37 CHAPTER III: GENERAL SE TUP You can p erform advanced configuration of this broadban d router in “ General Setup ” . 1. Click “ General Setup ” after logging in. 2. All availab le setup items will app ear under th e “ General Setu p ” tab.

62 3-4 Wireless You can set up your Wi-Fi under “ Wireless ” . 3-4-1 Wireless Set tings Basic wireless sett ings can be configured here. Item Name Description Band Select from one of the following options: 2.4 GHz (B): Allows 802.11b wireless net work clien ts to connect to this router (maximum transfer rate 11Mbps).
63 2.4 GHz (G): Allows 802.11g wireles s network clients to connect to this router (maximum transfer rate 54 Mbps). 2.4GHz (B+G+ N): Allows 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11 n wireless clie nts to connec t to this router (recommen ded). ESSID This is the name of your router.
64 3-4-2 Security Settin gs Advanced sec urity settings are available in certain modes to enhanc e connection security. 3-4-2-1 Disabled Connection encryption is disabled under this mode ( not recommended ). 3-4-2- 2 WEP Selecting “ WEP ” enable s WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy ) en cryption.

71 3-5 Advance Sett ings You can configure such advan ced networking functions like QoS , DDNS, port forwarding , and DMZ un der “ Advanced Setting s ” .

78 3-5-3 Port Forwa rding This function allows y ou to redirect a single port or c onsecutive p orts of Internet I P address to th e same port of the IP address on local network. The port number(s) of Internet IP address an d private I P address (the I P address on local n etwork) must b e the same.
79 If you want to d elete a specific port forwarding entry, chec k the ‘select’ box of the p ort forwarding entry you want to delete, then click ‘Delete Selected’ bu tton.
80 3-5-4 DMZ Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a spec ial area in your local network. This area resides in local network, and all compu ters in this area uses p rivate IP address, too. But th ese private IP addresses are mapped to a certain Internet IP address, so other people on Internet ca n fully access th ose computers in DMZ.

Without NAT, all c ompu ters must be assigned with a valid Internet IP address to get connected to Internet, but Inte rnet service p roviders only provide ver y f ew IP addresses to e very user.

98 3-7-3 DoS Denial of Service (DoS) is a comm on attack measu re, by transmitting a great amount of data or requ est to your Inte rnet IP address and server, the Internet connection will become very slow, and server may stop responding because it is not capable to handle too much traffics.
99 IP address. Sync Flood This is another k ind of attack, which uses a lot of fake connec tion request to c onsume the memory of your se rver, and try to make your server become unusable. Ch eck this box and the router will filte r this kin d of traffic out.
