Paper and specialty media guide Paper guidelines When printing on specialty media, use th e prin ter control panel to set the correct Pape r Type. Paper characteristics The following paper characteristics affect print quality and reliability. Consider these ch aracteristics when evaluating new paper stock.
Fiber content Most high-quality xerographic paper is made from 100% chemicall y treate d pulped wood. This content provides the paper with a high degree of stability resulting in fewe r paper feeding problems and better print quality. Paper containing fibers such as cotton possesses characteristics that can negatively affect paper handling.
Using recycled paper As an environmentally conscious company, Lexmark supports the use of recycled office paper produced specific ally for use in laser (elec trophotographic) printe rs. In 1998, Lexmark presented to the US government a st udy demonstrating th at recycled paper produced by major mills in th e US fed as well as non-recycled paper.
• To prevent print quality proble ms, avoid ge tting fingerprints on the transparencies. • Before loading transparencies, fan the stack to prevent sheets fro m sticking together. • We recommend Lexmark part number 12A8240 for letter-size and Lexmar k part number 12A8241 for A4-size transparencies.
• Use only envelopes with a flap that covers the area wh ere the seams come together. For more information, see the following illustrations: 1 2 1 Envelope flap covering seams (supported) 2 Exposed seams (unsupported) Note: A combination of high humidity (over 60%) and the high printing temperature may wrinkle or seal envelop es.
• Use full label sheets. Partial sheets may cause labels to p eel off during printing, resulting in a jam. Partial sheets also contaminate the printer and the ca rtridge with adhe sive, and could void the printer and cartridge warranties. • Do not print within 1 mm (0.
