Understanding Scanning U nde rstand in g Sc an ni ng This sec ti o n provides you with background on how scann ing works. Y ou d on’t real ly need to know all of this to use your scann er , but some ba ckground kno wledge will help you get t he m ost from your BR33 0T .
find s an ac tive frequency , then stops on that fr e quency and remains on t hat chann el as lon g a s the transm ission continues. Wh en the transmission ends , the scanning cycle resume s until the scan ner receives anot her transm ission.
Understanding Scanning units wh ich transm it the c o rrect tone along w ith their signal can “talk” to the repeater . C TCSS an d DCS are also u sed in area s that rec eive interference where there a r e several stations w it h outp ut f req uencies close to each oth er .
Conv enti onal Scan ning Conventional scann i n g is a relatively si m ple concept. Each group of users in a conventional syste m is assign ed a singl e freq uency (f or simple x syst ems) or two f requen cie s ( for r epeater systems). Any time one of them t ransmits, their t ransmission al ways goe s out on t he s ame frequenc y .
Understanding Scanning Simplex Operation Simplex systems us e a sing le frequency for both transmit and receive. Mos t radi os using this type of operation are limited to line-of-sight operation. This type of radio is f requently used at construction job sites, and with inexpensive consum er radi os such as GMRS/F RS radios.
What is T runk T rack ing? Y our B R330T is desi gned to t rack the f ollowing type s of trunking syst ems. • Mot orola T ype I, T ype II, T ype IIi hybrid, SMAR TNET , and PRIV ACYPLUS anal og trunk ing systems, wh i ch are extensi vely used in 800 MHz communi cation sys tems.
Understanding Scanning full, so new users were not a ble to t ake adv antage of the tec hnology as quickly as they wante d. T runk ing solved t h is frequency shortage by allowing multiple groups to use the same set of frequencies in a very ef ficien t w ay .
T y pes o f T run king S yste ms T run king systems divide a fe w fr equencies among many different users, but the way that each system does this is slightly di f ferent . This s ection des cribes some of t he techn ical data behind Mot orola, EDAC S, and L TR t runked radio systems.
Understanding Scanning subfleet talk groups; inst ead they use a 5-digi t ID f or each talk group. T y pe IIi Hybrid — these systems support a mix of both T ype I and T ype II user s . L i ke T ype I systems, you must know the system’s fleet map to ensure proper tra cking.
01-062. 01 id entifies the agency as t he police departm ent, 06 id entifi e s the f leet as the West district, and 2 ident if i es the subfleet as the di s patch channel. W hile these assignm ents are som ewhat a rbitrary and vary from system t o system, there are many resources on the web for finding the assignments for most system s.
Understanding Scanning the L T R data matches a talk group ID that you hav e stored in the ta lk group ID list a nd have not locked out. L TR systems are frequently pr ogramm ed so that each radio has a unique user ID. I-C all (Motor ola/EDAC S) I-calls are di r e ct unit-to-unit tra nsmissions that a re not heard by othe r system users.
