Remove all shipping t ape from the top and bottom of the scanne r . 2. Open the ADF cover and carefully remove any foam particles that may have gotten inside the Automatic Document Fee der .

S tart Microsof t Windows and make sure no other applications are running. 2. Insert the installation disc in to your com puter ’s DVD-ROM drive.

Selec t the option that looks best to you and click Next . The Color S pace setting set s the default gamma value for the scanner so scanned items look good on yo ur monitor .

Plug the power cord into th e power supply and then into a wall outlet. 3. Now proceed to the next section, “S tep 4: Connect the USB Cable and T urn on the Power .

Y ou use the options on this tab to select where to save your scanned items for storage when scanning with that particul ar Scan Configuration.

DocuMate 515 Scanner User’s Gui de 39 Scanning Selecting Page Format Options The format o ption you select determi nes the file format of the scanned document. Appropri ate format options an d file types are ava ilable for the type of Destination Applicat ion selected for the button.

Y ou may want to select PDF as the format wh en scanning text pages that do n ot require OCR processing or other pr ocessing. The PDF format is also used to pu t multi-page docum ents on web sites as pdf-readable files.

Choose the file type that you want for the text for mat. Y our selection of a file type pertains only to th e button currently selected on the One T ouch Properties window .
Scanning 42 DocuMate 515 Scanner User’s Guide Normal PDF —The nPDF file format used by Adobe Acrobat and OmniPage Pro. This format also co nvert s scanned text into PDF with text search and OCR capabilities, plus you can edit the text in an nPDF image if you have a PDF editing program .

DocuMate 515 Scanner User’s Gui de 49 Scanning Scanning with Optical Ch aracter Recognition (OCR) Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts text and numbe rs on a scanned pa ge into editable text and numbers. Y ou can then work with the text and numbers to edit, spellcheck, change font or type size, sort, calculate, and so forth.
Scanning 50 DocuMate 515 Scanner User’s Guide Scanning with sPDF or nPDF and Searching for T ext Searchable PDF (sPDF) an d Normal PDF (nPDF) are special forms of an Adobe® PDF® file. sPDF creates a PDF image with a searchabl e text layer . nPDF creates a PDF file that can be edited in a PDF ed iting program.

The process is idea l for archiving documents without having to man ually save or process them in any other way .

Fo r example, a note written with a light pe ncil may need to be scanned darker to improve legibility .

Maintenance 78 DocuMate 515 Scanner User’s Guide Replacing the ADF Pad Assembly The ADF p ad may wear out and is designed to be a user-replaceable part. Problems with docum ents feeding into the ADF is an indication that the pad is wearing out. Y ou received a replacement pad in the original scann er box, and you can also order a new one.
