4 V ISIONEER S TROBE XP 200 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE Installing Installation is a quick, thr ee-step process: ■ Install the software ■ Connect and calibrate the scanner ■ P rint guides and install ot her software from the CD S TEP 1: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE T o install the softwar e: 1.
S TEP 1: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE 5 3. On the installation menu, select Install ScanS oft P aperP ort and Scanner Driv er . 4. Read the ScanS oft license agreement. If y ou accept the terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement , and then cl ick Nex t .

When you se e the Connect Scanne r window , do NO T click F inish. Leave the window open and proceed to the next section, “S tep 2: Connect and Calibr ate the Scanner ”.
S TEP 2: C ONNECT AND C ALIBRATE THE S CANNER 7 The USB symbol identifies the lo cation of the USB port on your computer . If the plug does not attach easily , make sure that you are plugging it in correctly . Do not force the plug into the connection.
8 V ISIONEER S TROBE XP 200 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 2. Insert the calibration paper into the page feed, face up. The scanner grabs the paper and feeds it through the scanner . When calibration is finished, P aperP ort completes its installation.
S TEP 2: C ONNECT AND C ALIBRATE THE S CANNER 9 T o open a dialog box to view and edit scanner settings: 1. Right-click the Scanner icon, and then s elect Configur e from the shortcut menu. The OneT ouch Configuration di alog box opens, showing the current settings for the scanner ’ s AutoScan featur e.

S TEP 3: P RINT G UIDES AND I NSTALL OTHER S OFTWARE 11 Scanning This section describes how to scan with your S trobe XP 200 scanner . There ar e two methods available for scanning documents, you can use the scanner ’ s AutoScan feature or scan fr om the P aperP ort software.

C ONFIGURING THE A UTO S CAN F EATURE 17 Select Configuration —This is the list of available A utoScan configurations. The configuration s ettings include: color , black and white, or grayscale, r esolution in dots per inch (dpi), page size, contrast, and brightness.

C ONFIGURING THE A UTO S CAN F EATURE 19 C REATING A N EW A UTO S CAN C ONFIGURATION Y ou cannot change settings of the pr es et (default) configurations. T o use AutoScan with s ettings other than those offered by the pr eset configurations, you must create a new configuration.
20 V ISIONEER S TROBE XP 200 S CANNER I NSTALLATION G UIDE 4. Select scan se ttings for the new configuration. M ode —Select Black/White to scan in bl ack and wh ite. F or example, letters and memos are usua lly scanned in black and white. Select G rayscale to scan items such as documents containing drawings or black and white phot ographs.
C ONFIGURING THE A UTO S CAN F EATURE 21 DeScreen —S elect this option when scanning a picture from a newspaper or magazine article, or other items that contain images with patterns or dots. These patt erns and dots sometimes cause a wavy appearance for which the De screen option can compensate.

F rom the Scanner dr op-down list, select Visioneer Scan M anager . 4. In the “Scan what?” section, choose to scan a Document or Photograph .
S CANNING FROM THE P APER P ORT S OFTWARE 27 7. On the left side of the Visioneer Scan Manager , select a profile from the Scan Setup panel. F or e xample, select Color Configurations and then select C ustom to scan with the pre set Custom scan settings.

T h e changes appear in the Scan Setup pane on the left. Aut o T ri m —This option automa tically eliminates areas outsid e the edges of a document.

Click Settin gs to view , and optionally change, the format for the scanned item ’ s file name and the file type.

T o scan with the Custom Settings option see the ne xt section, “F ine T uning Y our Scans ”. 8. Align the document between the alignment arrows and insert it, face up, into the paper feed.

Select the options for scanning. Brightness an d Contrast —Drag the sliders t o the right or left to adjust the brightness and contrast of the s canned image.
