Understanding th e different ap plications Use To Card Co py Scan and print both si des of a card on a single pa ge. For more i nformation, see “Setting up Card Copy” on page 21. Fax Scan a document, and then send it to a f ax number. For more inform ation, see “Faxing ” on page 104.
Use To Streamline work processes by letting you qui ckly find and pri nt frequently used online forms directly from the printer home screen. Note: The printer must have permission to access the network folder, FTP site, or Web site where the bookmark is stored.

Installing an Inte rnal Solutions Port The con trolle r boar d suppor ts one optio nal Lexm ark Inte rnal S oluti ons Por t (ISP ). Note: This task requires a flat ‑ head screwd river.
2 Ligh tly press the stop on the left side of the co ntrolle r board acc ess door , and then s lide the access do or to remo ve. 3 1 2 3 Unpack the ISP kit. Note: M ake sure to re move a nd discar d th e small cable att ached to the white conn ector .
4 Place the plastic bracket inside the ISP exterior cover until it clicks into p lac e. 5 Sli de and pu sh the ISP solu tion int o the p lasti c bracke t.
7 Tigh ten the two sc rews o n the e nd of t he ISP solutio n. 8 Atta ch the white pl ug of t he ISP so lutio n interf ace cable in to the white re ceptacl e on th e ISP.
9 Slightly close the ISP exterior cover up to 65 degrees , and then slide the cover to attach. 1 2 3 4 10 Run t he ISP cable th rough the con trolle r board shield.
11 Open th e controlle r board shie ld using the gre en handle. 2 1 12 Attach the blu e plug of the ISP s oluti on inter face cabl e into the blue r eceptac le on the co ntroll er boar d. Note: If you hav e installe d a prin ter hard disk, the n you ne ed to rem ove i t.
13 Close th e contro ller board shield. 14 Close the ISP exterior cover. Note: When the printer s oftware and a ny hardware o ptions are installed, it may be necessary t o manually ad d the option s in the printer driver t o make them availabl e for prin t jobs.

Installing hardware options Order of ins tallation CAUTION—PO TENTIAL IN JURY: Th e printe r weight is gre ater tha n 18 kg (40 lb) and requi res t wo or m ore trained p ersonnel to lift it safel y.
2 1 2 Unpack the tr ay, and t hen r emove all packi ng mate rial. 3 Pul l out the tray from t he base . 4 Remove any p acking material from in side th e tray. 5 Insert th e tra y into th e bas e. 6 Pla ce the tr ay near the pr inter. 7 Align th e printe r with the tray, a nd then slo wly lower t he printe r into pla ce.
8 Connect the p ower c ord to the pr inter , then to a p roperl y grounded electrical outlet, and th en turn on the print er. 1 2 Notes: • When th e printer softwa re and any hardwa re optio ns are in stalle d, you may nee d to man ually add t he options in the p rinter d river to ma ke them ava ilabl e for print jobs.
Setting up the printer software Installing the printer software Notes: • If you in stalled t he printe r soft ware on t he comput er before but ne ed to rein stall th e software , then uninstal l the curren t software firs t. • Close all open software p rograms before installin g the printer software.

Changing port setti ngs after installing a new ne twork Internal Solutions Port When a new Lexmar k Inter nal Sol ution s Port (I SP) is insta lled in the printe r, the p rinter conf iguration s on computer s that ac cess t he print er m ust be up dated since t he print er wi ll be as signed a new IP addres s.

Loading paper and specialty media The sele ction and h andlin g of paper and specialt y media ca n affect how reliably do cument s print. For mor e informati on, see “Avoid ing jams” on page 227 a nd “Sto ring pap er” on page 7 4.

Notes: • Load with the printable side facedown when using recycled or preprinted paper. • Load prepunched paper with the holes on the to p edge toward the front of the t ray. • Load le tterhea d facedown , with the top edge of the sheet t oward the front of th e tray.
Loading the multipurpose feeder Use the multipurpose feed er when printing on different paper sizes and types or specialty media, such as card stock, transpar encies, paper labe ls, and en velope s. You can a lso use i t for sin gle ‑ page prin t jo bs on lett erhe ad .
b Pull the extender gently so th at the multipurpose feeder is fu lly extended and open. 2 Squeeze the tab on the left width gu ide, and then move the gu ides for the paper you are loading. 1 2 3 Prepare the paper or specialty media for loading. • Flex sheets of pap er back and forth to loos en them, and then fan them.
• Hold transparencies by the edges. Flex th e stack of transparen cies back and forth to loosen them, and then fan them. Straighten the edges on a level surface. Note: Avoid tou ching the print able s ide of th e trans parencie s. Be careful not to s cratch them.
Note: When lo adi ng A6 ‑ size paper, make sure the m ultipurpose feeder extend er rests lightly against the edge of the pap er so that the last few sh eets of paper remain in place. • Load let terhea d faceu p with th e top edg e entering the pr inter first.
• Load envelopes with the flap on the left side facedown. Warn ing— Poten tial Dama ge: Ne ver use envelopes with stamps , clasps, snaps, windows, c oated lini ngs, or self ‑ stick adhe sive s. These e nvelope s may sev erely damage the prin ter.

Note: A combina tion of h igh humi dity ( over 60 %) and hig h printin g tempe rature may wrinkl e or seal e nvelopes .
• Do not use prepr inted car d stock manuf acture d with chem icals tha t may contamina te the printe r. Prepri nting intro duce s semi ‑ liq uid and volati le comp onen ts in to the pr inter . • Use grain short card stock whe n pos sible. Paper guidelines Select ing the c orrect paper or special ty media reduces printin g problem s.
For 60–90 ‑ g/m 2 (16–24 ‑ lb) bond paper, grain l ong pa per is rec ommen ded. Fiber content Most h igh ‑ qua lity xerogra phic pap er is made from 100% chemi cally tre ated pulpe d wood. This con tent provi des the paper with a high degree of stability resu lting in fewer paper feeding problems and better print quality.
