Remove cardboard and tape 1 Pull th e r elease marked PAN EL R ELEA SE toward y ou and op en the operation panel. 2 Remove the packing paper from the paper compar tment. 3 Un w rap the ro ll of fax paper and place it in the compartment. • • Importan t: The roll must be placed so that the leading edge of the pap er unrolls as sh own.
4 Insert the leading edge o f the paper into the paper inlet. Contin ue to push the paper through the in let u ntil it co mes out of the op ening in the fr ont of the fax.
6 A short length of the fax paper will feed out and be cut off. (If this does n’t happen, repeat th e loading pr ocedur e.) No te: The f ax has a built-in anti-cur l mechanism that will help to red uce paper curling pro blems.
En tering Your Name and F ax Number Be fore you can begin using y our fax, you ne e d to ent e r y our name a n d th e te lep ho n e n um ber of your f ax. You also n eed to set the dat e a n d tim e. Once you ent er this in fo rma ti on , it wi ll autom a tica lly ap pear at the t op of each fax page you s end.
3 Press the S TART/MEMORY key. ST ART/MEMORY The d isplay will sho w: ENTER FAX # 4 Enter your fax number by press ing the nu mber keys . Up to 20 digits can be entered. • • To insert a space between digits, pres s the # key. To insert a " +", press the key.
6 Enter your name by pr essing the number keys as shown in the chart belo w. Up to 24 char acters can be enter ed. • • To enter tw o letters in succes sion th at require the s ame key, press th e SPE AKER key after entering the firs t letter to ad vance the curs or.

SPEAKER DO WN UP 2 Press the UP or DOWN key. or 3 When the display sho ws the desired volume level, press the SPEA KER key to turn off the sp eaker.

Chapter 2 Using the Answerin g Machine The FO-475’s bui lt-i n answeri ng machine allows you to receive both voic e messag es and fax tra nsm issi ons whi le you are out . When the re cept ion mod e is set to ANS., the answe ri ng mac hin e will autom atic ally a nswe r incom in g calls and pl ay your ou tgoing me ssage .
3 Press the S TART/MEMORY key. 4 Press a number key to select the outg oing message you wan t to r ecord: • • 0 : Genera l outgoin g messag e • • 1 : Box 1 outgoing message • • 2 : Box 2 o.

1 Press the PLA Y/S KIP key. • • If you only wan t to listen to new messages (mess ages no t previou sly listened to) , continue to hold the PLAY/S KIP key dow n for at least two second s. 2 If you want to listen to the messages in a personal box , enter the number of that box by p ress ing the app ropr iate n umber key.
Erasi n g recei v ed messa g es I t is imp ort ant to erase recei ve d messag es afte r you list en to the m to ensure tha t the memory does no t becom e full. Thi s is done as follows: • • Erasing gen eral mess ages : To erase all messages in the Gener al Box, pres s and hold dow n the DE LETE key for at least 2 secon ds.

3 Press the START/MEMORY key. 4 Enter a transfer number (max. of 32 dig its including pauses ) by pr essing the number keys. 5 Press the START/MEMORY key and then the STOP key.

Re mote O peratio ns You can call the FO-475 from any tone dial teleph one a nd play back your messag es using the r emo te com mand s. You can also use these comm ands to change the recep ti on m ode and ot he r set ti ngs.

5 When y ou have fin ished listening to your messages , y ou can do any o f the follow ing: • • Erase all mes sages: To eras e all of the messages in th e box, press " 3 ", " 3 ", and " # ". • • Repea t play back : To listen to your messages ag ain, p ress " 7 " and " # ".
