7 Introduction The EPSON USB/P arallel Adapter allows you to use smart cable technology to connect y our EPSON pr inter to your Apple iMac or Windows ® 98 computer . I t suppor ts the following printers: Note: The USB/P arallel Adapter suppor ts the EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 for Macintosh only .
8 Setting Up the Printer If you’v e been using your EPSON printer with your computer , the pr inter is probably set up already . If so , turn it off and disconnect it from the computer . Then go to the section explaining how to connect the cable to y our system.
9 F or instructions on using the printer software, see the follo wing: ◗ If you ha ve an EPSON Stylus COLOR 440 or EPSON Stylus COLOR 640, locate the electronic EPSON Stylus COLOR 440/640 Driver Software Guide f or Macintosh in the Manual directory on your USB Printer Software CD-ROM.
10 Connecting the Cable Y ou can connect the USB/P arallel Adapter directly to a USB por t on your iMac or to a USB hub connected to a por t on the iMac. If you hav e any printing problems when the pr inter is connected via a USB hub , tr y connecting the printer direct ly to the USB por t on the iM ac instead.
11 T o connect the adapter to one of the USB por ts on the iMac keyboard, hold the adapter’ s USB connector so the icon faces aw ay from y ou and connect it to the US B por t. If you’ re using a USB hub, plug it into the USB por t on the iMac ke yboard, then connect the adapter to an av ailable USB por t on the hub.
12 2 Connect the adapter’s parallel connector to the para llel port on the back of the printer, then secure it with th e wire clips. 3 Now follow the instru ctions in the next section to install the printer driver software from the USB/Parallel Adapter CD-ROM.
13 Installing the USB Printer Software IMPORT ANT: Y ou can’t use the adapter with the printer driver software that came with your printer . Y ou must use the printer driver software that came on the USB Printer Software CD-ROM. Before y ou begin this pr ocedure, you m ust install the iMac Update 1.
14 8 Click the printer icon for your printer. Printer icons are labeled as follows: ◗ SC 440 (EPSON Stylus COLOR 440) ◗ SC 600 (EPSON Stylus COLOR 600) ◗ SC 640 (EPSON Stylus COLOR 640) ◗ SPEX.

19 Installing the USB Printer Software If you’v e already installed printer dr iver softw are f or your printer , you need to delete the old pr inter dr iver’ s INF file bef ore you install the USB printer driver . Begin with the instructions on the next page, “Deleting the INF file f or the old printer dr iver”.
20 Deleting the INF file for the old printer driver 1 Click Start , point to Programs , and select Windows Explorer . 2 Open your Windows directory. If you see an Inf folder, go to step 5. Otherwise, continue with step 3. 3 From the Windows Explorer View menu, select Folder Options .
21 5 Open the Inf folder, then locate and select the INF file corresponding to your installed printer driver: 6 Click Del ete to delete the old printer d river’s INF file. Close Windows Explorer. Now y ou’ re ready to install the USB pr inter dr iver softw are.
22 Installing the USB printer driver software Don’t install the printer driver software that came with y our printer . Yo u can’t use this driver software with y our USB/Par allel adapter. Howe ver , you can use the USB printer software to connect the prin ter to your computer via the parallel por t, if you w ant.
23 4 Select Specify a loca tion , then click Browse to locate the USB printe r software. The softwa re is located in yo ur printer’s folder on th e CD-ROM .
24 5 Click Next . The Add New Ha rdware Wizard now displays EPSON USB Conversion Cable . 6 Click Next . The installer copies th e USB printer files to your system.
25 Windows 98 detects your printer and displays a screen similar to the follo wing: 7 Click Nex t to install your printer driver. At the next screen, select Search for the best driver for your device and click Next .
26 8 Follow the on-screen instructions to install your printer driver. Be sure to click the Yes radio button to set your printer as the Windows d efault printer. At the last scree n, click Finish . 9 When you see a message that installation is complete, click OK .
27 Installing creative software If your printer came with creative software, f ollow these steps to install it: 1 Locate the software installation inst ructions that came with your printer. (They may be in a document called Start Here , Getting Started , or Quick Setup .
28 3 Continue with the instructi ons to install your crea tive software applications. 4 When you’ve finished in stalling the creative softw are, restart your system. Checking your installation T o verify that your USB softw are installed proper ly , check the Device Manager .
29 If the printer do esn’t work correctly , uninstall the USB p rinter dr iver software. (Use the procedure described in your printer documentation for uninstalling the printer dr iver .) Then reinstall the USB printer dr iver software as described in “Installing the USB printer dr iver software” on page 22 of this guide.

31 Appendix A: Using Monitor3 The Monitor3 utility lets you continue to work on your iMac while your document is printing (though printing and processin g may be slower). The Monitor3 dialog box lets you check on your print jobs and cancel, pause, or restart them.
32 Monitoring Print Jobs with Mon itor3 While you’re printing, click th e EPSON Monitor3 icon on the Application menu at the right end of the menu bar.
33 To set priorities for jobs waiti ng to print, click the job, the n click the Show details arrow at the bottom of the window.
