Position the center ran ge of the battery and carefully level that unit.

Contin ue to press the knob do wn for about 30 seconds. If th e pilot does not stay ignite d when the knob i s released, repeat t he lighting procedure and keep the knob do wn longer.

These darkened areas are ca used by thickening of the protective surface of the stainless steel and are not harmful.

It must be large an d sharp enough to cause the thermopile to glow a dull red, or sufficien t to hold the safety valve open.
