13 UNDERSTANDING Y OUR SC ANNER Once you understand a few simple terms we use in this manu al and f amil iari ze yourself with your sc anner’s featu r es, you can pu t the scanner t o work for you . You simply find the com m unicat ions you want to receive, th en set the scanner to scan those freq uenc ies.
14 SCAN Starts scan ning through the stored channels. MANUAL S tops s canning and lets you manuall y enter a c hann el number. L/O/SEARCH SKIP Turns the selected channel ’s lockout function on and off, or skips a specified frequency during a limit or direct se a rch .
15 A LOOK A T THE DI SPLAY The display’s indicators show the scanner’ s current operating mode. MON App ears when you listen to a m o nitor memory. BANK A ppears with numbers (1 – 10) next to it to show which channel-storage banks are turned on for scanni ng.
16 DATA Appears while the data skip function is turned on. DELA Y Appears when y ou program a chan nel for a tw o-second delay before scanning or when you list en to a channel programme d with th e d elay feature. WX Appe ars when the scanner is in t he weathe r band mode.
17 UNDERSTANDIN G THE SCANNER ’ S MEMORY You can store up to 210 frequencies into your scanne r’s memory. This scanner has 20 0 chann el mem ories and 10 monitor memories.

20 SEARCHING FOR AND T EM PORARIL Y STORING ACTI VE FREQUENCIES You can searc h for freq uencies usin g a limit or direct search, th en tempo- rarily store fr equenc ies into monitor me mor ie s. Limit Sear ch A limit search lets you searc h for ac - tiv e transm issi ons withi n a specifi ed range of frequencies.
21 6. When the scanner finds an active freq uency , you can do one of the following: • T o store the displayed fre- quenc y into t he current moni- tor memory , quickl y press MON . • T o con tinue the s earch, pre s s D or — . • T o h old the frequency , pre ss LIMIT .

23 Notes: • I f you p rogram more than 20 skip frequenc ies, each new fre- quenc y replaces old o nes, start- ing from the f irst stored frequency . • Y ou can select the s kipped fre- quenc y when the scann er is in the hol d m ode. 24 3. Press MON , then ent er the mo ni- tor memory num ber that has the frequency you want to store. MON and the entered f re quency appear , a nd the chann el number blin ks. 4. Press ENTER . The scanner stores the freque ncy into the selected cha nnel.
25 If the scanner is scanning and stops at the d esired cha nnel, pres s M ANU- AL once. Repeatedly press MANUAL to step through the c hannels on e a t a time. LIST ENING TO T HE WEATHER BAND Your scanner is preprogrammed with the following weather frequencies.
26 SPEC IAL FE ATURES USING PRIORIT Y CHANNELS The priority feature lets you scan through channel s and still not miss important or interes ting cal ls on spe- ci f ic ch a nn e l s. Yo u c a n pr ogra m one stored channel in each bank as a pri- ority channel (up to 10 s tored chan- nels in t otal).
27 USING T HE 2-SECOND DELAY Many age ncies use a two-wa y radio system that m ight have a pause o f several seconds between a query and a reply. To av oid m issing a reply, you can program a 2-s econd delay into an y of your scanne r’s channels or frequenci es.
28 To unlock a c hanne l, manually select the chann el, then pres s L/O/SEARCH SKIP so LOCK OU T disa ppears. To unlock all channels, while the scanner is sc anning, sele ct the banks conta ining the locke d chan- nels you want to unlock, pre ss MAN- UAL , then hold do wn L/O/SEARCH SKIP until the scanner beeps twice.
29 T U RNING THE KEY T O NE ON OR O FF Your scanner beep s ea ch time you press a key. Follow t hese steps to turn o ff the key t one beep. 1. T urn off the scann er . 2. Hold down L/O/ SEARC H SKIP , then turn on the s canner . OFF bEEP appears. To tu rn on the beep , repeat these steps.
