12 Connecting an Optional Antenna The scanne r’s antenna j ack makes it easy t o use the scanne r wi th a var iety of ante nnas. Ins tea d of the sup- pli ed a ntenna, you can attach a different one, such as an exter nal m obil e ant enna or ou t do or base st ation ant en- na.
13 CONNECTING AN EARPH ONE/ HEADPHONES For pri vate l ist ening, you can p lug an ea r phone or head - phones wi t h a 1 / 8 - inch mini -p lug (such as Cat. No. 33- 175 or 20- 210) into t he jack on t op of your scanner. This aut om ati call y disconn ects the int erna l spea ker .

15 UNDERST ANDING YOUR SCANNER Once you underst an d a few simple terms we use in this manua l and fam iliarize you rself w ith your sca nner’s features , you c an put th e scanner to work for you. Yo u simply fi nd the com muni cati ons you wan t to recei ve, then set the sca nner to scan t hem .

25 SCANNING THE ST ORED CHANNELS To begin sca nning channel s, press SCAN . The scanne r scans t hrough al l non -locked c hanne ls i n the act ivat ed banks. W hen t he scanne r finds a t ran smis sion, it st ops on it. When the tr ansmi ssi on ends, the scanne r res umes scann ing.

27 TURNING CHANNEL-STORAGE BANKS ON AND OFF You can turn each channel-s torage bank o n an d off . When you turn of f a b ank, th e scan ner does not s can any of the 30 chan nels in t hat bank. While sc anning, pr ess the number key tha t co r r espo nds to the bank you want t o turn on or off.

32 TRUNK TRACKING Your sc anner is des igned t o track transmissi ons on Mo- tor ola Type I, Type I I, an d hybr id anal og tr unking sys- tems, which are ex tensi vely us ed in 800 MHz com municati ons . Thi s is particul arly important in trunked syst ems becaus e sign als yo u cannot liste n to ( such as water met ers, d oor al arms, t ra ffic signal s, an d encrypted sign als ) are as signed I Ds just l ike ot her users.
