Getting started 18 Getting star ted This section describes the tasks you must complete before you use your handse t. Use the following information to prep are your handset for use, and to familiarize .
Getting started 19 Figure 1: Battery pack To install a battery pack in your h andset, perf orm the follow ing steps: 1. Place the hand set face down on a flat surface. 2. Remove the ba ttery compartment cover. 3. Push the battery pack into the casing as show n in Figure 2 .

Getting started 23 fully charged. Charge th e batteries only using the DECT Handse t charger supplied w ith the ha ndset. Char ging guidelines Observe the following when yo u charge your handse t: • Charge the ba ttery for at least 6 ho urs before yo u use the handset for the first time.
Getting started 24 Char ging and operating times Discharged batteri es require 6 hours to comple tely recharge. Completely charged batterie s provide the handset with approximately 8 ho urs of talk time and 100 hour s of standby time. W ARNING Use only the batte ries that Nortel pr ovides or authorises.
Getting started 25 Char ge display A battery charge sta tus symbol appea rs on the di splay. When the batte ry is nearly discharged, the battery c harge status symbol fla shes and a warning to ne sounds . If you a re on a call when this ha ppens, the handset switches off after approximatel y 3 to 5 minutes.
Getting started 26 The following table shows the ba ttery charge status icons. Note: (4075 only) Y ou can configure the LED ind icator to flash when the handset battery is low . When you place the h andset on the charger , th e LED indic ator turn s off.

Getting started 45 Locking or unlocking the dialpad Use the dia lpad Lock feature to prevent accidental operation of the handset. When the Lock featur e is active and you receive an incomi ng call, the dialpad tempor arily unlocks so you can answer the call.

DECT system configuration 47 Subscribing the handset to a DECT system You must subscribe the hands et to at least one DECT system before you can use the handset to make a call. The handset can operate with a maximum of four DECT systems, for which the han dset stores the name of the system in a subscription r eco rd.

Contacts 93 Contacts You can use your handset to st ore contact number s and names. The Contacts menu allows you to store a ma ximum of 50 phone numb ers and names without a MEM card, or a maximum of 200 with an installed MEM card. You can search for na mes in th e Contact s list.

Attention: If more than one number is stored for the conta ct you select, select the number you want to edit; you cannot restore infor mation once you edit it.

Contacts 101 Speed dial feature Use the Speed dial feature to place calls by di alling a one-digit code. To dial a number using Speed dial, ensure that your handset is in idle mode and long press the key to which you assigne d the number.

Messaging 107 Message limitations The following limitations apply to the Messaging featur e: • With a MEM card installed, the system can store up to 80 messa ges. • You can send or receive messages if your handset is in range of a DECT system to which th e handset is subscribed.
