E-6 T AKING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE Tips for Blood Pressur e Monitoring: ☞ Relax for about 5 minutes before measur ement. ☞ Do not smoke or ingest caf feine at least 30 minutes prior to measurement. ☞ Remove constricting clothing and place cuf f on bare arm.

Y our average blood pressur e reading will appear with the number of measurements stored in memory (i.e. A25 = total of 25 measurements stor ed in memory). As the cuff pr essurizes, measurement will begin and the Cuf f Inflation Meter will show on the display screen.
E-8 WHA T IS AN IRREGULAR HEAR TBEA T The UB-512 Blood Pressur e Monitor provides a blood pr essure and pulse rate measurement even when an irr egular heartbeat occurs. The Irregular Heartbeat symbol will appear in the display window in the event an Irregular Heartbeat has occured during measur ement.
E-9 The UB-512 pr ovides an average blood pressure r eading based on the total measurements stor ed in memor y . When taking a measurement, the average blood pr essure reading will appear and the number of measurements stor ed in memor y will flash several times before the cuf f begins to inflate.
E-1 0 ABOUT MEMOR Y The memory function on the UB-512 blood pressure monitor is designed for two or more people. For each ST AR T button, the monitor can store up to 30 r eadings in memory . T o keep track of previous measurements accurately , we recommend that you use the same ST AR T button each time you take a blood pressure r eading.
E-11 What Is Blood Pressure? Blood pressur e is the force exerted by blood against the walls of the arteries. Systolic pressur e occurs when the heart contracts; diastolic pressure occurs when the heart expands. Blood pressur e is measured in millimeters of mer cur y (mmHg).

T o get the most benefit out of your monitor , it is important to establish a “baseline measurement.” This helps build a foundation of measurements that you can use to compar e against future readings.
