SNC 51 00 24 Post-Installati on 6-00020-0 2 P ost-Installation The ADIC Management Console application allo ws you to manage multiple SNC 5100s from any location on your netwo rk. For installation and operating instructions, see the ADIC Management Console User Guide .
Other Installation Issues 25 6-00020-02 SNC 5 100 T ransfer Rates: Ultra, F ast, and Asynchronous The SCSI protocol def ines two methods of data transfer: synchronous and asynchronous. Asynchronous transfers may run as fast as 5 MB/sec, while synchronous transfers may run as fast as 180 MB/sec (Ultra2/3) at block sizes of 256 k.
SNC 51 00 26 Other Installation Issues 6-00020-0 2 The SCSI protocol also def ines a priority-based arbitration method, based on the target ID of the de vice attaching to the b us. The SCSI ID priority order is, from highest to lo west, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8.
Other Installation Issues 27 6-00020-02 SNC 5 100 SCSI Bus T erminati on Each end of a SCSI bus must be terminated correctly . The SNC 5100 provi des termination on each of its buses . The terminators can be disabled using a jumper on the SNC 5100 motherboard.
SNC 51 00 28 Other Installation Issues 6-00020-0 2 Missing terminat or at the end of a SCSI bu s Check that an external terminator is attached or that the end de vice has termination ena bled. Excessive ter mination Check that all de vices other than the end de vices ha v e termination disabled.
Other Installation Issues 29 6-00020-02 SNC 5 100 Inadequate ca bles Older cables may not be suitable for running at Ultra speeds. Be s ure all cables are rated for Ultra . Mixe d ca ble typ e s If a SCSI bus has both round cables and flat ribbon cables, it may suf fer problems when running at Ultra speeds.
SNC 51 00 30 Other Installation Issues 6-00020-0 2 Step 5. Install optional utility softw are, if desired. Perform steps 4 and 5 after the SNC 5100 is installed and connected to the host system. Installing th e SAN Explorer The SAN Explorer software is only a v ailable for hosts running the W indo ws NT or W indo ws 2000 opera ting systems.
Other Installation Issues 31 6-00020-02 SNC 5 100 Some operating systems pro vide you with software methods that allo w you to add or remov e SCSI de vices dynam ically after the host has booted. T o ensure reliable operation, reboot the host. If you update SNC 5100 f irmware you must reboot in order to use the ne w f irmware.
