5 IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Refuel With Care Pump Operati on Operator Responsibility PUMP SAFETY Gasoline is extremely flammable, and gasoline vapor can explode. Refuel outdoors, in a well-ventilated area, with the engine sto pped and the pump on a level surface.
6 PUMP SAFETY Hot Exhaust Carbon Monoxide Hazard The muffler becomes very hot during operation and rem ains hot for a while after stopping the engine. Be careful not to touch the muffler while it is hot. Let the engine cool before transporting the pump or storing it indoors.

13 BEFORE OPERATION IS YOUR PUMP READY TO GO? Check the General Conditi on of the Pump For your safety, and to maximize the service life of your equipment, it is very important to take a few m oments before you operate the pump to check its condition.
14 BEFORE OPERATION Check the Suction and Dischar ge Hoses Check the Engine Check the general conditi on of the hoses. Be s ure the hoses are in serviceable condition before connectin g them to the pump. Remember that the suction hose must be reinforced construction to prevent hose collapse.
15 OPERA TION SAFE OPERATING PRECAUTIONS To safely realize the full potential of this pump, you need a complete understanding of its o peration and a c ertain amount of practice with its controls. Before opera ting the pump for the first time, please review the IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION on page and the chapter titled BEFORE OPERATION .
16 OPERATION PUMP PLACEMENT SUCTION HEAD DISCHARGE HEAD T T O O T T A A L L H H E E A A D D For best pump performance, place the p ump near the water level, and use hoses that are no longer than necessary. That will enable the pump to produce the greatest output with the least self-priming time.

18 OPERATION DISCHARGE HOSE INSTALLATION PRIMING THE PUMP HOSE CONNECTOR HOSE CLAMP DISCHARGE HOSE PRIMING WATER FILLE R CAP WATER Use a commercia lly available hose and hose connector, and clamp provided with the pump. It is best to use a short, large- diameter hose, because that will reduce fluid fric tion and improve pump performance.
19 OPERATION STARTING THE ENGINE F F U U E E L L V V A A L L V V E E L L E E V V E E R R CHOKE LEVER THROTTLE LEVER C C L L O O S S E E D D ON F F A A S S T T Move the fuel valve lever to the ON position. Move the throttle lever away from the SLOW position, about 1/ 3 of the way toward the FAST position.
20 OPERATION ON IGNITION SWITCH STARTER GRIP Direction to pull Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Pull the starter grip lightly until you f eel resistance, then pul l briskly in the direction of the arrow as shown below. Return the starter grip gently.
21 OPERATION SETTING ENGINE SPEED CHOKE LEVER SLOW O O P P E E N N F F A A S S T T THROTTLE LEVER If the choke lever was moved to the CLOSED position to start the engine, gradually move it to the OPEN pos ition as the e ngine warms up. After starting the engine, move the throttle lever to the FAST position for self-priming, and check pump output.
22 OPERATION STOPPING THE ENGINE THROTTLE LEVER SLOW IGNITION SWITCH O O F F F F To stop the engine in an emergency, simply turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Under normal condi tions, use the foll owing procedure. Move the throttle lever to the SLOW position.
23 OPERATION FUEL VALVE LEVER O O F F F F Turn the fuel valve lever to the OFF position. After use, remove the pump drain plug (see page ), and drain the pump chamber. Remove the filler cap, and flush the pump chamber with clean, fre sh water. Allow the w ater to drain from th e pump chamber, then reinstall the filler cap and drain plug.
24 SERVICING YOUR PUMP THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE Maintenance, replacement, or repair of emission control devices and systems may be performed by any engine repair establishment or individual, using parts that are ‘‘certified’’ t o EPA standards.
− − − 25 SERVICING YOUR PUMP MAINTENANCE SAFETY Safety Precautions Carbon monoxide poisoning from engine exhaust . Burns from h ot parts. Injury from moving parts. Some of the most important safety precautions follow. However, we cannot warn you of every conceivable hazard that can ari se in performing maintenance.

27 SERVICING YOUR PUMP REFUELING MAXIMUM FUEL LEVEL Remove the fuel tank cap and check the fuel level. If the fu el level is low, ref uel in a we ll-ventilate d area with the engine stopped. If the engine h as been runnin g, allow it to cool f irst. Never refuel the engine inside a bu ilding where gasoline fumes can reach flames or sparks.
28 SERVICING YOUR PUMP FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS Spilled fuel is not only a fire hazard, it caus es environmental damage. Wipe up spills immediately. Fuel can damage paint and pla stic. Be careful no t to spill fuel when filling your fuel tank. Damage caused by spilled fuel is not covered under the Distributor’s Limited Warranty.
29 SERVICING YOUR PUMP ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK OIL FILLER CAP/DIPST ICK OIL FILLER NECK UPPER LIMIT Check the engine oil level with the engine stopped and in a level position. Remove the oil filler cap/ dipstick and wipe it clean. Inse rt and remove the dips tick witho ut screwing it i nto the fill er neck.
30 SERVICING YOUR PUMP ENGINE OIL CHANGE OIL LEVEL DRAIN PLUG OIL FILLER CAP/DIPST ICK Drain the used oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely. Place a suitable container below the engine to catch the used oil, then remove the oil filler cap/ dipstick and the drain plug.
31 SERVICING YOUR PUMP ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATIONS AMBIENT TEMPERATU RE SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general use. Other viscosities shown in the chart may be used when the average temperature in your area is within the indicated range.
32 SERVICING YOUR PUMP AIR FILTER INSPECTION WING NUT AIR FILTER AIR CLEANER COVER Unscrew the wing nut and remove the air cleaner cover. Check the air f ilter to be sure it is clean and in good condition. If the air fil ter is dirty, clean it as described on page .

34 SERVICING YOUR PUMP SEDIMENT CUP CLEANING SEDIMENT CUP Move the fuel valve lever to the OFF position, then rem ove the fuel sediment cup and O-ring. Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive. You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel.
−− − − 35 SERVICING YOUR PUMP SPARK PLUG SERVICE SPARK PLUG WRENCH SPARK PLUG CAP 0.028 0.031 in (0.70 0.80 mm) In or der to se rvice t he spark plu g, you will need a spa rk plug w rench (commercially available). Incorrect spark plugs can cause engine dam age.
− 36 SERVICING YOUR PUMP Attach the spark plug cap. A loose spark plug can overheat and damage t he engine. Overtightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head. If installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/ 2 turn after the spark plug seats.
37 SERVICING YOUR PUMP SPARK ARRESTER SERVICE (optional equipment) WT20X MUFFLER MUFFLER PROTECTOR SPARK ARRESTER 4 mm SCREW 5 mm SCREW (4) Your engine is not factory-equipped with a spark arrester. In some areas, it is illegal to o perate a n engine without a spark a rrester.

MUFFLER PROTECTOR WT30X and WT40X Install the spark arrester, muffler protector, and muffler in the reverse order of disassembly.
39 SERVICING YOUR PUMP PUMP CASING CLEANING Removal: WRENCH WRENCH DRAIN PLUG WRENCH KNOBS (4) KNOBS (4) PUMP CASING PUMP COVER VOLUTE CASE O-RING After each use, clean the inside of the pump casing using the f ollowing procedure: Remove the drain plug f rom the pump cover using the wrench to drain the water inside.
40 SERVICING YOUR PUMP Installation: VOLUTE CASE PUMP CASING PUMP COVER WRENCH DRAIN PLUG KNOBS (4) O-RING Install the drain plug in the pump cover . After tightening the pump cover knobs, check the pump cover and pump casing to ensure that ther e is no water leakage.
41 STORAGE STORAGE PREPARATION Cleaning Proper storage preparation is essential for keeping your pump troublefree and looking good. The f ollowing steps will help to keep rust and corr osion from impairing your pump’s function and appearance, and will make the engine easier to start when you use the pump again.
42 STORAGE Fuel DRAIN PLUG Stop the engine, and allow it to cool. You can extend f uel storage life by add ing a fuel stabilizer that is formulated for that purpose, or you can avoid fuel deterioration problems by draining the fuel tank and carburetor.
43 STORAGE Adding a Fuel Stabilizer to Extend Fuel Storage Life FUEL VALVE LEVER O O F F F F When adding a fuel s tabilizer, fill the f uel tank with fresh gas oline. If only partially filled, ai r in the tank will promote f uel deterioration during storage.
44 STORAGE Draining the Fuel Tank and Carburet or DRAIN BOLT SEDIMENT CUP Place an approved gasoline container below the carburetor, and use a funnel to avoid spilling fuel. Remove the carburetor drain bolt and sediment cup, then move the fuel valve lever to the ON position.
− 45 STORAGE Engine Oil STORAGE PRECAUTIONS Align no tch on pulley with hole at t op of cover. Change the engine oil (see page ). Remove the spark plug (see page ). Pour a tablespoon (5 10 cc) of clean engine oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter grip several times to distribute the oil in t he cylinder.
46 STORAGE REMOVAL FROM STORAGE Place the pump on a level surface. Tilting can cause f uel or oil leakage. With the engine and exhaust system cool, cover the pump to keep out dust. A hot engine and exhaust system can ig nite or melt some materials. Do not use sheet plastic as a dust cover.
47 TRANSP ORTING If the pump has been run ning, allow the engine to cool f or at least 15 minutes before loading the pump on the transport vehicle. A hot engine and exhaust syste m can burn you and can ignite some materials. Keep the pump level when transporting to reduce the possibility of fuel leakage.

51 TECHNICAL & CONSUMER INFORMATION Carburetor Modificati on for High Altitude Operation At high altitude, the standard carburetor air-fuel mixture will be too rich. Performance will decrease, and fuel consumption will increase. A very rich mixture will also foul the spark plug and cause hard starting.
