1 Intr oduct ion The Adaptec SCSI Ca rd 29320A enables you to connect up to 15 Low V oltage Differ ential (L VD) and/or 15 Single-Ended (SE) S CSI devices—such as very large arrays of high-performan.
2 Instal li ng the Adaptec SCSI Car d 29320A 1 Discharge any static electricit y build-up before handling yo ur SCSI car d by touching a grounded metal object (like the exposed metal parts on the back of your co mputer). Wa rn i n g : T urn OFF power to the computer and disconnect the power cord.
3 Computer s may ha ve verti cal or ho rizo nta l expa nsion slo ts. Refer to you r computer man ual to locate th e PCI/PCI-X slots. If your computer is a tow er model, la y it on its side to allo w for easier installa tion of the Adaptec SCSI Car d 29320A .
4 Followin g are some guidelines for setting SCS I IDs an d termination on you r de vices . Chec k the S CSI IDs The Adaptec SCSI Ca rd 293 20A and each device you connect to it must have a unique SCSI ID number ran ging from 0 to 15 on each channel. No two devices on the same SCSI channel can h ave the same SCSI ID.
5 Connecting Internal Ultra 320/160 and U ltra2 D evices A special 68-pin internal L VD cable is needed to connect internal U l t r a 3 2 0 / 1 6 0 o r U l t r a 2 S C S I d e v i c e s .
6 2 Plug the nonterminated end of the cable(s) to the internal L VD connector . 3 Plug the internal Ultra 320 /160 and Ultra2 SCSI devices to the other cable connectors, starting with the connector at the terminated end of the cable.
7 Connecting Wide SCSI Devices Connect internal W ide SCSI devices to the 68-pin internal SE W ide SCSI connector . T o do this, use a 68-pin W ide SCSI cable like the one shown in Step 1 below . Follow these steps to connect the devices: 1 Locate a 68-pin internal W ide SCSI cable.
8 2 Plug one end of the cable to th e 50-pin internal SE Na rrow SCSI connector on the Adaptec SCS I Card 29 320A. 3 Plug the other end of the cable to a term inated Ultra/Fast Narrow SCSI device. 4 If you have other Ultra/Fas t Narrow SCSI de vices, attach them to the connectors between the two ends of the cable.
9 2 Connect the other end of the cable to a SCSI connector on the back of an external device. If you ar e installing only one external device, terminate the device and skip to Step 4. 3 Connect the other external SCSI devices by linking each device to the previous on e, as shown below .
10 More In fo rmatio n About T ermination The last SCSI device on the end of each SCSI bus cable must be termin ated, and t erminati on must be disabled fo r all oth er d e vic es in the middle of the cables.
11 Preloaded Ada p te c Drivers If the Ad aptec SCSI Car d 29320 A was in cluded as part of a computer system you purchased, the system alr eady has the appropri ate A dap tec dr iv er p rei nstall ed by the c ompu ter manufacturer . No further action is necessary to install the driver .
