Problem Cause Solution Print is smudges. Settings for thick pa- per have not been made when printing on thick paper in the bypass tray.

Other Printing Problems 59 4 There is considerable delay between the print start instruction and actual printing. Processing time de- pends on data vol- ume. High volume data, such as graph- ics-heavy documents, take longer to process. If the data-in lamp is blinking, data has been received by the printer.
Troubleshooting When Using the Printer Function 60 4 Page layout is not as expected. Print areas differ de- pending on machine used. Information that fits on a single page on one machine may not fit on a single page of another ma- chine. Adjust the [ Printable area: ] setting in the [ Printer Configuration.
Other Printing Problems 61 4 When using W indows 95 / 98 / Me / 2000 / XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows NT 4.0, combined prin ting or booklet printing does not come out as expected . The correct applica- tion or printer d river settings are not made.

When a Message is Displayed 71 5 Connection with the destination has failed. Check the status and connection. To check the current status, press [Scanned Files Status]. The correct Network set- tings are not made. • Check the network settings of the client computer.
Troubleshooting When Using the Scanner Function 72 5 Output buffer is full. Sending the data has been cancelled. Please try again later. Too many jobs are in standby state, and send- ing was cancelled. Retry sending after sending jobs in standby state completes.

Loading paper 81 6 Loading Paper into the La rge Capacity Tray (LCT) The following procedure explains loadin g paper into the large capacity tray (LCT). Important ❒ LCT (optional) uses Letter- sized paper (8 1 / 2 ” × 11” K ) exclusively. Only load 8 1 / 2 ” × 11” K pa per .

Changing the Paper Size 83 6 Changing the Paper Size This section ex plains how to change a paper size. Procedures for changing the paper size differ depend ing on the tray (tray 1 or other optional paper tray units). Make sure you are following the appropriate procedure before you begin.

Adding paper, Toner and Staples 92 6 Maintenance This section explains how to adjust the color registration and gradation by spec- ifying the set tings in [ Maintenance ] . Adjusting the Color Registration When the machine is moved, the Fusing Un it is replaced, or after printing re- peatedly for some time, regi stration shifting might occur.
Maintenance 93 6 C Press [ Color Registration ] . D Press [ OK ] . Auto color registration takes about fift y seconds. When it is completed, the display returns to the co lor registration me nu. E When you have made all the settings, press the { User Tools / Counter } key.
Adding paper, Toner and Staples 94 6 Auto Color Calibration If a certain color is strong or the color of the copy differs from the original, adjust the yellow, magenta, cyan and black ba lance. Note ❒ If “ D Add Toner” is shown on the display panel, the test pat tern cannot be printed.
Maintenance 95 6 C Press [ Auto Color Calibration ] . D Press [ Start ] . E Press [ Start Printing ] and a test pattern will be printed. F Place the test pattern on the exposure glass and press [ Start Scanning ] . The image will be corrected after “ Scanning.
Adding paper, Toner and Staples 96 6 Note ❒ When performing the auto color calibration from the copy function, press [ Start ] under Copier Function. When perf orming from the printer function, press [ Start ] under Printer Function. ❒ The test pattern will not be read if it is set in the ADF.
Maintenance 97 6 Returning to the Previous Setting “Previous Setting” means to return to the previous status before any changes. A Press [ Previous Setting ] .
