4 Introduction Thank you for purchasing Edimax 3G-6200n nLite wirel ess 3G broadband router! This high cost-ef ficiency router is the best choice for Mobile / Small office / Home of fice users, all computers and net work devices can share a single wireless 3G modem or xDSL / c able** modem internet connection at high speed.

7 Front Panel On the router’s front panel there ar e LEDs, which shows the stat us of this router. Below is the list of each LED and its description.

10 Getting started This is a step-by-step instructi on on how to start using the router and get connected to the Internet. 1) Setup your network as shown in the setup di agram above (fig 1.2). 2) You will need to set your LAN PC c lients so that it can obtai n an IP address automatically.
11 • Gateway : All fields are blank. • DNS Configurati on : Select Disable DNS. • WINS Configuration : Select Disable WINS Resol ution. • IP Address : Select Obt ain IP address automatically . 8 . Reboot the PC. Your PC will now obtain an IP addr ess automatic ally from your Broadband Router’s DHCP server.
12 5. Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address automatically from your Bro adband Router’s DHCP server. Note : Please make sure that the Broa dband router is the onl y DHCP server on your LAN. Once you’ve configured your PC to obt ain an IP address automatically , please proceed to S tep 3 2c) Windows 2000 1.
13 6. Click OK to confirm the setting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address automatically from your Bro adband Router’s DHCP server. Note : Please make sure that the Broa dband router is the onl y DHCP server on your LAN. Once you’ve configured your PC to obt ain an IP address automatically , please proceed to S tep 3 .
14 5. After you inst all TCP/IP , go back to the Network window . Select TCP/IP from the list of Network Prot ocols and then clic k the Properties button. 6. Check each of the tabs and ve rify the follow ing settings: • IP Address: Sel ect Obtai n an IP address from a DHCP server .

18 Chapter 1 Quick Setup The Quick Setup section is designed t o get you using the broadband router as quickly as possible. In the Quick Setup you are required to fill in only the information necessary to access the Interne t. Once you click on the Quick Setup W izard in the HOME p age, you should see the screen below .
19 Step 2) 3G/3.5G Internet Configuration 3G-6200n supports most of 3G/3.5G modem cards, just connect the modem card to the USB port of 3G-62 00n and 3G-6200n will recognize it automatically , no additional setup procedu re required.
20 If telecomm provider provides you wit h username / password, please check /User Name / Password box and input t he user name / p assword provided by telecomm service provider , then click ‘O K’ button. Wait for 1 minute (for 3G-6200n to reboot), then y ou can access Internet.
21 ( C ) Driver / Utility required on PC side Some 3G/3.5G modem card does not work with instruct ions (A) or (B) listed above (ex. BandLuxe C100S). Y ou need to install 3G/3.5G modem card driver / utility on every PC which needs to access Internet first.
22 4. Please go to “My computer ” , yo u will see the BandLuxe C100S. Double click the device.
23 6. Click “Next ” . 7. Select “I accept the term s in the license agreement ” and click “Next” .
24 8. If you want to change the des tination fol d e r , please click “Chang e” . Click “Next ” to continue.

29 Step 3) Broadband Type ( Connect to Internet via Ethernet ) 3G-6200n provides two types of Inte rnet connection method: wireless (3G/3.5G) or wired connection. Y ou c an access internet via USB 3G/3.5G modem card, or via wired xDSL / cabl e modem connection.

40 Chapter 2 General Settings Once you click on the General Setup button at the Home Page, you should see the screen below . If you have already co nfigured the Quick Setup Wi zard, you DO NOT need to configure anything thing in the G eneral Setup screen for you to start using the Internet.

45 2.1.3 Remote Management The remote management func tion allows you to designate a host in the Internet the ability to configure the Broadband rout er from a remote site.

47 2.2 3G/3.5G 3G-6200n provides two types of Intern et connection method: wireless (3G/3.5G) or wired connection. 51 2.3.7 DNS A Domain Name System (DNS) server is like an index of IP addresses and Web addresses. If you type a Web address into your browser, such as www.router.com, a DNS server w ill find that name in its index and the matching IP address. Most ISPs provide a DNS server for speed and convenience.

55 2.5 Wireless Wireless Access Point builds a wi reless LAN and can let all PCs equipped with IEEE 802.11b or 801.11g wireless network adaptor connect to your Intranet. It sup ports WEP and WPA2 encryption to enhance the security of your wireless network.
56 2.5.1 Basic Settings You can set parameters th at are used for the wirel ess stations to connect to this router. The param eters include Mode , ESSID, Channel Number and Asso ciated Client. Parameters Default Description Mode It allows you to set the AP to AP , Bridge or WDS mode.
57 “WDS Security Setting s” will pop up. Y ou can set the security parameters used to bridge access points together here, when you set your AP in AP Bridge mode. Y ou can refer to section 4.3 “S ecurity Settings” for detail ed instructions. Click < Apply > at the bottom of the screen to save t he configurations.
58 2.5.2 Advanced Settings You can set advanced wireless LAN parameters of th is router. The parameters include Authentication Type , Fragment Threshol d, RTS Threshold, Beacon I nterval, preamble Type, etc. You shoul d not change these parameters u nless you know their function and effects.

60 2.5.3 Security This Router provides complete wirele ss LAN security fu nctions, include WEP, IEEE 802.11x, IEEE 802.11x with WEP, WPA with pre-shared key and WPA with RADIUS. With th ese security functions, you can prevent your wireless LAN from illega l access.
61 Default Key Select one of the four keys to encrypt your data. O nly the key you select it in the "Default key" will be used. Key 1 – Key 4 The WEP keys are used to encrypt data transmitted over the wireless network.
62 2.5.3.2 802.1x only IEEE 802.1x is an authentication prot ocol. Every user must use a valid account to login to this Access Point before acce ssing the wireless LAN. The authentication is processed by a RADIUS serv er. This mode only authenticates user by IEEE 802.
63 2.5.3.3 802.1x WEP Static key IEEE 802.1x is an authentication prot ocol. Every user must use a valid account to login to this Access Point before acce ssing the wireless LAN. The authentication is processed by a RADIUS serv er. This mode also uses WEP to encrypt the da ta during communication.
64 2.5.3.4 WPA Pre-shared key Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is an advanced security standard. You can use a pre-shared key to authenti cate wireless stations and encrypt data during communication. It uses TKIP or CCMP (AES) to change the encryption key frequently.
65 2.5.3.5 WPA Radius Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is an advanced security standard. You can use an external RADIUS server to authenticate wi reless stations and provide the session key to encrypt data during communication. It uses TKIP or CCMP (AES) to change the encryption key frequently, and this will improve security.

67 2.5.5 WPS WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) provides a convenient way to establish the connection between this broadband rout er and wireless clients. Any WPS-compatible wireless client s can establish secure connection with this broadband router with simple push-button type configuration or PinCode type configuration.

70 Bandwidth T otal Upload Bandwidth Here you can set the maxi mum upload bandwid th for all the users of the router . Add a QoS rule into the table Click “Add”, and the QoS rule form will appear . Click “Apply” after filling the form and the rule will be added into the t able.
71 Parameters Description Rule Name The name of this rule. Bandwidth Y ou can assign the download or upload bandwidt h in Kbps (1024 bit per second). Y ou can limit the maximum bandwidth consum ed by this rule by selecting “Maximum” . Y ou also can reserve en ough bandwidth for this rule by selecting “Guarantee”.
72 2.7 NAT Network Address T ranslatio n (NA T) allows multiple users at yo ur local site to access the Internet through a single Public IP Address or multiple Public IP Addresses.
73 support UPnP , like Windows XP , can discover this router automatically and access the Inter net through this router without any configuration. The NA T T rav ersal function provided by UPnP can let applications that support UPnP smoothly connect to Internet sites without any incompatibility problem due to the NAPT port translation.
74 2.7.1 Port Forwarding The Port Forwarding allo ws you to redirect a par ticular range of service port numbers (from the Internet/WAN Ports) to a particular LAN IP address.

76 2.7.2 Virtual Server Use the Virtual Server function when you want different servers/clients in your LAN to handle different serv ice/Internet application type (e.g. Email, FTP, Web server etc.) from the Internet. Comp uters use numbers called port numbers t o recognize a part icular service/Internet application type.
77 Please note that this list may not be able to list all computers on your local network. Private Port Input the port number of the IP address which provides Internet service.
78 2.7.3 Special Applications Some applications require multiple co nnections, such as Internet games, video conferencing, Intern et telephony and others . In this secti on you can configure the router to support multiple con nections for these types of applications.

81 2.7.4 UPnP Settings With UPnP, all PCs in you Intranet will discover this router automatically. 83 2.7.6 Static Routing This router provides static r outing function when NAT is disabled. With static routing, the ro uter can forwar d packets according to your routing rules. The IP sharing fu nction will not work any more in static routing mode. Note: The DMZ function of firewall will not work if stati c routing is enabled.
84 Gateway destination LAN. This is the IP of the neighbor router that this router should comm unicate with on the path to the destination LAN. Hop Count The number of hops (router s) to pass through to reach the destination LAN. Interface The interface that go to the next hop (router).
85 2.8 Firewall This broadband router provides ex tensive firewall protection by restricting connection pa rameters, thus limiting th e risk of hacker attack, and defending against a wide array of common Internet attacks.
