ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Network 37 C HAPTER 3 Wireless LAN Network This chapter provides backgro und in formation on wireless LAN network. 3.1 Wireless LAN Overview The following figure pro vides an exampl e of a wireless network with an AP .
ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide 38 Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Ne twork • Every device in the same wireless network must use security compatible with the AP or peer computer . Security stops unauthorized devices from using the wireless network. It can also protect the information that is sent in the wireless network.
ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Network 39 This type of security does not protect the information that is sent in the wireless network. Furthermore, there are ways for unauthorized wireless devices to get the MAC address of an authorized device.
ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide 40 Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Ne twork • Shared Key mode involves a shared secret ke y to authenticate the wireless station to the AP or peer computer . This requires you to enable the wireless LAN security and use same settings on both the wireless statio n and the AP or peer computer .
ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Network 41 If the AP or the wireless clients do not support WP A2, jus t use WP A or WP A-PSK depending on whether you have a n external RADIUS server or not. Select WEP only when the AP and/or wireless clients do not support WP A or WP A2.
ZyXEL G-220 v3 User’s Guide 42 Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Ne twork When you use the PIN method, you must enter th e PIN from one device (usually the wireless client) into the second device (usually the Ac cess Point or wireless router). Then, when WPS is activated on the first device, it presents its PIN to the second device.
