Plug the scanner power cord into the AC power in put on the ba ck of th e scanner and connect the other end to a power outlet. Connect the supplied USB cable to an available USB 2 .

Browse to the folder D:minidriver , where “D ” is the letter for the drive that contains th e Tr ū per CD-ROM. If there is no reque st for files needed, continue with the ne xt step.

T o install the files in a dif ferent folder , click Browse and select a dif ferent destination, then click OK in the Choose Folder window .

For the best resu lts when scanning multiple sheet s, follow the documen t prepar ation re commendations and procedures as described in “ Document Prepar ation ” on p age 51 .

www.bbhscanners.com 56 of 142 When scanning document s that are longer than the feeder tray , you can pull out the feeder extension tray , w hich is located near the edge of the feeder tray . The ex tension tray will support documents up t o 15 inches (3 81 mm) lo ng.
www.bbhscanners.com 57 of 142 Caution The height of the documents p laced in the feeder tray must no t exceed the pa per limit mark that appears on the right si de of the document guide . Placing more sheets in the feeder tr ay may cause a pape r jam.
www.bbhscanners.com 58 of 142 Clearing Paper Jams in the ADF If a paper jam occurs in the ADF (Automatic Document Fe eder), the jam is often th e result of loading torn documents, documents with thin paper , or documents that are crea sed or curled on th e edge going into the feeder .
www.bbhscanners.com 59 of 142 Pull the jammed document out of the document feed er . When only the bottom end of jammed paper is visibl e with the ADF door open, keep the ADF door open and also ope n the exit door .
www.bbhscanners.com 60 of 142 R e mo ving Paper Jams from the Exit Path Pull the exit stopper forward and ra ise the feeder tr ay in the direction of the arrow u ntil the tray clicks into place. Pull the exit door release lever and op en the exit door .

www.bbhscanners.com 62 of 142 ST OP/ST ART Button Operation The scanner ST OP/ST ART button has dif ferent functions depending on the mode of operation. Emergency S top mode (default) If the scanner is running and feeding p aper , press the blue STOP/ST ART button to immediately stop the paper in the scanner .
www.bbhscanners.com 63 of 142 Feed Modes with the ADF If the scanning applic ation supports the Advanced Scanner Settings , the scanner can be configured in either automatic, manual or wait for start feed modes via operator selection of the Advanced Settings - Manual Feed Mode .
www.bbhscanners.com 64 of 142 Wait f or Star t to Feed In this mode, the operator can manually control t he st art and stop of a batch using the STOP/ST ART button. T o exit the feed mode, press the scanner’s STOP/ST ART key an d cancel scanning from the application.
www.bbhscanners.com 65 of 142 Scanner Manual Feed Setting Y ou can use the ADF (Automatic Document Feede r) to scan a document one sheet at a tim e. This setting is not recommended for multip le or batch feeding; the bo ttom feede r ro ller is dropped, making it e asier to scan thicker document s through the ADF .
www.bbhscanners.com 66 of 142 Insert one sheet of t he document into the paper slot with the s ide to be scanned fa cing up. • T o scan in portrait mode, insert the sheet wi th the top edge going first into the paper slot. • T o scan in land scape mod e, insert the sheet with the left edge g oing first into the paper slot .
www.bbhscanners.com 67 of 142 3. Select a speed from the Feeding Sp eed drop -down list in the Ad va nced Settings dialog box. Detect Double Feed This function detects th e feeding of more than one sheet at a time. If a do uble feed is detected, you can opt to be notified.
www.bbhscanners.com 68 of 142 4. If the Detect Double Feed function operates incorrectly , adjust the sensitivity level by selecting one of the levels in the Sensitivity drop-down list.
www.bbhscanners.com 69 of 142 Changing the Background Color Y ou can select the backgr ound reference color for the documents yo u scan. The background refer ence color is the color of th e plate th at is behind the docu ment.

With the Refe rence Plate still pressed into place, use your left hand to roll it forward until it is in the appro priate position. Confirm that the refere nce plate has been turned over and is locked in position.

Push the ADF door release button to open the ADF door . Use the roller clean ing paper to remove any dir t or grime from the surfaces of the paper fe ed roller and sepa ration roller .

www.bbhscanners.com 78 of 142 Use the roller cleaning pap er to remove the dirt from the surfaces of the fo ur (4) drive rollers. Hold the roller to prevent it from rot ating, then wipe the roller from one side to the other in the direction of the arro ws sh ow n in the diagram.

Pull the exit door release lever to open the exit doo r . Use the roller cleaning p ap er to remove the dirt from the surfaces of the fo ur (4) drive rollers and the two (2 ) exit rollers.

In the scanner ba se assembly , clean the ADF gl ass (A) and reference plate (B) with the roller cleaning p aper .

www.bbhscanners.com 83 of 142 Cleaning the Paper Sens or , Waiting Sensors and Double Feed Detector Prep aration: Locate the blower accessory and remove the brush from the blower . Press the power button to the OFF position. Push the ADF door release button to open the ADF door .

www.bbhscanners.com 86 of 142 Replacing Consumables Replacing the Pa per Feed Roller Module The T r ū per scan ner allows yo u to perform routine main tenance with out calling a service tech nician. This includes replacing a variet y of part s th at become wo rn as the scanner is used.
www.bbhscanners.com 87 of 142 Remove the paper feed roller module from the ADF door as shown in the following step s and diagrams. 1. Place your fingers on the t abs on the sides of the roller module and pull down the roller module in the direction of the arrow as shown in the diag ram.
www.bbhscanners.com 88 of 142 Open the Roller Exchange Kit and t ake out the new paper feed roller module. Install th e new pape r feed roller module as shown in the followin g steps and diagr ams. 1. Carefully insert the shaft on the r oller module into the bracket s in the ADF door assembly .
www.bbhscanners.com 89 of 142 Replacing the Retard Roller Module Replace both the feed r oller module and the ret ard roller module af ter 300,000 scans. Replace the roller modules more often if yo u find that cleaning insi de the scanner no longer improves p aper jamming, slipping, multi-feeding, mar king and similar feeding problems.
www.bbhscanners.com 90 of 142 Remove the retard roller from the metal brackets by holding the e nds of the roller shaft and pulling up the roller in the direction of the arrows, as shown in the following dia gr am. Open the Roller Exchange Kit and t ake out the new retard roller .
www.bbhscanners.com 91 of 142 Close the retard roller cover . • When you close the ret ard cover , close it secure ly until the cover is lo cked. Do not slam the retard cover . After replacing the pape r feed and retard ro ller modules, click the icon to open the T r ū per User Utility .

www.bbhscanners.com 96 of 142 5. Place the special shadin g paper in the feed er tray in the Landscape position, then click OK . Â Note Use only shading p aper th at is in good con dition. Do n ot use shadin g p aper that is dirty or damaged because this will cause the image quality to deteriorate.

Check the Scanner S tatus message an d look for Error Code informa tion. The following t able explains the erro r codes and messages and describes possible causes.

www.bbhscanners.com 104 of 142 Scanning speed i s too slow using the USB connection. The scanner is connected with a USB 1.1 interface. V erify the type of USB interface. Connect with a USB 2.0 interface. The ADF door does not open when the ADF door release is pushed.
