To connect the HP Photosmart t o a Windows computer wi th an ad hoc connection, the computer must have a wireless network adapt er and an ad hoc profi le. To create a network pr ofile NOTE: The product comes co nfigured with a net work profile with hpsetup as th e network name (SSID) .
2. Press the down arrow butt on until Network is highligh ted, and then press OK . 3. Press the down arrow butt on to highlig ht Wireless Setup Wizard , and th en press OK . This runs th e Wireless Setup Wizard . The setup wizard search es for available netwo rks, and then displays a list of detected networ k names (SSIDs).
NOTE: 1 I f your computer is configured t o connect to a series of network dr ives, make sure that your computer is currently connecte d to these drives bef ore installing the sof tware.
2. Press the down arrow butt on until Bluetooth Me nu is highlighted, and then press OK . NOTE: It is require d that the Bluetooth Radi o is turned on to enable th e Bluetooth o ptions in the Bluetooth Menu . 3. Press the down arrow butt on until Device Address is highlighted, and then press OK .
Set up the HP Photosmart for faxing Before you begin setting up the HP Photosmart for faxi ng, determine which kind of phone system your country/ region uses. The inst ructions for settin g up the HP Phot osm art for faxing differ dep ending on whet her you have a serial- or pa rallel-type phone system.
Make sure to read an d answer the follo wing questions in the order they are presented . 1. Do you have a digital sub scriber line (DSL) service through your telephone company? (D SL might be called ADSL in your country/region.) ❑ Yes, I have DSL. ❑ No.
Select your fax setup case Now that you have answ ered all the que stions about the equ ipment and servi ces that share the p hone line wit h the HP Photosmart, you are ready to choose the be st setup case for your hom e or office.
Case A: Separate fax line (no voice calls received) If you have a separat e phone line on wh ich you receive no voice ca lls, and you have no other equi pment conne cted on this phone line, set up the HP Ph otosmart as describe d in this section.

Case D: Fax with a distinctive ring ser vice on the same line If you subscribe to a distinctive ring service (through yo ur telephone company) that al lows you to have multiple phone numbers on one phone line, each with a differen t ring pattern, set up the HP Photosmart as described in this section.
Case E: Shared voice/fax line If you receive both voi ce calls and fax calls at the same phone number, and you have no other off ice equipment (o r voice mail) on this phone line , set up the HP Photosmart as described in this section.
NOTE: You cannot receive faxes automati cally if you have a voice mai l service at the same phone n umber you use for fax calls. You must receive faxes manually; this m eans you must be availab le to respond in person to incoming fax calls.
Since your computer dial-up modem shares the phone line w ith the HP Photosmart , you will not be able to us e both your modem and the HP Photosma rt simultaneously. For ex ample, you cannot use the HP Photosmart for faxing if you are using your computer dial-up modem to send an e-mail or access the In ternet.

6. If your modem software is set to re ceive faxes to yo ur computer auto matically, turn off that setting. NOTE: If you do not turn off the autom atic fax reception setting in your modem softwa re, the HP Ph otosmart will not be ab le to receive faxes.

4 Paper basics You can load many dif ferent types and size s of paper in the H P Photosmart, includi ng letter or A4 paper, photo paper, transparencies , and envelopes.
Recommended papers for printing If you want th e best print quality, H P recommends using H P papers that are speci fically designed f or the type of project you are pri nting. Depending on your country/region, so me of these p apers might not be available.

To align the printer from the HP Photosmart Software 1. Load letter, A4, or legal unuse d plain white p aper into the input tray.
To evaluate the pri nt quality repo rt 1. Check the ink leve ls shown on the page. If a cartridge shows very low in k levels and you fi nd the print qu ality unacceptable, co nsider replacing that ink cartridge. Prin t quality typically deteriorat es as cartridg es run out of ink.
◦ Check the estimated ink le vels in the cartridges. ◦ Remove the cartridge corresponding to t he streaked bar and clean t he cartrid ge electrical co ntacts. ◦ Reinstall t he cartridge and ma ke sure all of th e cartridges are properly in stalled.
NOTE: If aligning the printe r does not solve this print qual ity issue, cont act HP support for service. Cause: The print head needed to be cleaned. If this did not solve t he issue, try the next sol ution. Solution 8: Co ntact HP s upport Solution: Contact HP support for service.

Solution 3: Check the print settings Solution: Check the print set tings. • Check the paper type sett ing to make sure it matches the type of paper loaded in th e input tray. • Check the print quality sett ing and make sure it is not set too low.

If this did not solve t he issue, try the next solution. Solution 2: Lower the fax resolution Solution: For faster transmission, use Standard resolution . This setting prov ides the fast est possible transmission with the lowest quality of fax. The default re solution is Fine , which ca n take longer to send.

Ink is drying Solution: Two-sided p rinting requires t he printed sheets to be d ry before printing on the back sid e. Wait until the product pulls t he printed sheet to print on the back side. Cause: Transparenci es and some other media requ ire a drying time that is longer than norm al.

Solution 2: Close the print carriage latch Solution: Lift the latc h handle and care fully lower it to make sure that the lat ch securing the print head is securely closed. Leaving the latch h andle raised can result in in correctly seated ink ca rtridges and problems printing.

Ink service capa city warning Solution: If you are going to move or transp ort the product after receiving this mess age, make sure you keep it uprigh t and do no t tip it on its s ide to avoi d ink leak age. Printing can contin ue, but ink system behavi or might change.
The print carriage move s to the center of t he product. NOTE: Wait until the print carriage sto ps moving before proce eding. 3. Make sure the ink cartridges ar e installed in the correct slots. Match the shape of the i con and color of the in k cartridge with the slot that has th e same shaped icon a nd color.
8. Press the ink cartridge back d own into place. The tab should make a sna pping noise when the ink cart ridge is correctly seated . If the ink cartridge did not make a snappi ng noise, the tab might need to be re adjusted. 9. Remove the ink ca rtridge from t he slot.

c . Use a fresh, lig htly dampened, li nt-free clot h to wipe the pla stic ramps on bot h sides of the nozzles. Wip e away from the n ozzles. d . Wipe the previousl y cleaned areas dry wi th a dry lint-free cloth before proceedin g to the next step. 7.
9. Carefully lower the latch handle. NOTE: Make sure you lower the la tch handle before rei nserting the ink cartridges. Leaving the la tch handle raised can resul t in incorrectly se ated ink cartridges an d problems printing. Th e latch must remai n down in order to correctly install the ink cartridges.
