6 A BO U T Y OU R N E W U BC 355X L T S C A N NE R The UBC355XL T comes with 8 Ser vice banks for monit or ing police, railroad , re, ambulanc e, air , marine, UHF CB and CB fr equencies. In addition, the UBC355XL T has 8 separate band searches. Y ou can also save up to 300 frequencies that are scanned along with the preset frequencies .

27 U SI N G Y OU R U B C355X L T S C A N N ER SE T UP Adjusting Squelch T o Adjust Squelch - T urn 1. SQ completely counter clockwise. Y ou should hear open squelch noise. T urn 2. SQ clockwise slowly until the sound disappears. This is the threshold point at which the incoming signal is just slightly stronger than the noise will open the squelch.
28 OPERA TING MODES The UBC355XL T operates in two modes - Scan and Search: SCAN Scanning allows you to scan thr ough channels in various ser vice banks. Pr ess a ser vice bank key ( P olice/Rail, Fire/A mbl, Air/Marine, UCB/ CB or Privat e ) to nd an active frequency within that bank.
29 SEARCH Search lets you search thr ough pre -grouped bands of frequencies. Pr ess Band key to select 1 of 8 separate frequency bands to search. Pr ess the Search key to begin searching . T he scanner displays frequencies as it searches and st ops on active frequencies until that transmission ends.
30 NO TE: The Police and Railroad banks shar e 100 PRIV A TE channels. These user-progr ammed channels are scanned after pre -programmed channels. Pr essing Fir e/Ambl more than once will cycle through the banks in this order: F ire/Ambulance 1. F ire 2.
31 Pr essing UCB/CB more than once will cycle through the banks in this order: UHF CB/ AM CB 1. UHF CB 2. AM CB 3. None 4. 34 Searching Band Tips If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Begin searching Pr ess the Band key . T he screen displays the last known searched band and then begins searching f or an active frequency in that band.
35 SCREENS This section shows typical screen displays: SCANNING BANKS This screen show s UBC355XL T is ac tively scanning a displayed bank. “ SCAN “ scrolls from right to left across the screen, and the scanned bank will ash. This screen show s that the scanner has been put on HOLD to monitor frequency 487.
36 SEARCHING BANDS When Band is pressed, this screen displays the band range to be searched . Press Band again (or Up / Down within 3 seconds) to see other band ranges. This SEARCH screen show s that frequency 127.81250 has been found through an upward sear ch.
37 Privat e Bank • Pr ogram F requencies into Pr ogrammable Banks. • Pr ogram Lock • L OCK OUT CHANNELS / FREQUENCIES Sometimes the scanner may stop on a particular channel or frequency because of noise or other unwanted transmissions .
38 Permanent L ock Out Pr essing L/O twice permanently locks out the current frequency or channel. The scanner displays “L/O” for that frequency or channel and continues scanning. “L/O ” frequencies/channels can be manually restor ed; the procedure is pr ovides in this sec tion.

41 If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Restoring a Single Locked-Out Channel or F requency (Example: Channel 12 of the Privat e bank is locked out.) Pr ess the appropriate bank key 1. ( Privat e , Police/Rail , Fir e/Ambl , Air/Marine and UCB/CB ) to start scanning the bank that has the channel or frequency you want to unlock.
42 If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Restoring a Single Locked-Out Channel (Con t.) “L/O” disappears to indicate that 4. Channel 12 is now unlocked and restor ed for scanning . Note: F or the fac tory preprogrammed channels , the earliest channel will be unlocked when y ou lock out more than 100 channels.
43 If Y ou W ant to Do This - Here ’ s Ho w - Restoring All Permanently L ocked Out Channels/ F requencies (C ont.) Pr ess and hold 3. L/O for more than 2.5 seconds until you hear two beeps. All locked out channels/ 4. frequencies in that bank are now unlocked and restor ed for scanning.
44 Close Call O 3. Pr essing and holding the key activates Close Call Only mode. Close Call Priority Repeatedly press until the Close Call Priority icon displays. The scanner checks every 2 second for a nearby transmission. Y ou may hear a slight break in audio during this time .

50 Programming Frequencies and Channels Up to 100 frequencies (1 fr equency per channel) can be programmed int o each of the following banks (300 frequencies combined): Polic e/R ailroad • F ire/.
51 Progr amming a Channel The follo wing steps detail how to pr ogram a frequency into a channel for a specic bank when the frequency was found while scanning or searching . In this example, the frequency was found while scanning the P olice bank. This SCAN screen show s that frequency 75.
52 Pr ess the key for the bank you want to pr ogram. In this example, P olice/Rail was pressed. The screen cycles between two displays . The rst screen shows tha t channel 6 is the lowest a vailable channel on the Polic e bank (press Up or Down t o select a dierent channel) and the second screen shows that fr equency 75.
53 Pr ess Prog . The scanner programs the fr equenc y into the indicated channel and then goes into SCAN HOLD mode. Pr ess Hold to release the Hold and continue scanning the rest of the prog rammed channels, starting with the channel you just programmed .
54 F requency changes to 000.0000 and CH continues ashing. Pr ess the bank containing the channel you wish to clear . The screen displays the rst programmable channel for that bank. If that channel displays 000.0000, press Up or Down until the channel/frequency you wish to clear display s.
