http://www .accusys.com.tw 4 User ’s Manual About This document This document discusses how to properly design y our RAID solution when using the ACS-77100 RAID controller , and guides you to c onf igure the RAID contr oller . Customer should have a working knowledge of RAID planning and data stor age.
http://www .accusys.com.tw 5 User ’s Manual 1. Introduction to the ACS-77100 1.1. Overview The ACS-77100 RAID controller provides RAID 0 (stri ping), RAID 10 (Striping and mirroring) and RAID 5 (striping with parity) f or you to construct a disk arra y optimized for perf ormance or reliability .
http://www .accusys.com.tw 6 User ’s Manual 1.3. Understanding RAID Levels 1.3.1. RAID 0 (striping) RAID 0 links each drive in the arr ay to f r om one large drive. Storage cap acity is determined by the smallest driv e in the array . This capacity is then applied to format all other drive in the array .
http://www .accusys.com.tw 7 User ’s Manual 1.3.2. RAID 10 (striping and mirroring) RAID 0+1 combines mirroring and striping f unctions on a minimum of four hard disks. Mirroring pr ovides full redundancy and protects data in case of multiple drive failure (pr oviding that data on on e of each mirrored pair of drives is in tact).
http://www .accusys.com.tw 8 User ’s Manual 1.3.3. RAID 5 (striping with parity) and RAID 5+hot spare RAID 5 uses a mathematical expression that compar es data from three drives and calculates a f ourth piece of data called “parity” which is saved on a f ourth drive.
