8 Introduction devolo dLAN 200 AV USB extender 2.1 What exactly is dLAN? dLAN ( d irect L ocal A rea N etwork) uses the household power grid to transfer data between computers equipped with suitable adapters and other network components. As a result, an y power outlet can be used as a network access point.

It will explain connecting the dLAN 200 AV USB extender and its functions. We will also briefly introduce the included devolo software and then guide you through its instal- lation.

dLAN net work 15 d e v o l o d L A N 2 0 0 AV USB extender 4d L A N n e t w o r k 4.1 Security in the dLAN Before you can use the dLAN 20 0 AV USB extender in your dLAN network, first you have to connect it to other dLAN 200 AV devices as a home network.
16 dLAN network devolo dLAN 200 AV USB extender After starting the dLAN Cockpit, all reachable dLAN devices in your home network will appear. This may take a moment.

20 dLAN network devolo dLAN 200 AV USB extender Encrypting a new network with a dLAN 200 AV USB extender and a devolo dLAN 200 AV adapter (Fig. 1) Once both adapters have been successfully connected, press each encryption button for approx. one sec- ond within two m inutes of one an other .
dLAN net work 21 d e v o l o d L A N 2 0 0 AV USB extender Expanding an existing dLAN 200 AV network by adding a new dLAN 200 AV USB extender (Fig. 2) If you have already secured your existing dLAN 200 AV network using the encryption button, use the same method to integrate furthe r adapters.
22 dLAN network devolo dLAN 200 AV USB extender Removing a dLAN 200 AV USB extender from a network (Fig. 3) To remove a dLAN 200 AV USB extender adapter from an existing network, press its encryption button for at least 10 seconds . The device will be assigned a new randomly generated password and will thus no longer be able to access the netw ork.
dLAN net work 23 d e v o l o d L A N 2 0 0 AV USB extender 4.3 dLAN Cockpit and dLAN 200 AV USB extender Using the dLAN Cockpit you can control access to the dLAN 200 AV USB extender and thus to the connected USB device. After the installation, the dLAN Cockpit can be found in the Start 쒁 Programs 쒁 devolo pro- gram group.
24 dLAN network devolo dLAN 200 AV USB extender When assigning fixed IP add resses, please note that they must be in the same IP address rang e, since you wil l otherwise exclude devices from your dLAN network (unin tentionally).
