IP 8540 User Guide 7 2.2 AC/DC p ower adaptor The IP8540 ships with out an AC/DC p ower adaptor . The I P8540 LAN Ethernet port supports IEEE802.3af PoE (Power - over - Ethernet), so an external power supply is not needed if your Ethernet switch supports PoE class 3.

To wall mount IP8540 you will need to install two mounting screws arranged to fit in the mounting slots. #6 pan head screw s are recommended and should be anchored firmly into a wall stud or wall anchor.

IP 8540 User Guide 17 3.2 Controlling Presence (Phone Status) Your IP8540 sends updated status information to Office Communications Server at regular intervals or when the status changes. There may be times when you want to change your presence status.
IP 8540 User Guide 18 The following tabl e describes each presence indicator and the accompanying status text. Icon Status Text Description Available The contact is online and can participate in conversations. The user can set this presence level manually.
IP 8540 User Guide 19 3.3 Contact List From the contact list you can view contact infor mation, search for a contact in a group and call a contact. The status information in the contact list displays the availability of the contact. Icons indicate presence to the left of the contact ’ s name, and by text to the right.

( Note : The default phone number for all contacts is their work phone. For user ’ s that are UC enabled, when their work phone number is dialed, their IP phone will ring as well.
IP 8540 User Guide 21 3.3.3 Sele cting a Contact Group You can setup multiple contact lists or Contact Groups. You can select the Contact Group or all groups to display in the Contact window. To view a Contact Group • To the right of the Contacts box, tap the Contact Groups icon .
IP 8540 User Guide 22 3.4 Message Waiting In conjunction with Office Communication s Server 2007, Exchange 2007 provides voice mail services. The Message window control icon indicates how many new voice mails are waiting.
IP 8540 User Guide 23 3.5 Call Logs A log of your calls (missed, received, and placed) is available in the IP8540. Using IP8540, you may view and return calls from the Call Logs. IP8540 stores a maximum of 60 records in the log. You can manage the Call Logs from your desktop PC using Outlook.

IP 8540 User Guide 34 3.6.10 Switching Users Multiple users can use IP8540, but not concurrently. A user must sign out of the device before another user can sign in. In doing so, each user in dividually signs into the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.

IP 8540 User Guide 40 4. Making Calls with IP8540 4.1 Adjusting the handset and speakerphone volume The Volume Up / Down button control s ringer , handset and speaker volume. What the buttons control depends on the state of the device . The volume levels that you set are retained from one meeting to the nex t until you change them.

To make an outgoing phone call while the device is on the hook a) W ith the han dset on the hook, enter the phone number using the 10 - digit keypad.

IP 8540 User Guide 45 4.3 Forwarding Calls IP8540 has the ability to send incoming calls to an alternate destination, i.e. forward your calls. You d efine whe re to send c alls , voice mail , a contact or a phone number. Exchange 2007 is required for forwarding to voice mail.

The number is the contact ’ s work number by default, but can change based on the number most recently used to call the contact.
