2 Introduction Intr oduction Thank you for purchasing an Act io n tec 13 94 F ireWire Car d. Ac t i o n tec’ s implementation of the IEEE 1394 standar d brings the latest in serial bus technology to your PC in an inexpensive PCI car d.

4 Do This First • Do not, under any circumstances, insert or remo ve the PCI car d while the comput er is turned on. Doing so with any PCI card will have unpredictable results which may include per- manent physical damage to the card, your computer ’ s mainbor d, or both.
Instal ling the PCI Card 5 Installing the PCI Car d C AU T I O N : A l ways discharge static electricity before handling the1394 FireWire Card. Y ou ma y d ischarge static electricity by touch- ing a grounde metal structure or by using any commer- cially a v ailab le grounding s trap.
6 Installing the PCI Card S tep 5 Insert the PCI card into the available PCI expansion slot. Ensure that the car d is seated properly before securing it with the screw removed in Step 4, as shown in the foll owing diagram.

S tep 2 Windo ws 98 will immediately display the Ad d New Hardware W izard and identify the modem as a “PCI OHCI Compliant I EEE 1394 H ost Controller”.
8 Configuring Windows 98 Note: After inse rting the CD-ROM, m ake sure to wait a f ew seconds before clickin Ne xt. Other- wise, the Wizard ma y rep ort that it was un able to find the drivers. If this is the case, cli c k Back and then click Next, repeating this pro- cess un til th e CD- ROM has been rec- ogniz ed by th e drive.

12 Configuring Windows 2000 Professional S tep 4 Double-click the listing for OH CI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controlle r. Click the Driver tab to bring it to the front, then click U pdate Driv er . S tep 5 This will start the U pdate Device Driver W izard.

S tep 7 In the dialog box that appears next, make sure that “CD-R OM dri ves” is the only option selected.

S tep 9 Windo ws will copy the necessary file s an d report that installation of the “ Actiontec 13 94 F ireWi r e Car d” i complete.
