4 SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS Recognize safety information. This is the safety-alert sym- bol . When you see this symbol on the furnace and in instructions or manuals, be alert to the potential for personal injury . Understand the signal words—D ANGER, W ARNING, CA UTION and NOTE.
5 Examine the furnace installation monthly to determine that: 1. All fl ue gas carrying areas external to the furnace (i.e. chimney , vent connector) are clear and free of obstructions. 2. The vent connector is in place, slopes upward and is phys- ically sound without holes or excessi ve corrosion.
6 11 12 3. T urn OFF electrical supply to the furnace. (See Fig. 12.) 4. Remov e main furnace door . (See Fig. 13.) 13 5. The gas v alve will hav e a control switch to turn off and on. T urn the control switch on the gas control to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes.
7 After the hot surface igniter is heated for 17 seconds, the gas v alve permits gas to fl o w to the main burners. After ignition and a time delay of about 60 sec, the furnace blo wer will start.
8 Only trained and quali fi ed personnel should install, repair , or ser- vice heating equipment. Untrained personnel can perform basic maintenance functions such as cleaning and replacing air fi lters. All other operations must be performed by trained and qual- i fi ed service agency personnel.
9 31 32 b) Electronic air cleaner (EA C) – Refer to EA C Owner’ s Manual for maintenance information. 5. If washable fi lter , wash fi lter (if dirty) in sink, bathtub, or out- side with a garden hose. Always use cold tap water . A mild liquid detergent may be used if necessary .
10 Check the combustion-air intak e and vent pipe on the outside of your home for blockage. When dirt, soot, scale, or rust is allo wed to b uild up, your furnace can suf fer a loss of ef fi ciency and perform improperly . Accumu- lations on the main b urners can result in fi ring out of normal sequence.
11 6. Insert fi eld-supplied funnel into tube. 7. Pour 1 quart of antifreeze into funnel/tube. Antifreeze should run through inducer housing, ov er fi ll condensate trap, and fl o w into open fi eld drain. (See Fig. 43.) 8. Remov e funnel and tube from inducer housing and replace drain connection cap and clamp.
