2-2 Handling Pap er General Guidelines The machine is designed to print on standard copier p aper (the type used in ordinary dry copier machines), but it can also accept a variety of other types of paper within the limit s specified below . Selection of the right paper is important.
Handling Paper 2-3 Minimum and Maximum Paper Sizes The minimum and maximum paper s izes are as follows. For non st andard paper such as transp arency , labels, vellum, cardstock, envelope, coated and thick, the MP (Multi-Purpose) tray must be used.
2-4 Handling Pap er Selecting the Right Paper This section describes the guidelines for selecting paper . Condition Avoid usin g paper that is bent at the edges, curled, dirty , torn, embossed, or contaminated with lint, clay , or p aper shreds.
Handling Paper 2-5 Smoothness The paper should have a smooth, unc oated surface. Paper with a rough or sandy surface can cause voids in the printed output. Paper that is too smooth can cause multiple feeding and fogging problems. (Fogging is a gray background effect.
2-6 Handling Pap er Moisture Content Moisture content is defined as the percent ratio of moisture to the dry mass of the paper . Moisture can affect the paper’s appearance, feed ability , curl, electrostatic properties, and toner fusing characteristics.
Handling Paper 2-7 Packaging : Paper should be packed in a sturdy carton to protect it from damage during transport. Quality p aper obtained from a reput able supplier is usually correctly packaged.
2-8 Handling Pap er T ransparency T ransparencies must be able to withstand the heat of fusing during the printing process. The recommended transparency product is 3M CG3700 (Letter, A4).
Handling Paper 2-9 Labels Labels must be fed from the MP tray . The basic rule for printing on adhesive labels is that the adhesive must never come into contact with any part of the machine. Adhesive p aper sticking to the drum or rollers will damage the machine.
2-10 Handling Pap er Postcards Fan the stack of postcards and align the edges before loading them in the MP tray . Make sure the postcards you are going to set are not curled. Feeding curled postcards may cause paper jams. Some postcards have rough edges on the back (those are created when the paper is cut).

Some types of paper have rough edges on the back (those are created when the paper is cut). In this case, put the paper on a flat place and rub the edges once or twice with, for example, a ruler to smooth them.

Handling Paper 2-13 Paper T ype The printer is capable of printing under the optimum setting for the type of paper being used. Setting the paper type for the p aper source from the printer ’ s operation panel will cause the printer to automatically select the p aper source and print in the mode best suited to that type of paper .
2-14 Handling Pap er Loading Paper The following explains the procedure for loading paper in the cassette and the MP tray . Loading Paper into the Cassette 1 Fan the media (paper/transparencies), t hen tap it on a level surface to avoid media jams or skewed printing.
Handling Paper 2-15 4 Pull the release lever of both side guides and slide to the desired paper size. 5 Pull the release lever and slide the paper stopper to the desired p aper size.
2-16 Handling Pap er 7 Insert the paper cassette into the slot in the printer . Push it straight in as far as it will go. There is a paper gauge on the right side of the front of the p aper cassette to indicate the remaining paper supply . When paper is exhausted, the pointer will go down to the level of (empty).
Handling Paper 2-17 4 Adjust the position of the paper guides on th e MP tray . S tandard paper sizes are marked on the MP tray . For standard paper sizes, slide the guides to the position marked correspondingly . 5 Align the paper with the p aper guides and insert as far as it will go.

3-2 Printing Operation Changing Network In terface Parameters This printer supports TCP/IP , TCP/IP (IPv6), NetW are, AppleT alk, IPP , SSL Server , IPSec protocols and Security Level. (For details refer to Advanced Operation Guide .) TCP/IP, TCP/IP (IPv6) settings 1 Press [MENU] .

Printing Operation 3-9 Security Level Security Level is primarily a menu used by service personnel for maintenance work. There is no need for customers to use this menu.
3-10 Printing Operation Printing a Network I nterface St atus Page Y ou can print out a status p age for the network interface. The network status page shows the network addresses, and other information under various network protocols about the network interface.
Printing Operation 3-11 Inst alling the Printer Driver Ensure the printer is plugged in and connected to the PC before installing the printer driver from the CD-ROM. Inst alling the Software in W indows If you are connecting this printer to a Windows PC, follow the next step s to install the printer driver .
3-12 Printing Operation Express Mode In Express Mode, the installer automatically detect s the printer when it is turned on. Use Express Mode for standard conn ec tion methods. 1 In the inst allation method selection window , select Express Mode . The print system detection window appears and the installer detect s the connected printers.
Printing Operation 3-13 Custom Mode Use Custom Mode if you want to specify the printer port and select the software to be inst alled. For example, if you do not want fonts inst alled on your computer to be replaced, select Custom Mode and deselect the Fon t s checkbox in the installation window .

It also allows you to specify and modify settings for printers not included in the KX driver . The S t atus Monitor is installed automatically during KX driver inst allation.
Printing Operation 3-19 3D View This shows the status of the monitored printer as a 3D image. Y ou can choose whether to show or hide the 3D view from the menu displayed when you right-click the S tatus Monitor icon. If an information notification event occurs, the 3D view and an alert sound are used to notify you.

4 -2 Maintenance General Information This chapter describes basic maintenance tasks you can perform on the printer . Y ou can replace the following component according to the printer ’s display: •.
Maintenanc e 4 -3 FS-C5300DN T oner Kit s For best results, we recommend that you only use genuine Kyocera Parts and Supplies. Should any damage be caused by the application of a toner other than the original Kyocera Mita toner , then this damage is excluded from the guarantee.
4-4 Maintenance Replacing the T oner Cont ainer This section explains how to replace the toner containers. When replacing the toner container of any color , always replace the waste toner box at the same time. If this box is full, the printer may be damaged or contaminated by the waste toner that may spill over the box.
Maintenanc e 4-5 3 Put the old toner container in the plastic bag (cont ained in the toner kit) and discard it later according to the local code or regulations for waste disposal.
4-6 Maintenance Replacing the W aste T oner Box Replace the waste toner box when the Check waste toner box message is displayed. A new waste toner box is included with the toner kit. The waste toner box needs to be replaced before the printer will operate.
Maintenanc e 4-7 5 Open the cap of the new waste toner box. 6 Insert the new waste toner box as shown in the figure. When the box is set correctly , it will snap into place. 7 Make sure that the waste toner box is correctly inserted and close the left cover .
4-8 Maintenance Cleaning the Printer The paper transfer unit should be cleaned each time the toner container and waste toner box are replaced. T o maintain optimum print quality , it is also recommended that the inside of the printer be cleaned once a month as well as when the toner container is replaced.
Maintenanc e 4-9 3 Wipe away the paper dust on th e registration roller and the paper ramp using the cleaning cloth. 4 Push the front cover back in completely .

5-2 Troubleshooting General Guidelines The table below provides basic solutions for problems you may encounter with the printer . We suggest you consult this t able to troubleshoot the problems before calling for service. Tips Printer problems may be solved easily by following the tips below .
Troubleshooting 5-3 Print Quality Problems The tables and diagrams in the following sections define print quality problems and the corrective action you can conduct to solve the problems. Some solutions may require cleaning or replacing parts of the printer .
5-4 Troubleshooting Black or white vertical streaks Check the operation panel for toner . If the Toner low C,M,Y,K message is displayed with color description, install a new tone r kit for the color . T o replace the toner container , refer to T oner Container Replacement on page 4-2.
Troubleshooting 5-5 Grey background Clean the main charger units. For details, refer to LSU/Charger (LSU/Main charger cleaning mode setting) section of the Advanced Operation Guide . Conduct color calibration either by switching the printer off then on or using the printer operation panel.
5-6 Troubleshooting Error Messages The following table lists errors and maintenance messages that you can be dealt with by yourself. If Call servic e appears, turn off the p rinter , disconnect the power cord, and contact your service technician. If Call servic e or Error.
Troubleshooting 5-7 Close top cover The top cover of the printer is open. Close the printer top cover . Device busy This message is displayed when Remove Device was selected while a USB memory was being used. The previous screen is displayed again 1 or 2 seconds.
5-8 Troubleshooting Job not stor ed Press GO Printing using the Job Box function failed because there was insuf ficient space available on the hard disk or RAM disk, or because the RAM disk was disabled when demounting the hard disk. T o print an error report and return the printer to the print-ready status, press [GO] .

5-12 Troubleshooting Clearing Paper Jams If the paper jammed in the p aper transport system, or no paper sheets were fed at all, the Paper jam message appears and the location of the paper jam (the component wh ere the paper jam has occurred) is also indicated.
Troubleshooting 5-13 General Considerations for Clearing Jams Bear in mind the following considerations when attempting jam removal: • If paper jams occur frequently , try using a different type of p aper , replace the paper with p aper from another ream, flip the paper stack over , or rotate the p aper stack 180 degrees.
5-14 Troubleshooting Paper Jam in Printer Paper is jammed at the paper cassette or inside the printer . Remove the jammed paper using the procedure given below .

In general you need to use the operation panel only to make default settings. Y ou can make most changes to the printer settings using the printer driver through the application software.

6-22 Using the Operation Pan e l Using Proof-and-Hold When you print multiple copies, this mode first prints one copy so that you can proof it before continuing to print the remaining copies. Since you can proof the printouts before printing the remaining copies, wast age of paper can be reduced.
Using the Operation P an el 6-23 Private/S tored (Printing a private print/stored job) In private printing, you can specify that a job is not printed until you release the job from the operation panel. When sending the job from the application software, specify a 4-digit access code in the printer driver .
6-24 Using the Operation Pan e l Deleting a Privat e/Stored Job Y ou can individually delete stored jobs by performing the following procedure. Jobs saved using Private Print will be automatically deleted if you turn the power off af ter printing, but jobs saved using S tored Job will not be deleted automatically .
