4 About Blood Pressure · What is blood pressure? Blood pressur e is the force exerted on the artery tube while blood flows through the arteries. The pr essure measur ed when the hear t contracts and sends blood out of the heart is called systolic pressur e (higher number).
5 Helpful T ips: · Do not measure your blood pr essure immediately after consuming a lar ge meal. T o obtain more accurate readings, wait one hour befor e measuring. · Do not smoke or drink alcohol before measuring your blood pr essure. · Y ou should not be physically tired or exhausted while taking a measur ement.
6 Introduction: Measurements taken with your new model 1157 ar e equivalent to those obtained by a trained observer using cuff/stethoscope auscultation method, within the limits prescribed by the American National Standar d, Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers.
7 Setting up your 1157: 1. Install 4 ‘AA’ batteries as illustrated. (Should the display scr een show a message to replace the batteries, please do so right away . Failure to r eplace batteries at once may result in leakage of battery fluid, and in turn cause damage to the unit.
8 Applying The Cuff: The comfortable upper arm cuf f may be applied to either the left or right arm. It will fi t arms ranging from 8” ~ 14” in cir cumference. Please consult the following chart to ensure corr ect application. Apply the cuff 2 - 3 cm (1 - 1.
9 T aking Measurements: 1. Press the Power button to turn on your 1157 2. Select your Memory zone by pressing the Page > button Memory Zone 1 Memory Zone 2 Memory Zone 3 Memory Zone 4 3. Press the Start/Stop Button to begin measurement. · The cuff will infl ate, your blood pressur e and pulse will be displayed, then the cuff will defl ate.
10 · Y our blood pressur e will be analyzed according to the World Health Or ganization’ s standards, and the light up indicator to the right of the display will display either a red, yellow , green or orange light for both your systolic and diastolic pressur es.
11 Setting the T ime: 1. Insert an unfolded paper clip into the ‘SET’ hole to enter Set mode. The small hole is located just below the receptacle for the AC adapter on the right side of the 1157. 2. The four digit year in the display should start blinking.
12 Mute Mode: · By pressing both the <Page and Page> buttons simultaneously , you may disable the 1157’ s beeper function. Press the two buttons simultaneously once, and the Mute icon should appear in the lower left of the display . Press them again, and the 1157 should beep, and the mute icon will disappear .
