1 I NTRODUCTION Orbit ® is an aggressive, omnidirectional laser bar code scanner. Lightweight and rugged, Orbit is small in size, but BIG in performance. Designed for applications where counter space is limited, Orbit is the ideal presentation scanner for retail, convenience, liquor and specialty stores.

4 I NST A LLATION FOR RS232, OCIA AND IBM 46XX I NTERFACES 1. Turn of f the host system . 2. Plug the male 10- pin RJ45 end of the PowerLink c able into the 10-pin jack on the MS7120. 3. Connect the 9 pin fem ale end of the PowerLink c able to the host device.
5 I NSTALLA TION FOR K EYBOA RD W EDGE I NTERFACE 1. Turn of f the PC/Host. 2. Connect the m ale 10-pin RJ45 end of the PowerLink c able to the jack on the MS7120. 3. Connect the L-shaped plug of the power supply into the pow er jack on the PowerLink c able.
6 I N S T A LL A T I ON FO R S T A N D A LONE K EYB O A RD I N T ERF A CE 1. Turn of f the host system . 2. Plug the male 10- pin RJ45 end of the PowerLink c able into the 10-pin jack on the MS7120. 3. Connect the PowerLink c able to the keyboard port on the host system.
7 I NSTA LLA TION N OTES FOR USB I NT ERFA CE Metrologic’s MX 009 USB cable is a device that conver ts serial RS232 form atted data to either USB Keyboard or USB Point-of Sale com munica tion protocol.
8 S CANNER P ART S Red LED On a succ essful r ead of a bar code, the red LED will turn ON . After c omm unication to the host is c omplete, the red LED will turn OFF . Refer to Visual Indicator s and Audible Indicators for additional inform ation. Green LED During norm al operation, the green LED is ON .
9 A UDIBLE I NDICATORS When the MS7120 scanner is in operation, it provides audible feedback. These sounds indicate the status of the scanner. Eight settings are available for the tone of the beep (normal, 6 alternate tones and no tone). To change the tone, refer to the MetroSelect ® Programming Guide ( MLPN 00-02407B) or the MetroSet2 help files.
10 V ISUAL I NDICA T ORS There is a red LED and a green LED on the head of the MS7120. W hen the scanner is on, the flashing or cons tant illumination of the LEDs indicates the status of the current s can and the scanner. No Red or Green LE D The LEDs will not be illuminated if the sc anner is not receiving power from the host or transf orm er.
11 F A ILURE M ODES Flashing Gree n and One Razzber ry Tone This indicates the scanner has experienced a laser subsystem f ailure. Return the unit for r epair at an authorized service center . Flashing R ed and Green and T w o Ra zz be rr y Tones This indicates the scanner has experienced a m otor failure.
12 L ABELS Each scanner has three labels on the bottom of the unit. These labels contain information such as; the model number, date of manufacture, serial number, laser class and caution statements. The following illustrations show the location and content of the three labels.
