2.0 GENERAL INFORMATION Thank you f or your purchase of this P atton Electronics product. This product has been thoroughly inspected and tested and is warranted f or One Y ear par ts and labor .
clear channel timing (without byte integ r ity preser vation) o ver the modem link. The 1082/F is capable of handling either netw ork timing or modem timing, thereby realizing netw ork e xtension or network replacement con- figurations. Clock jitter is attenuated according to G.
Applications and Associated Timing There are two typical applications that result in two diff erent timing modes f or the G.703 interf ace. These are described in the following sections . Timing of Application 1: Network Loop Extension. In this application, the network supplies the timing for the entire system.
The first G.703 interf ace is in Network Timed mode. The second is in Recover Cloc k mode. See Figure 2. Figure 2. Network Loop Extension Configuration Timing of Application 2: Network Replacement. The first modem uses an internal timing source and supplies the timing for the entire system.
The first G.703 modem is in Internal Clock mode. The second modem is in Receive Recover mode. See Figure 3. Figure 3. Network Replacement Configuration 2.5 TIMING MODE SELECTIONS Based on the timing arrangements and cloc k sources mentioned abo v e, there are two timing modes in which the interf ace can work.
In both cases, the transmitter uses the smoothed cloc k. 2.6 OPERATING MODE SELECTIONS There are two data modes in which the interf ace passes data and timing: • Octet Mode —This mode preser ves the b yte integrity associated with Octet timing.
3.0 CONFIGURATION The Model 1082/F is equipped with 8 DIP s witches that enable configu- ration of the unit f or a v ariety of applications. This section describes s witch locations and e xplains the diff erent configurations .
Figure 5. DIP switches Figure 5 shows the orientation of the DIP s witches in the “ON” and “OFF” positions. Configuring DIP Switch S1 DIP s witch S1 is where y ou configure the units f or.
SW1-1 Octet Function. This s witch determines whether the modem will be set f or clear channel mode or Octet timing. The 1082/F can be used with either another 1082/F , a 1092A/F or a 1092ARC/C/OO modem from P atton. Howe v er , when used in Octet timing mode, the 1082/F must be used with another 1082/F .
SW1-6/7 Clock Mode. Use Switches S1-6 and S1-7 to configure the 1082 or Model 1082/144 f or internal, or receive recov er cloc k mode. Note Placing SW1-6 and SW1-7 in the OFF mode performs reset of the hardware/software .
4.0 INSTALLATION Once the Model 1082 has been configured, it is ready to connect to the twisted pair interf ace, to the 64K co directional interf ace , and to the power source . This section tells y ou how to mak e these connections. Figure 6. Model 1082/F Rear View 4.
The RJ-45 connector on the Model 1082’ s twisted pair interface is polar- ity insensitive and is wired f or a two-wire interface . The signal/pin rela- tionships are shown in Figure 7.
4.2 CONNECTING POWER The Model 1082 (all versions) are a v ailab le with Univ ersal A C (100– 240V A C), 120V A C , 230V AC or -48VDC pow er options. This section describes these options. Universal A C Po wer (100–240 V AC) The Model 1082 uses a 5VDC , 2A universal input 100-240V AC , power supply (center pin is +5V).
z W ARNING There are no user -serviceable parts in the power supply section of the Model 1082. Fuse replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Contact Patton Electronics T echnical support at +1 (301) 975-1007, via our web site at www .
5.0 OPERATION Once the Model 1082 is properly configured and installed, it should oper- ate transparently . This sections describes power-up , reading the LED status monitors, and using the b uilt-in loopback test modes .
5.3 T EST MODES The Model 1082 off ers two proprietar y loopback test modes , plus a built- in V .52 BER test patter n generator , to ev aluate the condition of the modems and the communication link. These tests can be activ ated ph ys- ically from the front panel, or via the interf ace.
Remote Digital Loopback (RDL) The Remote Digital Loopback (RDL) test chec ks the performance of both the local and remote Model 1082s, and the communication link betw een them. Any characters sent to the remote Model 1082 in this test mode will be returned back to the originating device (see Figure 12).
Using the V .52 (BER) test pattern generator T o use the V .52 BER tests in conjunction with the Remote Digital Loop- back tests (or with Local Line Loopbac k tests), do the f ollowing: 1. Locate the 511/511E toggle s witch on the front panel of the Model 1082 and set the toggle to the down position.
