2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP Al l-in-One to print docume nts or photos f rom your computer, print photos directly from a m emory card or stora ge device, scan docum ents or photos, make copies, or print directly on the surface of specially coated CD s and DVDs.

Some Bluetoot h products exchange device ad dresses when they commun icate with each other, so you migh t also need to find out the device address of the H P All-in-One in orde r to establish a connecti on. To find out the devic e address of the product 1.
To install and print us ing the Microsoft stack 1. Make sure that you h ave installed the product softw are on the computer. NOTE: The purpose of installing the softw are is to make sure the printer driver is available f or the Bluetooth ® connection.

To change the devi ce name of the produ ct 1. Press Setup . 2. Press the down arrow bu tton until Bluetooth is h ighlighted, and t hen press OK . 3. 6 Load originals and load paper You can load many diffe rent types and sizes of paper in the HP All-i n-One, including lett er or A4 paper, photo pape r, transparencies, an d enve lopes. In ad dition, the H P All-in-One enables yo u to load and pri nt directly on the su rface of specially coated CDs and DVDs.
3. Close the lid. Choose papers for printing and copying You can use di fferent type s and sizes of pap er in the HP All-in-O ne. Review the foll owing recommenda tions to get the best printing and copyin g quality. Whenever you change paper types o r sizes, remember to change those settings.

2. Slide the paper-w idth guide to its oute rmost position. 3. Insert the st ack of paper into the main input tray with the short edge forward and the print side dow n. Slide the stack of paper fo rward until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that th e product is idle and silent whe n you load paper into the main input tray.
5. Lower the outpu t tray. Pull the tray extender towards you, as far as it will go. Flip th e paper catch at t he end of the tray extender to open the extender the rest of the way. NOTE: When you use legal-size paper, le ave the tray ext ender closed.
3. Insert t he stack of photo p aper into the ph oto tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. Slide the stack of photo paper forward un til it stops. If the p hoto paper you are using h as perforated tabs, loa d the photo paper so that the tabs are closes t to you.
To load postcard s, Hagaki, or index c ards in the photo tray 1. Raise the ph oto tray lid. 2. Slide the paper-width guid e to its outermost positi on. 3. Insert the stack of ca rds into the phot o tray with the sho rt edge forward and the print side down.
5. Lower the phot o tray lid. Load envelop es You can load one or m ore envelopes into the main i nput tray of the HP All-in -One. Do not use shiny or embossed enve lopes or envelopes that have clasps or windows. NOTE: For specific details on how to fo rmat text for print ing on envelopes, consult the help files in you r word processing software.
3. Slide the paper-width guid e to its outermost positi on. 4. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of th e main input tray, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up. Slide the stack of envelopes forw ard until it stops. TIP: To avoid pap er jams, tuck the flap in side each envelope.

4. Lower the CD/DVD tra y. The CD/D VD tray is located just below the control panel. When in its lowered p osition, the CD/D VD tray sits on top of the output tray. 5. Push the CD/D VD holder into the product un til the green lines on the CD/ DVD holder line up w ith the gree n lines on the C D/DVD tray, and then press OK .
To load a small-si ze (80 mm) CD/DVD on the CD/ DVD tray 1. If the product is placed close to a wall, move it at l east 7.5 cm (3 inches) away from the wall. 2. Carefully rem ove the CD/DVD hol der from the storage are a below the main pap er tray. 3.

Avoid paper jams To help avoid paper jams, follo w these guidelines. • Remove printed p apers from the output t ray frequently. • Prevent curled or wri nkled photo paper b y storing all unused photo paper fl at in a resealable bag. • Ensure that pap er loaded in the input tray lays flat and the edg es are not bent or torn.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-i n-One can be used with any so ftware applicatio n that allows printing. You can print a range of p rojects, such as bord erless images, newslett ers, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and post ers.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-i n-One as the default printe r to use from all so ftware applicatio ns. This means t hat the HP All-in-One is auto matically selected in the print er list when you select Print from the File menu in a software app lication.

Printing in maxim um dpi takes longer than prin ting with other set tings and requires a larg e amount of disk space. To print in Maximum dpi mode 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the inp ut tray. 2. On the F ile menu in your software application, click Print .
Related topics “ Load a CD/DV D” on page 45 Print on both sides of the page You can print two-sid ed pages with the HP All -in-One manually. W hen printing two-sid ed pages, make sure to use paper that is thick enough so tha t images do not show through to the othe r side.
• For bind ing on the side like a book or maga zine, click to c lear the Fl ip Pages Up check box. This causes t he odd and even p ages of your document to print oppo site of each other left-t o-right. This ensures that the top of the page i s always at the top of the sheet when you tu rn the pages in your bound d ocument.
6. In the Paper savin g options area, select Manual from the Two-sided pr inting drop- down lis t. 7. Select the bin ding edge from the Booklet layo ut is list, as appropri ate for your langua ge. • If your language reads left-to-right, click Left edge binding .
Print multiple pag es on a single sh eet You can print up t o 16 pages on a single shee t of paper. To print multiple pages on a single sheet 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the inp ut tray. 2. On the F ile menu in your software application, click Print .
A better way is to print the d ocument in reverse order so that the pages are stacked correctly. TIP: Set this option as a default setting so you do not have to remembe r to set it every time yo u print a multipl e-page docu ment. To prin t a multip le-page documen t in reve rse ord er 1.

To prin t a grou p of add resse s on lab els or e nvelope s 1. Print a test page on pl ain pape r first. 2. Place the test page on top of the lab el sheet or envelope , and hold both up to t he light. Check th e spacing for each block of text . Make adjustments a s needed.
7. In the Poster Printing drop-down list, click either 2x 2 (4 sheets) , 3x3 (9 sheets) , 4x4 (16 sheets) , or 5x5 (25 sheets) . This selectio n tells the product to enlarge your do cument so that it f its on 4, 9, 16, or 25 pages. If your originals are of multiple pages, each of tho se pages will be printed on 4, 9, 16, or 25 pages.
3. Double-click the p roduct icon. TIP: You can also double-click the printer icon in th e Windows taskbar. 4. Select the print j ob you want to cancel. 5. On the Docu ment menu, click Cancel Printing or Cancel , or p ress the Delete key on your keyboard.
8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-On e is equipped with mem ory card slots and a front USB port that enable you to print or edit ph otos from a memory card or storage de vice (such as a keychain drive, portable ha rd drive, or a digital camera in storage mode) wi thout uploading you r photos to a comp uter first.

TIP: To achieve th e best print qualit y, HP recommends usin g HP papers that are specifical ly designed for the typ e of project you are pr inting along wit h genuine HP ink. HP papers an d HP ink are specific ally designed to wo rk well togeth er to provide high-qua lity output.
Create special project s from your photos The HP All-i n-One enables you to crea te spec ial projects from your photos, in cluding: • Photo albums • Panorama prints • Wallet -size photos • Passport-size photo s To create sp ecial projects 1.
To save photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on the product or connect a storage device to the front USB port. 2. Press the right arrow but ton until Save is highlighte d, and then press OK . 3. Follow the onscreen prompts on your computer to save the photos to your compute r.
NOTE: The HP All-in-O ne automatically a djusts the rotation so photos print p roperly on the page. Wh en printing more than one, t he photos are orient ed to fit a maximum number of pho tos on the page. To rotate a photo 1. Press the Menu but ton on the photo selecti on screen.

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the proce ss of converting text and pictures into an electronic format fo r your computer. You can sca n almost anything (photos, magazine articles and text do cuments) on the HP All- in-One.
NOTE: When scanning, t he HP Photosmart Softw are enables you to save an image in the f ollowing fi le form ats: BMP, DCX, FPX, GIF, JPG, PCD, PCX, and TIF. To scan to a compute r 1. Load your original print side down on the right f ront corner of t he glass.
To save a scan to th e memory card or storag e device 1. Make sure your memory card is inserted into the appro priate slot on the product, or a storage device is connected to the front USB port. 2. Load your original print side down on the right front corner of the glass.
Stop scanning To stop scann ing ▲ Press Cancel on th e control panel . Chapter 9 84 Use the scan features Scan.
10 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne enables you to p roduce high-qualit y color and black-and-w hite copies on a variety of paper types, includi ng transpare ncies.

Preview your copy job After changing set tings on the HP All-in-One for making a cop y, you can preview an image of the expected ou tput on the display before st arting the copy.

To change the copy qu ality from the contr ol panel 1. Press OK when Copy is highlighted on the Home Scre en. 2. Press the Menu button to select Copy Settings . 3. Press the down arrow button to highli ght Quality , and then press OK . 4. Press the up arrow or down arrow bu tton to select a copy quality, and then press OK .
NOTE: The setting s you specify here a re only saved on the produ ct. They do not adjust the settings in the so ftware. You ca n save your most frequently used software settings by usin g the HP Photosmart software.
3. Press the down arrow button to highli ght Size , and then press OK . 4. Press the up arrow or dow n arrow button to highlight the appropriate copy size, and then press OK . Crop a n origin al After changing setti ngs on the HP All-in-One for maki ng a copy, you can use the cro p feature to speci fy a particular area of the original to copy.
To shift the margin for your copy from the control panel 1. Press OK when Copy is highlighte d on the Home Screen . 2. Press the Menu b u tton to select Copy Settings . 3. Change co py settings on th e pr oduct to accurately reflect the copy you want to make.
11 Use the reprint features The HP All-in-One enabl es you to make reprin ts of photo graphic originals placed on the glass. This section co ntains the following topics: • Make reprin ts of your pho.
To fix a faded original pho to when making a reprint 1. Press the Menu button on the reprint select ion screen. 2. In the Edit Phot o menu, press the up arrow or dow n arrow button to highligh t Fix Faded Origi nal , and then press OK . 3. Press the up arrow or do wn arrow button to high light Yes , and then press OK .
To crop a photo 1. Press the Menu button on the reprint selection screen . 2. In the Edit Photo menu, press the up arrow or down arrow butt on to highlight Crop , and then press OK . 3. Press the Zoom in button or the Zoom o ut button to zoom closer to or farthe r away from the subj ect of the photo.
Apply spe cial colo r effect s to your photos You can apply special co lor effects to a photo so that it prints with a sepia, hand-tinted, or black-and -white finish. To change the color effects 1. Press the Menu button on the reprint select ion screen.
12 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All- in-One requ ires little mai ntenanc e. Sometimes you mi ght want to clea n the glass and lid backing to remove surface dust and ensu re that your copies an d scans remain clear. You w ill also need to replace, a lign, or clean your p rint cartridges f rom time to time.
Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or cle an a print cartridge, you sho uld know the part nam es and how to handle the print cartridges. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (m ust be removed before installing) 3 Ink nozzles under tape Hold the print cartridges by their black plastic sides, w ith the label on top.
NOTE: Ink from the ca rtridges is used in the printing proce ss in a number of differ ent ways, includ ing in the initi alization proc ess, which prep ares the prod uct and cartri dges for printing, a nd in printhead servi cing, which keep s print nozzles clear and ink flowin g smoothly.
NOTE: At this ti me, some p ortions of the HP Web site are av ailable in Engli sh only. Choose the ri ght cartridge combi nation Choose the best combinat ion of cartridges for your print job: • Everyday printing: U se a black cartridge along w ith a tri-color ca rtridge.
If you are rep lacing the bl ack or photo print cartri dge, remove the pri nt cartridge from the slot on the right. 1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color print cartridge 2 Print cartridge slot for .
6. Hold the p rint cartridge with the HP logo on top , and insert the new print cartridge into the empty cartri dge slot. Make sure you p ush the print cartri dge in firmly unt il it snaps into place. If you are install ing the tri-color print cartridge, sl ide it into the lef t slot.

To insert a print c artridge into the print ca rtridge protector ▲ Place the print cartridge into the print cart ridge protector at a slig ht angle and snap it securely i nto place.
Ink-backup mo de Use the ink-backup mode to operate the HP All-in-One wit h only one print cartridge. Th e ink-backup mode is ini tiated when a print cartri dge is removed from the print cartridge carriage. During ink-ba ckup mode, the product can only pri nt jobs from the co mputer.

To align the print ca rtridges from the HP Photosma rt Software 1. Load lette r or A4 unused plain whi te paper into the input tray. NOTE: If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray w hen you align the print cartridges, the alignment will fa il.
5. The product pri nts a test page, aligns t he printhead, and calibrates the printer. Recycle or discard the page. NOTE: If you have colo red paper loaded in the in put tray when you alig n the printer, the alignme nt will fail. Loa d unused plain white paper into th e input tray, and then try th e alignment again .
Make sure you have the following mat erials available: • Dry foam rubber sw abs, lint-free cloth, or any soft mate rial that will n ot come apart or leave fi bers.
8. Clean only the copper-colored contacts. Allow the print cartri dges to dry for approximate ly ten minute s. 1 Copper-colored con tacts 2 Ink nozzles (do not clean) 9. Hold the pr int cartridge with the H P logo on top, and insert t he print cartridg e back into the slot.
10. Repeat if necessary for the other print cartridge. 11. Gently close the print cartridge door and p lug the power cord into the back of the product.

Cause: The product experienced an error. The produc t prints meaningless characters Try the followi ng solutions to resolve the issue.
Solution 1: Tu rn on the pro duct Solution: Look at the On light located on the product. I f it is not lit, the product is turned off. Ma ke sure the power cord is f irmly connected to the product and p lugged into a power outlet. Press th e On button to turn on the pro duct.
Some document s take a long time to pri nt. If nothing has pr inted several minutes after you sent a print job t o the product, check the p roduct display to see if th ere are any messages. Cause: The product was busy w ith another task. If this did no t solve the issu e, try the next soluti on.
Solution 9: Check the co nnection from the product to yo ur computer Solution: Check the connection f rom the product to your comput er. Verify that th e USB cable is securely p lugged in to the USB port on the back of the produc t. Make sure the other end of th e USB cable is plugged into a USB port on your computer.

If this did no t solve the issu e, try the next soluti on. Solution 2: Use Fit to Page to reduce the original to fit on the paper Solution: If your o riginal is larger than th e paper in the input tra y, use the Fit to Page feature t o reduce your original to f it on the paper in t he input tray.
If you want t o make a borderless copy of a very small original , scan the original into the computer, resize the image, and then print a borderless copy of the enlarged image. Cause: You were tryi ng to make a borderless copy of a very small original.
Solution 1: Push the CD/D VD holder into the CD/DVD tray Solution: Push the CD/DVD hold er forward in to the CD/DV D tray until the lines o n the holder line up to the white lin es on the tray. The end of t he holder marked with arrows goe s into t he CD/DVD tr ay first.
Solution 4: Load the n ext disc on the CD/DVD holder Solution: Remove the CD/DVD hold er from the CD/DVD tray. Remove the printed CD/DVD from the holder. Load the next disc onto the CD/ DVD holder with th e printable sid e up and reinsert the holder i nto the CD/DVD t ray until the lines o n the holder line up to the white lines on the tray.
The image on my printed disc is cropped and there is ink on the CD/DV D holder Solution: If you are lo ading a regular-size (120 mm ) CD/DVD onto the C D/DVD holder to be printed, do not flip the blue ring over th e disc. The blue ring should only be used if you are pr inting on a small-size (80 mm ) CD/DVD.
The design is not ce ntered on my disc Solution: Change the software set tings to center and size your desi gn for the disc you are using. Ref er to the documentation or t he online help of the software you are using for addi tional informati on. Cause: Your design se ttings were not correct.
Cause: You inserted the CD /DVD holder back into th e storage area. Errors If the product has an error, the lights on the product might f lash, or an error message might appear on yo ur computer screen.

Solution 3 : Make sur e the print ca rriage can move freely Solution: Un plug the power cable if it is not already unpl ugged. Check to see i f the print cartridge carriage will move fr eely from one side of t he printer to the other. Do not try to force it to move if it is hung up on som ething.
5. Try to print from your computer. If the p roduct prints when plugged directly i nto a power outlet while di sconnected from any powe r strips or surge suppressors, t he power strip or surge suppressor might not be al lowing sufficient voltage to reach the product.
Cause: The error was fals e. If this did no t solve the issu e, try the next soluti on. Solution 6: Reset the product Solution: Turn o ff the product, and then u nplug the power cord. Plug the p ower cord back in, and then press t he On button to turn on the prod uct.

Solution 6: Load one sheet of pa per at a time Solution: Try loading just on e sheet of photo paper i n the photo tray at a time. Cause: Paper mig ht not feed properly if you are using the product in an extremely high- or low-humi dity environment . Photo tra y canno t engage Solution: Remove the out put tray, and then repla ce it.

Open CD /DVD tray Solution: Lower the CD/DVD tray. To continue, pre ss OK . Cause: The C D/DVD tray was closed and a CD/DVD print job was started from the computer. CD/DVD holder not found Solution: Load a printable disc o nto the CD/DV D holder with th e printable side up.
Cause: A printable CD/DVD was no t found in the holder. Scan errors Review this section if you receive an error such as one of the following: • An error occurred communicatin g with the scanni ng device. • The scanning device could not be ini tialized.
3. Select HP Photosma rt All-In-On e Driver Softwar e , and then click Change/ Remove . Follow the onscreen instructions. 4. Disconnect the product from your computer. 5. Restart your comput er. NOTE: It is important t hat you disconnect t he product before restar ting your computer.
Cause: Communication pro blems between the pro duct and the USB con troller caused this error to occur. This might be caused by an incomplete installatio n, a USB cable lo nger than 3 meters (9.8 feet) i n length, or a defecti ve USB cable. If this did no t solve the issu e, try the next soluti on.
Solution 5: Ch eck the power supply Solution: Check the power supply. To check the po wer supply 1. Make sure the power co rd is firmly connected to both the prod uct and the power adapter. Plug the power cord into a po wer outlet, surge pr otector, or power strip .
Solution 6: Check the USB conne ction between the product and the computer Solution: Check th e USB connection between the pro duct and the compute r. To check the U SB connection 1. Verify that the USB cabl e is securely plugged into the USB port on the back of the product .
8. Restart the compu ter. 9. After the co mputer restar ts, try to sca n again . Cause: The pro duct was not properly connected to the computer. If this di d not sol ve the issu e, try the next solu tion.
Solution 8: Di sable the Lexbces se rvice Solution: Check if the Lex bces service is started, a nd disable it. If a Lexmark or Dell all-in- one devic e is connecte d with a USB cabl e to a computer where product is in stalled, the HP software might not scan because the Lex bces service is running.

3. Turn off programs th at run in the b ackground. NOTE: When the computer is tu rned on, a software grou p called the Terminate and Sta y Resident (TSR) programs au tomatically loads. Th ese programs activate some of the computer utilitie s, such as the anti -virus software, but a re not required for the comp uter to function.

Solution 2: Clear the p rint queue Solution: Re start your computer to clear the print queue. To clear the print queue 1. Rest art your co mputer. 2. After the compu ter has restarted, check the print queue.
After reconnecting t he USB cable, the product should sta rt printing the jobs i n queue. NOTE: If you are connecting the product through a USB hub, m ake sure the hub is turned on. If the hub is on, try connecting di rectly to your computer. 5. If the product does not start prin ting automatically, start another print j ob.
7. If the wr ong driver is selected, select the correct driver f rom the Dri ver drop-d own menu. 8. Click OK to save your changes. Cause: The product was not be set as t he default printer, or the wrong driver might have been conf igured. If this did no t solve the issu e, try the next soluti on.
4. If there are sti ll documents in the queue, restart the computer an d try printing again afte r the computer has restarte d. 5. Check the pri nt queue again to make su re it is clear, and then try to print again. If the print qu eue is not clear, or if it is cl ear but jobs ar e still failing t o print, proceed to the n ext soluti on.

If printing is su ccessful from Notepad but not th e software application, contact the manufacture r of that applicat ion for supp ort.
