Quick Start Guide This section serves as a quick reference to the connection and installation procedures for the PowerLook 2100X L scanner. 1. Unpack your Scanner Unpack your scann er. Make sure that all the scanner system hardware, software, cabling, and documentation items indicated on th e packing list are present.

Chapter 1: Getting Started Your PowerLook 210 0XL scanner is extr emely user-friendly. Hardware and software installation can be completed in a few steps. In minutes you can start operating your scanner t o see for yourself the kind of quality scanned images it can produce.

Prepare the Scanner Prepare your scanner for installation through the fo llowing simple steps: Check and reset (if necessa ry) the scanner’s SCSI ID Run the automatic scanner self-test Test the Scanner The scanner automatically performs a simple self-test each time it is turned on.
To reset the SCSI ID, do the following: 1. Make sure the scanner powe r is off. 2. Use a screw driver to rot ate th e SCSI ID swit ch on the SC SI ID swit ch until an unused number appears in the switch’s notch. Note: Do not use SC SI ID sett ing from 7 t hrough 9 on your scanner .
Chapter 2: Macintosh Installation This chapter describe s how you can use your scanner with your Macin tosh computer. Interface Card Installation (For Mac with built in SCSI port users, please skip to next section) Before you can us e your scanner with you r comput er, you need to install the interface card in to your Computer.

How to Scan with Scan Frames Scan Frames are for use with transparencies and negatives. Scan Frames are thin, hinged rectangular-s haped plastic frames (see f ollowing diagrams) whic h can hol d a source doc ument of a slightly smaller size. The Scan Fram es come in a num ber of sizes.
Multiple Scanning Using the A3/ 35mm Slide Tray 1. Place the transparencies into the slide holders on the slide t ray. 2. Lift up the A3 Scanner’s transparency a d apter and place the Slide Tray on the scanner’s object glass.
Chapter 3: PC Installation This chapter describe s how you can connect and use the PowerLook 2100X L scanner with your IBM PC or compatible computer. Interface Card Installation Before you can us e your scanner with you r comput er, you need to install the interface card in to your PC.

Chapter 4: Troubleshooting Tips The PowerLook 2100XL scan ner was desi gned to pr ovide a hassle -free instal lation and o peration. However, should you encounter problems with you r scanner, correct them by wa y of the troubleshooting tips given in this chapter.

Appendix A: Installing A SCSI Card If you are using a SCSI interface card with your co mputer a nd scanner, refer to the i nstallation instructions provided with the interface card. After installing the card, do the follo wing steps before connecting your scann er to your computer: • Confirm or reset the SCSI ID of the scanner.
Checking the Terminators There should be two termin ators in a SCSI chain: it is best to place t he terminators at each end of the SCSI chain. PowerLook 2100XL h as a built-in active terminato r switch for you to turn on and off (see th e illustration).
Case 2: Connect the scanne r to a SCSI card that ha s anothe r SCSI devi ce attached to it. Case 3: Scanner is the last SCSI device in t he SCSI Chain. The setting of active terminator is the same with Case 1. Simply turning on the active terminator of your scan ner.
Connect the Computer and Scanner Now that the interface card has bee n installed and all of the settings on the scanner and card are properly set, you can connect the com puter an d the scanner. Once this has been done , the hardware installation will be complete.

26 SCSI ID A unique number between 0 and 7 that identi fies each device in a SC SI chain. The SCSI ID is set using a SCSI ID which found on most external SCSI devices. SCSI ID Switch The switch on m ost external SC SI devices which is used to set the SCS I ID.
