1 Chapter 1 Introduction Complying w ith the IEE E 802. 1 1g s t anda r d, W L-U356 provides simple , reliable, high-speed w ireless connec t ivity for both desktop and laptop users. By combining t w o, s t ate-of - the - art technologies — USB 2.0 and 802.
2 signals can p r ovide w ireless users w ith seamless net w ork access. The Infras t ruc t ure mode is appropria t e for en t erprise-scale w ireless access to a central da t abase o r provides various w ireless applications for mobile use r s. Infrastructure mode also suppor t s r oaming capabilities f or mobile use r s.

6 Chapter 2 Installation Procedure Before you proceed w ith the ins t allation, it is necessary that y ou have enough info r ma t ion about t he W i r eless USB Adapter . Follo w the procedure described belo w in this chapter t o ins t all t he USB adap t er under W indo w s 98SE / ME/2000/ X P/Server 2003.

15 A d Hoc : This mode enables interconnecting of w ireless adapters w ithou t the presence of an A P or Route r . Ø Encr y ptio n : There are four items f or selection: Disable, W E P , TKI P , and AES . Y ou can con f igu r e the encryption method based on the se t tings in the “ E ncryption Setting ” field.
16 u K e y Length : Select the 64, 128, or 256-bit W E P key to encrypt transmitted da t a. Large r key length w ill provide higher level of securit y , bu t the throughput w ill t hus be a ff ected. u Default K e y I D : Select one of the four keys (1~4) as the specified encryption ke y .
