1 Introduction This Installatio n Guide explains how to install and configure A daptec A H A TM -154 0CP/1542 CP Plug and Play ISA -to-SCSI h igh-performanc e bus master host adapters. A H A-1540CP/1542CP host adapter s are fully Plu g and Play compliant .
2 Host Adapt er Layout This diagram shows the major AHA-1540CP/ 1542C P com ponents . The followin g table describes each co mpon ent: 1 AHA-1542CP only.
3 Default Sett ings The AH A-1540CP/1542CP oper ates c orrec tly w ith the factor y def ault setti ngs in most PCs. Plug and Play may overr ide so m e sett ings w hen it assigns sys- tem resour ces . The default s ettings are list ed in t he follow ing table.
4 Ins talling the Ho st Ada pter Follo w these st eps to ins ert the host adapter in a slot: WARNING: T urn OFF and d i s c onnec t the power t o your PC and attached devic es. See your PC’s d oc umen tatio n for instructio ns. 1 Remo ve the PC chas si s c over t o expo se the ex pan- sion slots and expansio n slot c overs .
5 6 Attac h t he host adapt er bracket t o t he PC chas si s with the expansion slot cover screw . Note: Do n ot replace the PC ch assis cov er o r recon nect t he po wer yet.
6 3 Plug the last connec tor on the ribbon cable into the co nnect o r of t he clo sest int ernal SCSI device. Maintain pi n-1 orient ation . 4 Plug the midd le con nect or o n the SCSI cable into the co nnect or o f the se c ond in ternal SC SI device, if there is one.
7 SCAM c annot ch ange or read the SC SI IDs of some older SCSI dev ices. If you have any such devic es and SCAM is enabled on th e host adapter , your PC may hang if SCAM tries to assign SC SI IDs that are already in use.
8 Reassem bling a nd Starting th e PC Follo w th ese steps to reass em ble and power the PC: 1 Check SCSI cable conn ect io ns. They may have been loo sened if yo u had t o change s witch se t - tings o n the SCSI devic e (s). 2 Rep lace the PC chas sis cover , follow ing th e instr uct io ns in your PC’ s docum entat io n.
