1 Overview Ultra160 SCSI on the Adaptec SCSI Car d 39160 The Adaptec SCSI Ca rd 39160 ena bles you to connect up to 3 0 SCSI devices—such as very larg e arrays of high-perf ormance HDDs , external s.
2 Adaptec SCSI C ar d 39160 User’ s Referen ce imum speed on Channel B while at the same time using non-L VD SCSI devices on Chann el A. Although the Adaptec SCSI Ca rd 39 160 is a 64-bit PCI card, it also works in a 32-bit PC I slot. When in sta lled in a 32-bit PCI slot, the card automatically runs in the sl ower 32-bi t mo de.
3 Overview SCSI IDs Each device attached to the Adaptec SCS I Car d 39160 , as well as the Adaptec SCSI Card 39160 itsel f, must be assigned a un ique SCSI ID number fr om 0 to 15 for each of the two SCSI buses.
4 Adaptec SCSI C ar d 39160 User’ s Referen ce T erminating the SCSI Bus T o ensure relia ble communication on the SCSI bus, the ends of the SCSI bus must be pr operly terminated. This is accomplished when the device at the end of each cable, or the en d of the cable itself, has a terminator installed (or enabled) .

7 T r ouble shooti ng 4 Double-click the SCSI Controller icon. The softwar e driver for the Adaptec SCSI Car d 39160 is listed as 291 60(N), 3916 0, AHA-3960D, AIC- 789 2/7 899 Ultra1 60 PCI SCS I Control ler . ■ If the driver is listed, the Adaptec SCSI Card 39160 driver is loading properly .

Using Ultra160 Hard Disk Drives ■ W e r ecommend that you connect your L VD (Ultra160 and Ultra2) SCSI devices to SCSI Channel B and your non-L VD SCSI devices (if any) to SCSI Channel A.
