1 In this Guide The Adaptec ASH-1233 A T A adapter pr ovides increased performance with enhanced A T A technology . The Adaptec ASH-1233 supports A T A/133 har d disk drives with data transfer rates up to 133 MegaBytes (MB) per second, providing maximum disk performance in systems that have a PCI bus.

3 Installation Checklist Installation Checklist T o successfully install your Adaptec ASH-1233 adapter and A T A disk drives, perform these tasks, in or der: 1 Install the ASH-1233 a dapter . (S ee the next section below .) 2 Prepar e your disk drives.
4 Installing Y our Ada ptec ASH-1233 Adapter 3 Locate an unused expansion slot and r emove the slot cover . Save the slot cover screw for use in Step 5 . 4 Insert the ASH-1233 adapter in the PCI expansion slot. Pr ess down firmly until the adapter clicks into place.

6 Connecting Y our A T A Disk Drive s Connecting Y our A T A Disk Drives The ASH-1233 adapt er supports up to four A T A disk drives in a master/slave configuration. (See Setting Jumpers on A T A Disk Drives on page 5 for more information.) Connect each A T A disk drive to the ASH-1233 adapter using the proper 40-pin IDE cable.
7 Connecting Y our A T A Disk Drive s Connecting One A T A Di sk Drive on a Cable When you connect only one A T A disk drive to a cable, that disk drive must be set as a master drive. (See Settin g Jumpers on A T A Disk Drives on page 5 for more information.
8 Mounting A T A Disk Drives and Connecting P ower Cables Connecting T wo A T A Disk Dr ives to the Same Cable When you connect two A T A disk drives to a cable, one disk drive must be set as the master , the other must be set as the slave . (See Setting Jump ers on A T A Disk Drives on page 5 for more info rmation.
9 Installing the Device Driver 2 Connect an LED cable from your computer ’s motherboard to the primary LED connector on your ASH-1233 adapter (shown in the Figure on page 2 ). 3 Connect a power cable fr om your computer ’s power supply to each A T A disk drive.
10 Installing the Device Driver Windows XP When you power on your computer , W indows automatically detects the new adapter and opens th e New Har dwar e Installation W izard. T o complete the device driver i nstallation: 1 Insert the Adaptec ASH-1233 CD into your CD-ROM drive.
11 Installing the Device Driver 5 T o verify that the adapter is installed correctly , right-click the My Computer desktop icon, select Properties , click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. Expand SCSI and RAID Controllers and ensur e that the controller is listed, as shown below .

20 T r oubleshooting T roubleshooting If you have any problems using the Adaptec ASH-1233 adapter , work through these troubleshooting suggestions: ■ Ensure that the ASH-1233 adap ter is inserted evenly and completely in the PCI slot. ■ Ensure that the PCI expansion slot is 5V and compliant with PCI 2.
