F EATURES 3 E-Mail ing: When connected to an ethernet network and an SMTP server , the scanner allows you to transmit document(s) to your e-mail as an attachment.

M INIMUM C ONFIGURATION R EQUIREMENTS 13 Installing Y our Machine This chapter is specifically targeted to the persons who are responsible for the administration of the scanner . It is recommended that the administrator read this chapter before installing the machine.
14 V ISIONEER N ETSCAN 4000 U SER ’ S G UIDE U NLOCKING THE S CAN U NIT The scan unit is locked during transport to protect the scanning mechanism from being damaged. Be sure to unlock the scan unit before using the machine. 1. Open the document cover .

C ONNECTING THE C ABLES 19 Configuring the Scanner The following settings or destinations must be defined by the system administrator before the scanner is used to distribute the scanned document on the network.

T ouch on an IP Addr ess/Subnet Mask/G ateway IP/DNS Ser ver field to bring up the soft keyboard and then enter the relevant value for the field you selected.

The CD will automatically start and launch th e main screen. 2. Choose N etwork M anagement T ool and follow the on-scr een instruction to complete the installation.

The defaul t settings are what the scanner will be reset to wh en the system auto reset time is o ver , or when the scanner is turned off and on again.
S UMMARY OF THE M ENU O PTIONS 37 Color Color documents to be sent via E-mail from the scanner . Options : 1. File F ormat: *PDF , JPEG, TIFF , MTIFF (M ulti-page TIFF) No t e : Choose MTIFF or PDF when you need to scan multi- page documents and convert it to a single image file.
38 V ISIONEER N ETSCAN 4000 U SER ’ S G UIDE TIFF/MTIFF TIFF (T he T agged-Image F ile Format) is a flexible bitmap image format supported by virtually all paint, image-editing, and page- layout applications. Also, virtually all desktop scanners can produce TIFF images.
S UMMARY OF THE M ENU O PTIONS 39 Po r t # Enter the port number for the server where you want to store your scanned document. Default value: *ftp:21, http:80, CIFS:139, https:443 If the default value is different from the real case, input the corr ect port number in this field.
40 V ISIONEER N ETSCAN 4000 U SER ’ S G UIDE Imag e De nsi ty Adjust the image density in seven steps using the cont rol panel. And you can specify the default value of image density in the range of 1 to 7 using W eb P age. Incr easing the value makes your scanned image darker and decreasing your scanned image lighter .
S UMMARY OF THE M ENU O PTIONS 41 Explanation of file for mat : PDF PDF (P ortable Document F ormat) is a very popular file format used by Adobe. Y ou can view PDF files using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Rea de r .

Imag e De nsi ty The image density can be adjusted within a range of 7 levels using the control panel or from the scanner's W eb P age.
S UMMARY OF THE M ENU O PTIONS 43 Sta t i o n Nu m b e r Enter the telephone nu mber of the scanner . The S tation N umber is the phone number of the line connected to the built-in modem and the S tation N umber should be a va lue not more than 20 characters.

This report lists the time and date of transmiss ion and whether the transmission was successful (OK). If you select Y e s, a report will be printed after each transmission.

S UMMARY OF THE M ENU O PTIONS 47 Energy S aving (T imer) If Ener gy Saving has be en enabled, choose ho w long the machine will be idle before it automatica lly enters the energy saving mode after the last action. The factor y default setting is 15 minutes.

C REATING A F OLDER T EMPLATE 51 The settings for IIS anonym ous access is as below: 1. S tart “Internet service manager” in the “Contr ol P anel”, select “Default W eb site ” and right click C:Inetpub wwwrootXcabinet, and select “P roperties ”.
52 V ISIONEER N ETSCAN 4000 U SER ’ S G UIDE 2. In the Xcabinet dialog box, select the “Dir ector y security ” tab , and click “Edit” for “ Anonymous A ccess and Authentication Control ”. Please make sure “ Anonymous Access ” is selected in the “ A uthentication M ethods ” dialog box.

54 V ISIONEER N ETSCAN 4000 U SER ’ S G UIDE The settings for the directory is as below: If the file management system in your server is NTFS, in order to allow IIS to use an anonymous account to acce ss the files in the directory of C:Inetpubwwwr ootXcabinet, you have to make sur e the anonymous account has sufficient write privileges.
C REATING A F OLDER T EMPLATE 55 HTTPS—S ETTING THE S ERVER TO S TORE Y OUR I MAGE HTTPS is a secure way of using HTTP . HT TP provides almost no security features. I t contains only basic authentication mechanisms, and suppor ts little privacy . HT TPS solves this prob lem by adding SSL, a secure transport layer over insecure TCP .
