Basic Printing 2 Basi c P ri n ti ng T urning on the Print er 1 Open the Paper Support. 2 Press the PO WER button. The POWER lamp fl ashes while the printer w arms up and ch anges to ste ady (non- flashin g) gree n when the printer is re ady. Note Thi s Quick St ar t Guide describes some of the features of y our iP90 printer and how to use them.
Basic Printing 3 T urning off the Printer 1 T o turn off the printer, pres s the POWER button. When the POWER lamp stops blinking, the printer is turned off. Important About the Po wer Plug When remov ing the power plug after turning off the printer , be sure to c heck that the PO WER lamp is not lit.
Basic Printing 4 Loadi ng P a per Print Media to Av oid Do not use the following types of paper. Us ing such paper wil l not only produce uns atisfactory results, but can also cause the printer to jam or malfunction.
Basic Printing 5 2 Prepare to load paper . 3 Load the paper. Loa din g P lai n Pa per Note • Plac e the printer on a flat surface. • Do n ot pl ace any obstacles in front of the printer to secure the space for paper output. • Remove eac h sheet a s soon as paper is out.
Basic Printing 6 Loa ding Env elo pes Use either DL or US C omm. #10 size envelope s. (3) Select Envelope in Media Type , and then select C omm. Env. #10 or DL Env . in Page Size . Basic Printing 8 Us ing S pecia lity Media C anon rec ommends that you use genuine Canon media to en sure optimal print quality. Photo Qual ity Media • Photo Paper Pro • Photo Paper Plus Gloss.
Basic Printing 9 C anon Specia lity Media *1 When paper cannot be fed normally , load the neces sary number of sheets in the Auto Sheet Feeder with them sepa rating from each other to avoid them from sticking together.
Basic Printing 10 l Printing with W indows 1 Cre ate a document or open a file to print . 2 Open the Printer Properties dialog box. (1) Select Print from the applic ation's File menu. Note • The menu screens and dialog box es that appear may v ar y , depen din g on the software applic ation you are using.

Basic Printing 12 Printing with Mac intosh 1 Cre ate a document or open a file to print . 2 Select Paper Siz e. (1) Select Page Se tup from the application's Fi le menu. The Page Setup dialog box opens. Note Y ou can canc el a print job in progress by simp ly pressing the RESUME/ CANCEL button on the printer.
Basic Printing 13 3 Specify the required settings. (1) Select Print from the applic ation's File menu. Note • When you select the print mode appropriate to your document from the Print Mode , the document wil l be printed in the c olor and print quality suited to the ch aracteristics of the Media T ype you have selected.
Basic Printing 14 C anc eling Printing Y ou can c anc el a print job while printi ng with the RESUME/CANCEL b utton on the printer . 1 Press the RE SUME/CANCEL button while printing. Printing is c anceled and the paper is ej ected. 1 Select Print from the File menu in your applic ation program.
Basic Printing 15 Printing Data thr ough Infrar ed C ommunic ation If you have a c omputer, PDA or mobile phone w ith an Infrared Port for wireless data communic ation, you can print data with a cordless c onnection with the prin t er.
Basic Printing 16 Requir ements for Infr ared C ommunic ation with the PDA In order to use infrared c ommunication, your PDA must s atisfy the following requirements: Requir ements fo r Infrar.

(3) Open the Paper Suppor t, t urn on the printer, and then turn on the computer. 2 Start the Canon iP90 Set up Utility . 3 Specify the paper siz e and layo ut. Changing the Photo Print Settings (1) Cl ick In frared/Bluetooth c onnection Print Setting s tab.

Basic Printing 20 Note F ollow ing limitations apply on tr ansmittabl e data • It does not support printing a downloaded content or photo and a photo attac hed to an email for security reason.
Basic Printing 21 Performing Infr ared C ommunic ation When performing infrar ed commu nication, al so refer to y our computer , mobile phone or PDA m anual. 1 Set up the Printer. (1) Ensure that the Universal AC Adapt er is connected securely . When using the optional battery , ensure that it has been c harged.
Basic Printing 22 Note • By press ing the RESUME/CANCEL button, you can print the same image data tr ansmitted from the mobile phone right before. • Do not place any obst acle between the Infrared Ports of the printer and PDA, mobile phone or computer .
Advanced Printing 23 Adv anc ed Printing Printing Photographs Dir ectly from a PictBridg e C o mpli ant Devic e C onnecting a PictBridge compliant devic e such a s a digital camera, camc order or mobile phone to the printer allows you to print rec orded images directly w ithout using a c omputer .
Advanced Printing 24 C onnecting to a PictBridge C ompliant Devi ce T o connect a PictBridge c ompliant device t o this printer, u se the USB cable supplied with the dev ice. 1 Set up the printer Ensure that the Univer sal AC Adapt er is connected securely .

(1) Ensure that the devic e is turned off . Note Some types of the devi ce turn on automatic ally , when c onnected to the printer.
Advanced Printing 26 (3) T urn on and set up the device for dir ect printing. When the connection between the devi ce and printer has been es tablished, the POWER lamp on the print er flashes onc e. Either of the following ic ons wi ll displ ay on the L CD displ ay of the device when the printer is c orrectly connected.
Advanced Printing 27 About Imag e Data Form at for Printing This printer c an handle only Ex if/JPEG and PNG im age data t o produce phot os. About “Paper Siz e” and “Paper T ype” T o c hange the paper siz e or paper type, operate your devic e to select the PictB ridg e print setup mode and confirm or c hange the settings.
Advanced Printing 28 About “Imag e optimize” If you use a C anon PictBridge-compliant c amera, you can select “VIVID”, “NR”, or “VIVID+NR”. (Note that these option s cannot be selected for some models.) About “Date print” By def ault, “Off” i s selected for thi s printer.

Advanced Printing 30 Adjusting Print Quality f o r Photogr aphs Improv ing Printed Im ages T wo impor t ant factors control the quality and output of your printed images: Paper and Ink Usin g recommended C anon paper , speciality media and ink for printing photographs can signific antly improve the quality of your printouts.
Advanced Printing 31 2 Select Cu stom in Print Quality, then clic k Set to open the Set Print Quality dialog bo x. 3 Move the slide bar to ad ju st the Print Quality. 4 When the proce ss is c omplete, clic k OK. 1 Open the Print dialog box. See " Printing with Macintosh " on page 12.
Advanced Printing 32 T o automatic a l ly optimize the im age: Photo Optimizer PRO autom atically adjusts the photographic image cre ated with a digital c amera. Use this feat ure to compen sate for un satisf actory color balanc e and over- or under -exposure before printing.
Advanced Printing 33 T o use Viv id Photo option: Vivid Photo intens ifies the background colors found in phot os th at have fields, trees, oc eans and sk ies while maint aining nat ural skin tones in the imag es. T o use Viv id Photo, select the V ivid Photo chec k box on the Effects tab.
Advanced Printing 34 T o reduc e noise from imag es captur ed with a digital c amera: Photo Noise Reduction function reduc es noise from blue portions such a s those found in the skies and dark portions of images c aptured with a digit al camera. T o use Photo Noi se Reduction, select the Photo Noise R eduction c heck box on the Effects tab.
Advanced Printing 35 Saving and R ecall ing Driver Settings When you c hange printer driver settings for a specific print job, suc h as printing blac k and white photos or printing documents wi th a special bac kground, y ou can s ave and name these settings for future use on similar print job s.

U se this function when printed resu lts are blurred or the color i s incorrect. (1) Ensure that the printer i s turned on, and then load a sheet of Letter paper .

Printing Maintenance 46 2 When cleaning i s neces sary, c lick the Cleaning button on the Pattern Chec k dialog. *C l i c k t h e Cl ean ing button on the Pattern Chec k screen to proc eed to Print Head cleaning. See " Print Head Cleaning " on page 47.

Printing Maintenance 50 3 Start Print Head C leaning. Print Head cleaning st ar ts when the POWER lamp s tarts blinking. Important Do not perform any other op erations un til the Print Head cleaning finishes. T hi s takes about 60 seconds. (1) Select Clea ni ng from the pop-up menu.
Printing Maintenance 51 4 Chec k the Print Head condition. (1) Cl ick Print Chec k Pattern in the dialog appeared after cle aning are done. A nozzle chec k pattern will be printed. Do not perform any operat ion until printi ng of the nozzle c heck patt ern is comple ted.
Printing Maintenance 52 Print Head D eep C leaning If print quality does n ot improve b y standar d Print Head cl eaning, try Print He ad deep cleaning, whic h is a more power f ul process. Print Head deep cle aning consumes more ink than standard Print He ad cleaning, so pe rform this procedure on ly when neces sary .
Printing Maintenance 53 3 Start Print Head Deep C leaning. (4) When the confirmation mes sage is di splayed, clic k OK . Print Head deep cle aning starts when the POWER lam p star ts blinki ng. Important Do not perform any ot her operations until the Print He ad deep cl eaning is comp leted (about two to three minutes).

(2) If the problem persists, perform step 3 again. (3) If the problem persists, the printer may have run out of ink.

Move the Paper Thic kness Lever (gray) to the right pos ition. 2 Open the BJ Printer Utility dialog bo x. (1) Double-clic k the hard disk icon where the printer driver w as install ed, the Applications folder, and the Utilit ies folder.
Printing Maintenance 60 4 Align the Print Head. (1) Look at the print out. From the patterns, select the most even, le ast irregul ar patterns. Not e If it is difficult to pick up the best pattern on Column H, pic k t he setting that produc es the least noticeab le vert ic al white stripes.
Printing Maintenance 61 Rep lac ing an Ink T ank If the print re sult is not im proved aft er mainten ance suc h as Print Hea d cle aning, an ink tank runs out of ink. R eplace the ink t ank with a new one. When replac ing an ink tank, c heck the model number very carefu lly .
Printing Maintenance 62 2 Remov e the empty ink tank. (1) Push the tab. (2) Remove the ink t ank. Then lift it from its slot. Do not touc h the Loc k lever; remove on ly the ink tank. 3 Prepare a replac ement ink tank. (1) Unpack a new ink t ank and remove the or ange Protective C ap.
Printing Maintenance 63 4 Insert the ink tank. (1) Insert a new ink tank with it slightly slanted. (2) Push down on the on the ink tank until it c lick s into place. 5 C lose the Print Head C over. The Print Head Holder move s to the right. Important When an ink tank is rep laced, the ink c ounter must be re set.
Printing Maintenance 64 Re setting the Ink C ount er When an ink tank is repl aced, the ink c ounter must be reset. The low ink warning i s only displ ayed properly if the ink counter i s reset.

Printing Maintenance 67 How Lo w Ink W arning Setting W orks The low ink warning notifies y ou of low ink levels during printing. The Low Ink W arning has been pr eset to be automatical ly displayed. When you reset the in k c ounter, it wil l assume that the ink tank is full regardless of how muc h ink actually r emains.
Printing Maintenance 68 How to Di spl ay Low Ink W arning C orrectly • Reset the ink c ounter every time you instal l a new ink tank. The ink cou nter cannot work correctly u nless y ou sync hronize it w ith the actual ink level. The ink cou nter can only be adjusted when it i s reset at the time a new ink tank is installe d.
