Before you use your mobile radios for the first time you will need to follow the simple instructions in ‘Getting Started’, on the next few pages.

Install the batteries Y our B T Freeway Pro mobile radios are each supplied with a rechargeable NiMH battery pack. However, each mobile radio will operate with 3 x AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) if required. 1. With the back of the radio facing you, lift the battery cover latch up to release and remove the battery cover.
Charge the batteries Locate the dual charging unit on a flat surface, within reach of a mains power socket: 1. Plug the dual charger lead into the back of the charging unit and the plug into the mains power socket and switch on. 2. Slide each radio into one of the charging pockets, facing forward, to begin charging.
Attaching the belt clip (optional) Align the belt clip post with the hole in the back of the radio, then gently push the clip until it clicks into place. Removing the belt clip Push down on the release tab on the top of the belt clip to release the catch and pull the belt clip away from the back of the radio.

B T Freeway Pro T win – Issue 02 – Edition 02 – 04.06.04 – 6196 Using your mobile radios Switching the radio power ON 1. T urn clockwise to switch the radio on. Y ou will hear an ‘on’ tone and all the display icons will appear briefly. The display will then return to the standby display.
11 B T Freeway Pro T win – Issue 02 – Edition 02 – 04.06.04 – 6196 2. Use and to select a channel from 1 to 8. 3. Press to confirm. The selected channel will be shown on the display. Selecting a sub-channel (CTCSS) Each of the 8 channels on your BT Freeway Pro has 38 sub-channels (CTCSS codes).

14 B T Freeway Pro T win – Issue 02 – Edition 02 – 04.06.04 – 6196 T o send a call tone: 1. Press . Both your radio and the other radios in your group will sound a call tone. T o change the call tone: 1. Press 3 times . The current call tone setting flashes and is displayed.
15 B T Freeway Pro T win – Issue 02 – Edition 02 – 04.06.04 – 6196 1. Press , the icon is displayed. Y our radio will rapidly scan each of the 8 channels and pause for 5 seconds on any active channel so you can hear the transmission, before resuming the scan.
When the channel you want to remove is being scanned: 1. Press and hold or for 3 seconds , then release. The channel will be temporarily removed from the scan list.
V O X (using the handset) V ox allows you to have a fully handsfree conversation. Y our voice is detected and transmitted by the radio without the need to press . 1. T urn anti-clockwise to switch the radio off. 2. Switch clockwise whilst holding down the button.
With VOX active: 1. Press button 4 times . 2. The display shows the current sensitivity level (flashing) along with I . 3. Press or to select the sensitivity level: 1 – Low sensitivity, for noisy environments. 2 – Medium sensitivity, for most environments.
3. Switch your radio ON keeping the volume low. 4. The display on your radio will show VOX . 5. Insert earpiece into your ear. Speak into the microphone on the headset. After a short delay your voice will be detected and your message will be sent. When you stop talking you will be able to receive a message back from the receiving radio.
If you do not wish to use VO X on your headset you will need to disable it. T o disable VO X, press the button on your radio. Once VOX is disabled you can still use your headset but to transmit your voice you will now need to press the button on the handset.

B T Freeway Pro T win – Issue 02 – Edition 02 – 04.06.04 – 6196 General information Safety and general Do not open the mobile radio. Radio signals transmitted between mobile radios may cause interference to hearing aids. Switch off the mobile radio when near medical equipment.
