- 6 - 1: Prod uct Overview 1.1 Network Cameras Network cameras are c losed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras that u se the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to transmit image data over an Ethernet or Wireless LAN connectio n. As such, net work cameras are also referr ed to as IP cameras.

- 11 - 4: Installation 4.1 Connecting to the Camera Connect the RJ 45 network ca ble from the ca mera’s LAN po rt to your network; e.g., the router or a LAN sw itch, then power on the camera.
- 12 - 4.1.1 Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 Insert the Inst allation CD into the CD o r DVD-Driv e. After a few moments, the CD will automatica lly start and display the screen b elow. If that does not happen, you need to browse the CD w ith Windows Explorer and double-click the autoru n.
- 13 - IP Installer for Windows Installation Before you start wi th the installa tion, make sure that you are connec ted to your computer with a user ac count that has administ rator rights. The screen shots below are taken from an installation o n a Windows XP syste m.
- 14 - Specify the loca tion where the program s hould be insta lled. The default p ath is OK to be used on most systems. Clic k on “Browse…” to select a different location and c lick on “Next” to continue. Select the Windows Start Menu folder .
- 15 - Verify the insta llation su mmary and cl ick “Insta ll” to begin the installat ion. Once the insta llation has com pleted, click on “Finish”. A new shortcut has been crea ted on your computer desktop; Doubl e-click it to sta rt the applica tion.
- 16 - IP Installer for Windows When the program starts, yo u are presented with the s creen shown below. Depending on your camera model, the sc reen may look slightly different, but the functionalit y is the same. The IP I nstaller utility lists a ll cameras that can be found on your network.
- 17 - Setup: Select a camera fro m the list and click th e Setup button in order to open the camera configuration dialog. Upgrade: Select a camera from the li st and click the Upgrade button if you wish to upgrade the firmware of the camera . The firmware upgrade can also be performed with your Web browser.
- 18 - User Account S ettings Page User Name: Enter the user name you wish to use for the new accoun t. Password: Enter the password for the new user account. Confirm: Type the password in again. Mode: There are three possibl e values to choose from: 1.
- 19 - Date/Time Settings P age The network camera is equipped with an internal clo ck. You can display the current date and time information on th e video, so that when you look at recorded video material or images you can easily tell when the recording was made.
- 20 - Network Settin gs Page The default configuratio n is shown above, and for most users there should be no need to change the se settings. Advanced users can change the follow ing values: HTTP Port: This is the Web server po rt of the camera. The defa ult value is 80.
- 21 - PPPoE Settings Page This page allows defini ng of the PPPoE setti ngs of the camera. This fu nction is not required for the vast majority of users, and if you are not planning o n connecting the camera directly to a DSL modem (no n etwork present, j ust the camera connects directly to the mode m) you can s afely skip th is page.
- 22 - DDNS Settings Page DDNS stands for “Dyn amic DNS.” DDNS is useful for all users w ho have an Internet service with a dynamic IP a ddr ess. Most DSL ser vices utiliz e IP addresses that are highly dyn amic and ch ange as often as once every 24 hours.
- 23 - Language Settings Page The Intellinet network ca mera provides a multi-language user interfa ce for Web-browser acce ss. In order to use this function, y ou first need to install the additional languages by up loading them to the ca mera. The default lang uage is English.
- 24 - Apply Settings Page This is the last page of the Setup. All configurat ion changes yo u have made on the pr evious sc reens will be s aved when you click the Apply butt on. If you have selected an a dditional language to be installed on the previous p age, clicking A pply will insta ll that language as well.
- 25 - 5. Will the batte ry in my notebook last for at le ast another 10 minutes? 6. Is the camera I want to upgr ade loca ted in my local network? 7. Am I sure about what I am doing? If you answer any of these questio ns with “no,” you should not perform the firmware upgrade and skip this section.
- 26 - User tab This screen offers two functions: 1. You can change the ind ividual settings of the camera in a similar fashion as with the Setup funct ion on the main s c reen.
- 27 - About tab This screen displays the version number an d date of the IP Installer utility. If you need to contact the I ntellinet Technical Support , make sure that you obtain the information from this page and include it in your message to Technical Support.
- 28 - When you con nect to the Int ellinet netw ork camera for the first time with MS Internet Explorer, you need t o install an ActiveX control. The following message appears: Click on Install t o being the installation . Depending on your system, additional messages may appear; e.
- 29 - 4.1.2 MacOS The installation on Appl e systems ru nning MacOS X does not involve the Intellinet insta llation CD. The Inte llinet netw ork camera supports Apple’s Bonjour service. Bonjour, formerly Rendezvous, is Apple Inc.'s trade name for its i mplem entation of Zeroconf, a service discovery protocol.
- 30 - 2. The Network Camera is shown in the category Webpages. In order to connect to the cam era, double-click the ci rcled link. Safari then co nnects to the camera and the message below appears: 3. Type in “admin” for the user name and t he password, then click on Log In .
- 31 - 4.1.3 Linux The installatio n on Linux systems does not require any special softw are. The networ k camera is compatible to Web browsers such as Firefox and Konqueror. The initial ins tallation r equires the se tup of the camera’s IP address.
- 32 - 5: Web Browser Interface 5.1 Live Video Page Use this button to take a snapshot of the video. Clicking the button opens up a window showing the captured frame. Save the image by click ing on the Save I mage bu tton. Note: This function is only available in MS Internet Explo rer on Windows system s.
- 33 - Click on the Record button, if you wish to record the live video to your computer’s hard drive. When selected, a prompt will request yo u to specify th e folder in which you want to store the video. Click OK to begin the recording. The Record button starts flashin g, indicating that the recording is active.
- 34 - The digital zoom fun ction allows mag nificati on of certain ar eas of the video. After you click on the magnif ication icon, a window appears as an overlay on top of the image. See be low. You can drag the box over the image, and yo u can adjust the magnification by moving th e slider toward “T” (tele-zoom) or “W” (wide-angle).
- 35 - This button takes you back to the camera ho me page where you can view the live v ideo. Click on this butto n to op en the administrator menu page, which allows configurin g the camera. This button opens up the inte grated online h elp providing useful tips on the various features.
- 36 - 5.2 Settings Page (Administrator Menu) The camera’s administra tor menu allows you to configure all aspe cts of your Intellinet network camera.
- 37 - Highlight an ac count to eith er edit or remove it. Note that the admin us er account canno t be removed. Anonymous Setting s Enabling this will allow any user to view the live video from the camera live video page without entering a user name or password.
- 38 - Network - TCP/IP On this page you can define the ne twork settings of the camera. By default the camera is set up to au tomatically obta in the necessary IP information from the DHCP server (e.g., the router) in your ne twork. You can, however, set up the IP address and related se ttings man ually.
- 39 - Network - PPPoE You can use this func tion to connect th e ca mera directly to a DSL modem. A common application for this is where the networ k camera is instal led in a remote location where no network is pres ent. In the location is a DSL Internet connection ( DSL modem), but no router or any other netw ork infrastructure.
- 40 - Date Time On this page you can define th e time settings of t he camera. Current da te/time: Displays the camera’s current time. PC clock: This is the date and ti me of the computer you are currently u sing to connect to the camera. Date/Time format: The format determines how the date/time is display ed on the live video.
- 41 - Video – Video Settings The following three menus (Video Settin gs, Profile and Day /Night) allowing defining all vid eo-related parameter s. Note tha t the Day/Nigh t option as well as other parameters may not be available on all models. Image Rotated : Allows mirroring and rotating the image.
- 42 - Text Color: Choose between black or whi te. Background color: Select from either black, white or transparent. Display Positi on: Define where the overlay should appear on the live image. Privacy maskin g is the abili ty of the came ra to back out (censor) certa in parts of the live video.
- 43 - As you can create mult iple masks, you need to provide a name for the mask, and you can define which color you want to ov erlay to be. Fina lly, set the sta tus to “Enabled” and cl ick “Save” to crea te and activate the pri vacy mask.
- 44 - Encoding: Your Inte llinet network camera can encode video in three differ ent formats. H.264 is the most advanced and efficient c odec delivering excellent image quality and a small video str eam size at the sa me time. Nor mally, this i s your preferred choice.
- 45 - Maximum frame rate: Type in the num ber of frames the ca mera should generate per second of video. The hig h er the value, the smoother t he video, but the more ba ndwidth is goi ng to be required.
- 46 - “Night Mode” – This is the opposite o f the day mo de. If this mode is enabled, the camera always removes the IR cut f ilt er. As a result, the camera will always be IR sensitive, re gardless of the actual light le vels.
- 47 - 5.2.2 Live View The live view menu provid es access to the video settings, which are exac tly the same as d escribed in the last section (5. 2.1). It also provides access to advanc ed image settings and al lows configuring the view areas that we discussed in t he previous sectio n.
- 48 - Exposure Frequency: There are four values: “Auto ,” “50Hz,” “60Hz” and “Hold Current.” If your camera is installed so that it’s facing outside , you should se lect “Auto.” If your camera is installed indoors, you must sele ct the appropriate light frequency (either 50 or 60 Hz; e.
- 49 - Some Intellinet network c ameras are equi pped with a motorized iris. In optics, an iris is a thin opaque structure with an openi ng (aperture) at its center. The role of the diaphragm is to stop the passage of light, except for the light passing through the aperture.
- 50 - Camera Settings – View Settings A view area is a cropped part of the enti re image. Each view area is treated as a video source with its own v ideo stream. There are 4 areas that can be set up with different resolutions. When you define a profile (section 5.
- 51 - 5.2.3 Playback The Intellinet network ca me ra offers an integrated playback feature, which al lows play ing back videos from your local HDD, from a network storage server or the optional SD s torage card. Note that vi deo playback is limite d to computer systems running Windows an d MS Internet Explorer.
- 52 - There are two folders: “Event” whi ch is for event-triggered recordings, e.g., motion detection aler ts, and “Schedu le” which contains rec ordings that th e camera recorded if scheduled recording is enabled. Refer to the se ction 5.2.4 Event” for more deta ils on the se tup.

- 54 - 5.2.4 Event Your Intellinet network camer a supports so-called events. When an event occurs, you ca n have the camera perform an action, e.g., record a vide o to a remote location. T his section descr ibes how to set up even t servers, event s, motion detection an d the sch eduler.
- 55 - 2. How to add a SMTP Server: Server Type: Select “SMT P.” Mail Server: Type in the ad dress of your mail server. Do not type in leading smtp:// or http://. Server Port: Adjust the server port if necessary. Port 25 is standard, but your server may be using different values (not so uncommon the se days as an anti- spam measure).
- 56 - 4. Adding a Network Storage Server Type: Select “Network Storage.” Type: Select a valid type for your network storage (either Wind ows SMB or Linux NFS). Network Storage Location: Enter the address of your local storage server as shown on th e right.
- 57 - Event List Now that we have created an Event Server, we can proceed wit h setting up actual events. Click on th e “Add” button to b egin. You need to specify the trigger type . The drop-down list below shows the available optio ns. Note that d epending on yo ur camera model , the options wi ll vary.
- 58 - Onboot This is a one-time even t that is trigg ered after the camera has restarted . IR Cut Filter This trigger event beco mes active whenev er the camera enters the nigh t mode and has remo ved the IR cut filter. For example you can have the ca mera send you an email informing yo u about this even t.
- 59 - Item Descrip tion Send Image Instructs the camera to send out images . When selected, you need to spe cify whether you want to use FTP, network storage or SD card. You may need to set up these serve rs first (see prev iou s section) in order to use them here.
- 60 - Motion Detection The Intellinet network camera is able to monitor the video f ootage for movements and trigg er an alert if motion has been de tected. This mot ion detection does not utilize pas sive infrared , but instead it relies on a frame by frame comparison of the video footage the camera capture s.
- 61 - Schedule The Network Camera supports event tr i gger actions that can be based o n a schedule. This can be used, as an example, to only activate motion detec tion between 9 pm and 6 am during business days and around the clo ck on the weekends.
- 62 - 5.2.5 System The system menu provid es access to a variety of system setting s of your Intellinet network ca mera. Maintenance - Restart You can restart the network camera by hitting the restart button. Set Auto Restart to “O n” if you wish to reboot the camera automatically, and then you specify the reboot mode.
- 63 - The following message will appear: Click “OK” to continue. Another message will appear: Click on “Cancel” to abort the operation. C lick on “OK” to s tart the upgrade process. You will see the follow ing messages: Note: You may see additiona l messages at this stag e.
- 64 - Date Time - Current Date / Time Refer to section 5.2.1. Security - Account Refer to section 5.2.1. Security - IP Address Filter Once you enabled it, th e listed IP address are al lowed or denied access to the network camera. Add the IP address that you’d like to al low or deny, sel ect allow or deny from the list and save it.
- 65 - Network Advanced - RTSP General RTP Port Range: The default value of port range is 5000 ~ 7999 and can be changed from 1124 to 65534. RTSP Port: RTSP stands for Real Time Streaming Protocol. RTSP is supported by most media clients, such as Real P layer, VLC an d QuickTime.
- 66 - Multicast: Here the initial str eam is sent to the router only, w hich crea tes optimal d istributi on paths for datagrams sen t to a multica st destination address. Whethe r one or 300 PCs are connected to th e video stream does no t matter. The bandwid th and load of the loca l camera is unaffected.
- 67 - Network Advanced - UPNP UPnP stands for Universal Plug and Play . A UPnP-enabled device, such as your network camera, announces its presence in the loca l network to other computers that support UPnP as well. The op erating system s Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7/8 suppor t UPnP.
- 68 - Network Advanced - Bonjour UPnP Bonjour is a service that, just like UPnP, hel ps to find the netw ork camera on the network. Bonjour is available fo r Windows, but is more commonly used for MacOS. Refer to section “4.1.2 MacOS” for additional information on the usage.
- 69 - If the router in your home network is equipped with a DDNS client, we recommend using the router instead of the camera. Mos t SOHO routers are equipped with a DDNS client and since the r outer is in dir ect control of ha ndling the Internet conne ction, it’s the device best su ited for the DDNS task .
- 70 - Digital I/O If your Intellin et network ca mera is eq uipped with a digital I/O interface, you can configure the con nections on this pag e. The screen sho ws the curren t status of input 1 & 2 and output 1 & 2. Th e screen also allows you to define the “normal” state of the port.
- 71 - System Log The Network Camera features a log func tion for system message s. These are system messages abou t the camera start-u p procedure, e-mail d eliveries, FTP uploads, motion det ection and more. T he camera stores th e messages in it s internal memory and displays them on the system log screen.
- 72 - The remote log function us es the Syslog Protocol, which is a standard for forwarding log messages in an IP network. Syslog is a client/server protocol. The Syslog sender (the Network Camera) sends a s mall (less tha n 1KB) textual message to the Syslog server.
- 73 - 6: Video Surveillance Software 6.1 Function Description The Intellinet Network Came ra ships with a su rveillance application that can monitor and record up to 16 network cameras.
- 74 - 7: Questions and Answers 9.1 Accessing the Camera Q: What are the camera’s default IP a ddress, administrator user name and password? A: The camera obtains an IP address from a DHCP server in your network. If no DHCP server is present, the came ra reverts back to its d efault IP address 192.
- 75 - A: Whenever you change the Web server port from the standard 80 to a different value, you need to append th e port to the camera's IP address. The syntax is al ways http://came raip:portnumbe r. Example: Wh en you change the Web server port to 81, the correct address would be: http://192.
- 76 - 9.3 Camera Related Issues Q: The camera does not send any e-mails. Why ? A: 1. The problem occurs because the ca mera cannot contact t he e-mail server.
