3 Introdu ction EN Before usin g the unit Introduction Thank you for purchasing the OMRON i-Q132 Intellisense S potArm™ T ype Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor . The OMRON i-Q132 Intellisense is a fully automatic blood pressure monitor , operating on the oscillometric principle.

5 Important Safety Information EN • Do not inflate the ar m cuff over 299 mmHg. • If the cuff does not stop infla ting, or some other abnormality occurs, press the Emergency Deflation Switch immediately to prevent from internal bleeding or damage to peripheral nerves.

10 2. Prepar ation 2. Prep aration 2.1 Inst alling/Replacing the Batteries T o set the date and time, first insert the batteries, then attach the AC adapter . • Please insert the batteries even if you will be using the A C adapter . The batteries are required to store the date and time setting.
11 2. Pr eparat ion EN 3. Install or replace four “AA” size batteries so that the + (positive) and - (negative ) polarities match the polarities indicated in the battery comp artment. 4. Put the battery cover back in place. Slide the battery cover , until it clicks into place.
12 2. Prepar ation Battery Life & Replacement If the battery low symbol ( ) appea rs on the display , replace all four batteries at the same time. - When the battery low symbol ( ) start s to blink, you will still be able to use the unit for a short while.
13 2. Pr eparat ion EN 2.2 Connecting the AC Adapter Note: Use only the AC adapter designed for this unit. 1. Insert the plug of the AC adapter into the AC adapter jack on the back of the unit. 2. Insert the power plug of the AC adapter into a power outlet.
14 2. Prepar ation 2.3 Setting the Date and Time Y our blood pressure monitor automa tically stores up to 84 individual measurement values with the date and time for each user . T o make use of the memory and average value s functions: • Set the unit to the correct date and time before taking a measurement for the first time.

Press the weekly average buttons to ad just the year setting. • Press the Evening average button once to in crease the setting by one year . • Press the Morning average button once to decrease the setting by one year . • Hold the buttons down to increase (decrease) the digits rapidly .
16 2. Prepar ation 5. Press the MEMORY button to confirm the setting when the desired number appears on the display . The month is set and the day digits flash on the display . 6. Press the weekly average buttons to adjus t the day setting. • Press the Evening avera ge button once to increase the setting by one day .
17 2. Pr eparat ion EN 8. Set the hour and minutes in the same way as the date settings. Press the weekly average buttons to adjust the digits for the hour and minutes, then press the MEMORY button to confirm the setting. When the date and time settings have been set, the display changes to that shown to the above.

Prepar ation Adjusting the Date and T ime Setting Note: If you need to change the da te and time for some reason, or if the date and time has been reset after replacing the batteries, adjust the date and time between 10:00 and 18:59. This will avoid problems with morning and evening w eekly averages stored in t he memory .
19 3. Using the Unit EN Operating instructions 3. Using the Unit 3.1 How to Sit Correctly When T aking a Measurement Correct posture during m easurement is necessary to get accurate results. Notes: • Measurements should be taken in a quiet place and you should be in a relaxed, s eated position.
20 3. Using the Unit Note: Y ou can t ake a measurement on either your left or right arm. The blood pressure ca n dif fer between the right arm and the left arm an d therefore also the measured blood pressure values can be diff erent. Omron recommends to always use the same arm for measurement.
21 3. Using the Unit EN 3.2 Place Y our Arm Through the Arm Cuff Remove the cushion sheet before using the unit for the first time. T ake readings with your bare arm or light clothing. Note: Remove thick clothing from your upper arm. Do not take readings over thick clothes or rolled-up sleeves.
22 3. Using the Unit 2. Place your left arm through the arm cuf f. Notes: • Do not remove th e cuf f lining in the arm cuf f. • If the cuff lining becomes det ached, co nta ct your OMRON distributor or Customer Services as mentioned on the package.
23 3. Using the Unit EN 3.3 T aking a Reading T ry to t ake readings at the same time each day (within 1 hour after waking up is recommended). This will make the result s more useful. Note: If your systolic blood pressu re is known to be above 170 mmHg, re fer to Chapter 3.
24 3. Using the Unit The user altern ates with each press of the us er ID selection button, as shown below . Note: • If “G” is selected, the measurement results are not stored in the memory .
25 3. Using the Unit EN 5. Press the ST AR T/STOP button once to start measurement. Do not move your arm and remain still until the entire measurement process is completed. Note: The unit may automatically incr ease inflation if the arm cuf f inflation is insuf ficient.
26 3. Using the Unit T o cancel a measurement If you press the O/I or ST ART/ST OP button while the cuf f is inflating, measurement stop s and the arm cuf f deflates.
27 3. Using the Unit EN 6. Check the measurement results. The measurement result s are automatically stored in the memory . (Refer to Chapter 3.5.) Note: If “G” (Guest) was selected, the measurement result s are not stored in the memory . W arning: Self-diagnosis of measurement result s and se lf-treatment are dangerous.
28 3. Using the Unit If “E” or “EE” is displayed Measurement could not be completed successfully . (Refer to Chapter 4.1.) W ait 2-3 minutes before ta king another measurement. W aiting between measurements allows th e arteries to return to the condition prior to takin g the blood pressure mea surement.
29 3. Using the Unit EN Import ant: • If your systolic or diastolic pressure is outs ide the standard range, the heartbeat symbol will blink when the measurement result is displayed. Recent research suggest s that the following values can be used as a guide to high blood pressure for measurement s taken at home.
30 3. Using the Unit What is Irregular Heartbeat? An irregular heartbeat is a heartbeat rhythm that varies by more than 25 % from the average heartbeat rhythm detected while the unit is measuring the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Using the Unit EN 3.4 Instructions for S pecial Conditions If your systolic pressure is know n to be more than 170 mmHg or if you failed to measure blood pressure re peatedly , perfor m the following step s. 1. Place your arm throu gh the arm cuf f and press the O/I button to turn the power on .

Using the Unit 3.5 Using the Memory Function The unit is designed to store the blood pressure an d the pulse rate in the memory for two pe ople (user A and user B) every time a measurement is completed. The unit automatically stores up to 84 sets of measur ement values (blood pressure and pulse rate) for each user (A and B).
33 3. Using the Unit EN 3. Press the MEMORY button . The average value is shown and the average symbol ( ) appears above the memory symbol ( ) on the display . 4. Press the MEMORY button to display the most rec ent set of individual measurement values on the screen.
34 3. Using the Unit Morning and Evening W eekly A verages The unit calculates and displays we ekly averages for measurements taken in the morning ( ) and eve ning ( ) within 8 weeks for each user (A and B).
35 3. Using the Unit EN About the W eekly A verages Morning W eekly Average This is the average for measurement s t aken during th e morning (4:00- 9:59) between Sunday and Saturday . An average for each day is calculated for up to three measurements ta ken within 10 minutes of the first measurement of the morning.
36 3. Using the Unit T o Display Morning and Evening A verages 1. Press the O/I button to turn the power on. 2. Press the user ID selection button to select the user ID (A or B). 3. Press the morning average button or the evening average button . The average for the curren t week “THIS WEEK” appears on the display .
37 3. Using the Unit EN Notes on Display Combinations In addition to the mor ning average and ev ening average symbols, the unit may also display the morning hypertension symbol if the morning average for that week is above the home blood pressure guideline.
38 3. Using the Unit The morning hypertension symbol ( ) appears if the weekly average for morn ing measurement s is above 13 5/85. In this case the morn ing hypertension symbol ( ) is displayed when the evening average is displayed, re gardless of the values for the evening average.

40 4. Handling Errors and Pr oblems Error Display Cause Remedy Batteries have run down. Repla ce all four “AA” batteries with new ones. (Refer to C hapter 2.1) A malfunction has occurred. Contact your OMRON distributor or Customer Services as mentioned on the package.
41 4. Handling Errors and Prob lems EN 4.2 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Remedy The reading is extremely high (or low). Is your arm placed through the arm cuf f correctly? Refer to Chapter 3.2. T alking during the measurement. Keep quiet during measurement.
42 4. Handling Errors and Pr oblems The date and time flash, even though the date and time have been set, after the batteries are replaced. The emergency deflation switch was pressed. Set the date and time again. (Refer to Chapter 2.3.) Even if the power is turned off, the clock will also stop if you press the emergency deflation switch.
