4 I-4. Safety Informatio n In order to ensure the saf e operation of the device and it s users, please read and act in accordance with the fol lowing safety in structions. 1. The device is de signed for indoor use only; do n ot place it outdoor s. 2. Do not place th e device in or near hot/humid pl aces, such as a kitchen or bathroom.
5 II. Installation 1. Pl ug the included power adap ter into the devic e’s DC power port an d the other end into an electrical socket. 2. Ensure tha t the Wi- Fi On/Off switch i s set to on and t hat three LEDs (power, 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi -Fi) display on.
6 3. Use a Wi -Fi devic e (e.g. computer, tab let, smartphone) to search fo r a Wi -Fi n etwor k with the SSID “ edimax .s etup” and conn ect to it .
7 The BR- 6208AC’s fi ve available modes are out lined below: Wi -Fi Router Mode The device connects to your modem and provides 2.4GHz and/or 5GHz Internet (wireless and Ethernet) access for your network devices. Access Point Mode The device connects to an existing router via Ethernet cable and provides 2.

9 3. Please wait a moment while the BR -6208AC tests the connection. 4. Click “Next” to co ntinue and confi gure the d evice’s wireless netwo rk. 5. Enter a name and passwo rd for your 2.4GHz & 5GHz wirele ss networks, then click “Next” to continue.
10 6. A summary of your configu ration will be displayed, as shown below. Check that all of t he details are correct and t hen click “Next” to proc eed. If you wish to backup the device’s settings, click “ Backup this configuration” to open a new window and save your current configuration to a .

13 II -2. Ac cess Po int Mode 1. Select “Access Point ” from the top menu and click “Next”. 2. Connect the yello w LAN port of yo ur BR -6208 AC to the LAN po rt of you r existing router using an Ethernet cab le, then click “Next ”. 3. Select whether to use the 5GHz wireless frequency, 2.

18 II - 3. Range Extender Mode 1. Select “ Range Extender ” fr om the top menu a nd click “Next ”. 2. Please ensure your BR -620 8A C i s within Wi -Fi range of your exi sting wireless router. Click “Next” t o c ontinue. 3. Select whether to use the 5GHz wireless frequ ency, 2.
19 4. Select the Wi-Fi networ k name (SSID) which you wish to connect t o for the specified frequen cy and cli ck “Next” to continue. If the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect to does not appear, try clicking “Refresh”.
20 5. Enter your existing wireless netw ork’s security key /password in the “Security Key” field and click “Next” to continue. 6. Wait a moment whil e the BR-6208AC tests t he wireless connection.
21 7. Select “Obtain an IP a ddress automati cally” or “Use th e following IP address” for your BR -6208AC. If you are using a static IP , enter the IP address, subnet m ask and default ga teway. Click “Next” to proceed to the next step. “Obtain an IP address automatically” is the recommended setting for most users.

25 II -4. Wirel ess Bridge Mode 1. Select “Wireless Bridge” from the t op menu and cl ick “Next ”. 2. Please ensure your BR- 6208AC is within Wi -Fi range of your existing wireless router. Click “Next” to continue. 3. Select the frequency (2.
26 4. Select the Wi-Fi networ k name (SSI D) which you wish to connect to and click “Next” to con tinue. If the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect to does not appear, try clicking “Refresh”. To connect to a hidden SSID, check the “Setup extender manually” box and enter the details manually on the next page, as shown below.

31 II -5. WISP Mode 1. Select “WISP” from the top menu and cli ck “Next”. 2. Please ensure your BR- 6208AC is within Wi -Fi range of your WISP network a nd click “Next” to continue. 3. Select wheth er to use the i Q Setup wizard (reco mmended) to d etect you r Internet connectio n type, or enter th e settings manually.
32 Manual configuration is only recommended for advanced users. 4. Select the wireless frequen cy (2.4GHz or 5GHz ) of your WISP n etwork. 5. Select the WISP SSID which you wish to conne ct to and cli ck “Next” to continue. If the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect to does not appear, try clicking “Refresh”.
33 To connect to a hidden SSID, chec k the “Setup extender manually” box and enter the details manually on the next page, as shown below. 6. Enter your existing wireless netw ork’s security key /password in the “Security Key” field and click “Next” to continue.

35 9. Wait a moment whil e the BR-6208AC conn ects to the Int ernet. 10. When the Internet is connected, clic k “Next” to confi gure your wireless network.

39 II -6. WPS Setup If your wireless device supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) then you can use thi s method to connect to the BR -6208 AC ’s Wi -Fi network. 1. Press the WPS button on the BR-6208AC for 2 – 5 seconds to activate WPS. The WLAN LED will be lighted on to indicate that WPS is active.
40 III. Browser Based Configuration Interface After you have setup the BR - 6208 AC as deta iled in II. Install ation or the included Quic k Instal lation Guide , you can use the bro wser based configuration int erface to configure advanced sett ings.

42 III- 2. Save Settings 1. Aft er you configure any setting s, click the “Save Setti ngs” button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes. The device needs to restart in order to bring any changes into effect. 2. Then, click “ c li ck here to resta rt” in order to restart th e device and bring the changes into ef fect.
43 III- 3. Main Menu The mai n menu di splays diff erent options depending on your device’s operating mode. For Range Extender mode: WPS please refer to 2.
44 III-3-1. Status The “Status” page di splays basic s ystem infor mation about the device, arranged into cat egories. Screenshots displayed are examples.
45 III-3-2. Setup Wizard You can run the set up wizard again to reconfi g ure the basic settings of t he device, o r you can run a wizard t o help you switch the device to a different operati ng mode.
46 3. Follow the on-scr een wizard to setup your devic e in a different mode. Refer to II. Installation Step 3 onwar ds for help if needed. If you don’t see the “Get Started” screen, try reconnecting to the edimax.setup SSID and go to http://edimax.
47 III-3-3. Internet/WISP The “Internet” menu provide s access to WAN and DDNS settings. Cl ick on an item from the submenu to view and/or configure the s ettings. In WISP mode, the screen below will be displayed: Enable / Disable Enable or disable your WISP conn ection.
48 III-3-3-1. WAN Setup Select a Wide Area Network (WAN) connection mode a nd conf igure the settings. If you are unsure about your connection t ype, contact you r ISP. In WISP mode, only Dynamic IP , Static IP & PPPoE are available for WAN Connection Mode .
49 Host Name Enter the host name of your computer. MAC Address For some applicat ions, you may need to designate a specific MAC ad dress for the router. Please enter th e MAC addre ss here. If you are connectin g the router to a c omputer, press “Clone Mac” to automaticall y enter your computer’s MAC a ddress.
50 Fixed IP Ad dress I nput the IP address assigned by your ISP here. Subnet Mask I nput the subnet mask assign ed by your ISP here. Default Gateway Address I nput the default gateway assigned by your ISP here. Some ISP s may call t his “ Default Route ”.
51 III-3-3-1-3. PPPoE S elect “PPPoE” if your ISP is providing you Internet acc ess via PPPoE (Point- to -Point Protocol ove r Ethernet). User Name Enter the user na me assigned by your ISP here. Password En ter the password assigned by your ISP here.

57 III- 3-3-2. DDNS Dynamic DNS (DD NS) is a service which provides a host name- to -IP service for dynamic IP users. The changing nat ure of dynamic IPs means that it can be difficult to access a service pr ovided by a dynamic IP user; a DDNS service though can map such dyna mic IP address es to a fixed host name, for easier access.

59 III-3-4 . LAN You can configure your L ocal Area Network (LAN ) on this page. You can enabl e the router to dynamical ly allocate IP address es to your LAN clie nts, and you can modify the IP addr ess of the device. Th e device’s default IP address is 192.
60 Start IP Enter the start IP a ddress for the DHC P server’s IP address leases. End IP Enter the end IP address fo r the DHCP server’s IP address leases. Your device’s DHCP server can be configured to assign static (fixed) IP addresses to specified network devices, identified by their unique MAC address.

62 III-3-5 . 2.4GHz W ireless & 5GHz W ireless The “2.4GHz Wireless” & “5GHz Wireless” menu all ows you to configure SSI D and security setti ngs for your Wi -Fi networ k along with a guest Wi-Fi n etwork. WPS, access control and scheduli ng functions can al so be managed from her e.
63 act as a standard wireless access poi nt, or select “AP Bridge - WDS” f or the device to function in WDS mode (see b elow). Band Displays the wireless sta ndard used for the BR -6208 AC’s “2. 4GHz (B+G+N)” means that 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.
64 AP Bridge-WDS: Wireless Distribution System (WDS ) can bridge/repeat access point s together in an extended net work. WDS setting s can be configure d as shown below.
65 Wireless Security: Select an encryption t ype from the d rop-down menu: “WPA Pre - shared Key” is the recommended and most secure encryption type. In WISP mode, WPA RADIUS is unavailable for the wireless band that is used to connect to WISP ’ s AP .
66 III-3-5-1-1. Disable Encryption is disab led and no passwo rd/key is required to connect to the BR -6208 AC . Disabling wireless encryption is not recommended. When disabled, anybody within range can connect to your device’s SSID. Enable 802.1x Authentication Check the box to ena ble the 802.
67 III-3-5-1-2. WEP WEP (Wired Equiv alent Privacy) is a basic encrypti on type. For a hi gher level of security consider using WPA encryption. Key Length Select 64 -bit or 128-bit.
68 III-3-5-1-3 . WPA Pre-Shared K ey WPA pre-shared key is the recomme nded and most sec ure encryption type. WPA Unicast Cipher Suite Select from WPA (TKIP), WPA 2 (AES) or WPA2 Mixed. WPA2 (AES ) is safer than WPA (TKIP) , but not supported by al l wireless clients.
69 III-3-5-1-4. WPA Radius WPA RADIUS is a combinat ion of WP A encryption an d RADIUS user authentication. If you have a RADIUS authenti cation server, you can authenticate the identity of every wi reless client against a user datab ase. WPA Unicast Cipher Suite Select from WPA (TKIP), WPA 2 (AES) or WPA2 Mixed .
70 III-3-5-2. Guest/ Multiple SSID You can setup an addi tional “Guest” Wi -Fi n etwork so guest users can enjoy Wi -Fi connecti vity without accessing your primary network. Th e “Guest” screen displays set tings for your gues t Wi -Fi network.
71 BR -6208 AC ’s freq uency band: 2. 4GHz (B+G+N): Allows 802.1 1b, 802.11g, and 802.11 n wireless clients to connect to t he BR -6208 AC . Channel Number Channel number f or the guest netw ork is the same as the main SSID and cannot b e adjusted independently.
72 Multiple SSID Use the drop down menu to select w hich SSID ( numbered 1 – 4) to configure. Wireless Network Name (SSID) Enter a reference/I D name to sepa rate your wireless network. Enable Multiple SSID Check/uncheck this box to ena ble/disable the specified SSID.
73 III-3-5- 3. WPS Wi -Fi Protected Setup is a simple way to estab lish connections betwe en WPS compatible devices. WPS can b e activated on compat ible devices by pushi ng a WPS button on th e device or from wit hin the device’s firmware/confi guration interface.

75 MAC address Select a PC name f rom the drop -down list and click “>>” to ad d e nter it into the bla nk field to the right. Click “Refresh’ in t he drop -down menu to refresh the list of avail able MAC addresses. If the address you wish to a dd is not listed, ente r it manually.
76 III-3-5-5. Schedule The schedule feature allows you to automate the wirel ess radio to switch on/off at specified times. Multipl e schedules can be configu red. Check/uncheck th e box “Enable Schedule Setti ngs” to enable/disable the wireless on/off schedul ing function.
77 Add Add the schedule to th e table of active schedules. Active schedules wil l be displayed in the table as sho wn below. Select a n entry using the “Select” checkbox.
78 III-3-6. Firewall The “ Firewall ” menu p rovides access to URL blo cking , access control, D MZ and DoS fun ctions to improve the security of your wireless netwo rk. SPI firewall Enable or disable the Sta teful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall .
79 URL/Keyword Enter the URL or keyword to b e blocked. Add Add the URL or ke yword to the block ed table. Blocked URLs/keywords entries will be li sted in the table a s shown below. Select an entry usi ng the “Select” ch eckbox. Delete Selected / Delete All Delete selected or all entries from th e table.
80 III-3-6- 2. Access Control Access Control (MAC filtering) can also be c onfigured from III -3-5-4. Access Control . Access Control is a secu rity feature that can hel p to prevent unauthoriz ed users from connect ing to your wireless router.
81 MAC Filtering: Enable MAC Filtering Check the box to e nable MAC filt ering and select whether to “Deny” or “Al low” access fo r specified MAC add ress. Client PC MAC Address Enter a MAC addr ess of compute r or network device manually wi thout dashes or colon s e.
82 IP Filtering: Enable IP Filtering Check the box to e nable IP filtering and select whether to “Deny” or “Allow” access for specified IP address. Add PC Opens a new wind ow to add a new I P to the list, to deny or allow access/s ervices according to above.
83 Client PC Description Enter a description f or reference/identi fication of up to 16 alphanumeric chara cters. Client PC IP address Enter a starting I P address in the left field and the end IP address in the right field to define a range of IP addresses ; or enter an IP address in the left field only to define a single IP ad dress.
84 III-3-6-3. DMZ A Demilitarized Zone (DMZ ) is an isol ated area in your l ocal network where private IP address es are mapped to specified I nternet IP addresses, all owing unrestricted acces s to the private IP addresse s but not t o the wider local network.
85 DMZ entries will be displ ayed in the tab le shown below: Delete Selected/ Delete All Delete selected or all entries from th e table. III-3-6-4. DoS Denial- of -Service (DoS) is a common form of malicious attack agai nst a network. The rout er ’ s firewall can pr otect against such at tacks.
86 Ping of Death Specify the frequency of ping of deat h packets which will trigger the route r’s DoS protecti on function. Discard Ping from WAN Check this box and the router will not an swer ping requests from the I nternet. Port Scan Intruders use “port scanners” to detect open Internet IP address ports.
87 III-3- 7. QoS Quality of Service (QoS) is a feat ure to manage Internet bandwidth eff iciently. Some ap plicatio ns require more bandwidt h than others to fu nction properly, and QoS allows you to ensu re that sufficient bandwidth is ava ilable. Minimum or maximum bandwi dth can b e guaranteed for a specified appli cation.
88 Rule Name Enter a name for the QoS r ule for reference/identificati on. Bandwidth Set the bandwidth l imits for the Qo S rule: (1) (2) (3) 1. Select “Download” or “Upload” for the QoS rule. 2. Enter the bandwid th limit . 3. Select wheth er the bandwidt h is a “Guarantee” (minimum ) or “Max” (maximum).
89 Local Port Range Enter the port range to activate the QoS rule. Enter a single port numbe r e.g. 110 or a range of port numbers e.g. 110- 120 Remote IP Address Enter the remote IP a ddress range whi ch will activate the QoS rul e.
90 III-3-7-2. iQoS iQ oS is a more intuitive and a utomated tool to manag e internet bandwi dth than manually con figuring the setting s usi ng QoS. For onli ne gamers or u sers with bandwidt h requirements for au dio/vid eo, iQoS is a useful function.

92 III-3-8. Advanced Advanced features of t he BR - 6208 AC can be configured from the “Advance d ” menu. III-3-8-1. Static Routing Static routing is a method of configuring path selecti on of routers , characterized by t he absence of com munication between route rs regarding the current topolo gy of the netwo rk.
93 Enable Static Routing Check/uncheck th e box to enable /disable static routing. Destination LAN IP Enter the destination netwo rk’s IP address. Subnet Mask Enter the subnet mask of the destin ation network. Default Gateway Enter the default gateway of th e destination network.
94 Private IP Enter the IP address of t he computer on t he local network. Computer Name Windows compute rs on the local net work will be listed here – select a comput er from the list and click << to aut omatically add the IP address to the “ Private IP” field.
95 III-3-8-3. Virtual Server This function al lows you to s et up an i nternet service on a l ocal compute r, without exposi ng the local computer to the internet . You can a lso build various sets of port redirecti on, to provide various i nternet services on different local comput ers via a single i nternet IP add ress.
96 III-3-8-4. 2.4GHz Wireless These settings are for expe rienced users only. P lease do not change any of the values on this page unless y ou are already familiar wit h these functions. Fragment Thresho ld Set the Fragment threshold of the wi reless radio.
97 Channel Width Select wireless channel width (bandwidt h used by wireless sign als from th e dev ice) – the recommended value is Auto 20/40MHz. Preamble Type Set the wireless radio preamble type . The default value is “ Short Preamble”. CTS Protect Enabling this setting will reduce the chance of radio signal collisions betwe en 802.
98 Fragment Thresho ld Set the Fragment th reshold of the wi reless radio. The default value is 2346. RTS Threshold Set the RTS thresh old of the wireles s radio. The default value is 234 7. Beacon Interval Set the beacon interval of the wirele ss radio.
99 CTS Protect Enabling thi s setting will reduce the chance of radio signal collis ions between 802.11b and 802.11g wireless acc ess points. It’s recommended to s et this option to “Au to”. Tx Power Set the power output of the wireless radio. You may not requi re 100% output power.
100 III-3-8-6. IGMP IGMP is a commun ications protocol u sed to establish m ulticast gr oup memberships. It allows for a more efficient use of resources and bett er performance for appl ications such as IPTV video str eaming. IGMP Snooping IGMP snooping m onitors traffic between hosts and multicast routers to facilitate bandwidth conser vation .
101 III-3-8-7. UPnP Universal plug-and -play (UPnP) is a set of netwo rking protocols which enables network devices to co mmunicate and a utomatically establ ish working configurations wit h each other.
102 III-3-9. Administration Various administrat ive functi ons can be accessed f rom the “Administration” menu. III-3-9-1. Time Zone Set Time Zone Select the time zone of you r country or region. Time Server Address The travel router s upports NTP (Net work Time Protocol) for automatic time and dat e setup.
