4 PREPARATION SUPPLYING P OWER Using Internal Battery P ower When you use batte ries, your radio re quires four AA batt eries for opera- tion. It also uses two AAA batteries for clock and memory station backup. We recommend alka line batteries, such as RadioSha ck Cat.
5 U s i n g AC Po w e r To power the radio with AC power, you need an AC adapt er such as RadioShack Cat. No. 273 -1663 (not supplied). Cautions: • Y ou must use an A C adapter that supplies at least 6 v olts and deliv ers at least 300 milliamps . Its center tip must be set to negativ e and its plug m ust fi t the r adi o’ s DC 6V jack.

7 USING EARPHONES OR HEADPHONES You can use the built-in spea ker to listen to the radio. Or , you can use stereo earphones or hea dph ones (not supplied) with 1 / 8 -inch plug to listen privately. Insert the earphones’ plu g int o the radio’s jack.
8 USING THE STAND You can use th e radio ’s stand to set t he ra dio at a n angle so you ca n eas- ily see the display. Simply lif t the stand away from the back of the radio and set the radio on a flat surface.
9 OPERATION T UNING THE RADIO 1. T urn VO L U M E to its lowest setting, then lift and fully e xtend the antenna. 2. Press PO WER to turn on the radio . The last tuned frequency appe ars. 3. Slide B AND AM /F M t o the desired band. 4. If y ou selected the FM band, set SENS (Sensitivity) to DX or LOC .
10 USING THE STATION MEMORIES You can store up to 20 stations (10 FM and 10 AM) into mem ory and quickly recall each. Follow these steps t o store a station. 1. T urn on the radio and sele ct a band (see “T uning the Radio ” on P age 9). 2. Press TUNING + or – to tune to the stat ion y ou want to store.
11 LIGHTING THE DISPLA Y To light the display for easy viewing in low light situations, hold down LIGHT . USING THE SLEEP TIMER The sleep timer lets yo u go to sleep with the radi o playing. The radio plays for up to 90 minu tes, then t urns off au tomatically .
