29 3. Cr eating 3D Data This chapter describes how to cr eate 3D data using the machine and the included Dr . PICZA3 pr ogram..
30 3. Creating 3D Data 3-1 T ask Flo w T his machine can scan three-dimensional shapes using the included Dr . PICZA3 program. T o make 3D data obtained by scanning a vailable for use b y other programs, y ou need to convert and sa ve the data using Dr .
31 3. Creating 3D Data 3-2 Mounting the Scan Object First, y ou prepare the object to be scanned. After making sure the object is one that can be scanned, y ou mount the object on the machine. Pr eparing the Scan Object T his machine is not able to scan every possible kind of object.
3-2 Mounting the Scan Object 3. Creating 3D Data 32 Object Material An object that has a comparativ ely smooth surface is suitable for scanning. F abrics and objects that have a rough nap cannot be scanned. Some objects ma y be difficult to scan because of the type of material it is made of, or because of its color or other qualities .
33 3-2 Mounting the Scan Object 3. Creating 3D Data Mounting the Scan Object Choose the object to be scanned, then mount the scan object. CAUTION Secur ely fasten the object to be scanned to the table so that it does not slip or topple ove r . The table rotates during scanning.
34 3. Creating 3D Data 3-3 P erforming Scanning Once you ha ve mounted the object of the machine, y ou can now perform scanning. Before you start scanning, make sure the door is closed and turn on the mac hine. Basic Scanning T his is the scanning that you perform first after mounting the scan object.
35 3-3 P erforming Scanning 3. Creating 3D Data 5 While viewing the pr eview , make the f ollowing settings, then start scanning. Scanning pitch Using a fine setting can reproduce details more accurately , but the amount of memory required increases, and scanning takes longer time.
3-3 P erforming Scanning 3. Creating 3D Data 36 Scanning Pitch and Scanning Area T he methods for making the settings are different for plane scanning and rotary scanning. Requir ed Memor y [Required Memory] at the lower right of the [Settings for Scanning] dialog box is automatically updated w hen you change the scanning area or scanning pitc h.
37 3-3 P erforming Scanning 3. Creating 3D Data Checking the Scanning Results Y ou can examine the results of scanning while c hanging the view method and perspectiv e. The Scan List displa ys a list of scanning data. F or detailed information about this window , see the online help for Dr .
3. Creating 3D Data 38 3-4 Finishing the Data Y ou take the data from basic scanning and modify it to produce finished data that has the form you w ant. Selecting and Scanning a Specific Area After the basic scanning, you can select specific areas and performing additional scanning (rescanning).
39 3. Creating 3D Data 3-4 Finishing the Data Scanning Modes for Rescanning Y ou can choose the same scanning modes for rescanning and line scanning as y ou can for basic scanning.
3. Creating 3D Data 40 3-4 Finishing the Data Pr ocedure Y ou perform rescanning using the following procedure. T he windows shown are those for plane rescanning. 1 First, scan the entire object. Choose a scanning mode according to the shape of the scan object.
41 3. Creating 3D Data 3-4 Finishing the Data 4 Click the [ ] button. T he mode for specifying the rescanning area is can- celed. 5 Drag to verify the ar ea to rescan. T he specified rescanning area is display ed as a three- dimensional form. 6 Click the [ ] button.
3. Creating 3D Data 42 3-4 Finishing the Data Cr eating New P olyg ons Y ou can create new polygons using all the scanning points, including the data produced by rescanning.
43 3. Creating 3D Data 3-5 Sa ving and Expor ting Data Y ou can take data obtained by scanning and creating polygon meshes and sa ve it in a file format compatible with Dr . PICZA3. Y ou can also convert (export) data and sa ve it in a file format allowing import into other programs.
3. Creating 3D Data 44 3-5 Sa ving and Expor ting Data Pr ocedure 1 At the Scan List, select just the data you want to export and display the windo w . 2 Click the [ ] button. Click the file format you want to use for exporting. 3 Depending on the file format y ou clicked, a dialog box ma y appear .
45 4. Editing Scanning Results - Using 3D Editor This chapter describes basic operation methods f or "3D Editor ," the 3D-data editing program included with the machine.
46 4. Editing Scanning Results 4-1 What Y ou Can Do Using 3D Editor 3D Editor lets you do things like the follo wing. Enlarge and r educe Deforming operations suc h as stretching in one direction are also possible. Mov e and rotate Specifying numerical v alues for the movement distance and angle of rotation is also possible.
47 4. Editing Scanning Results Impor ting and Expor ting Clicking the [Import] button lets y ou import files in Dr . PICZA project format, DXF format, and so on. Clicking the [Export] button lets y ou save data in a wide v ari- ety of file formats that are useful for creating 3D C AD data and 3D computer graphics.
48 4. Editing Scanning Results 4-3 Basic Operations f or Objects T his section describes the windows in 3D Editor and how to perform simple editing using the progr am. Ho w to View the 3D Editor Windo w T he 3D Editor window is composed of panels that display the object from four different perspecti ves at the same time.
49 4. Editing Scanning Results 4-3 Basic Operations for Objects Let's T r y Editing Data with 3D Editor Let's try some simple editing. We'll scan an apple with the mac hine, then try cutting and moving it. T he explanations in this section begin at the point where y ou ha ve scanned an apple using Dr .
50 4. Editing Scanning Results 4-3 Basic Operations for Objects 3 Using the [Front] windo w , let's tr y shifting the cut surface to the left, then carr y out cutting. 4 Let's tr y separating the two objects. When you're done with the oper ation, right-click to quit the [Mo ve Object] mode.
51 4. Editing Scanning Results 4-3 Basic Operations for Objects 5 Now tr y orienting the cut surface of the apple on the right to face the fr ont. Y ou can only do this when you'r e in the [T op] window . When you're done with the oper ation, right-click to quit the [Mo ve Object] mode.
