1 W ith the Adapt ec AFW -4300 Host A dapt er (or AFW -4300), you can connect Digital Video (D V ) cam c orders or other devices w ith a 1394 (also kn o w n as FireWir e® or i.LINK ) dig ital interface to an y PC compatible or P ower Ma cintosh ® comput er w ith PCI expansion sl ots.
2 Discharg e any static electr icit y build-up b efore handling t he AFW -4300 by t ouching a g rounded metal object (such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your c omputer). Af ter y ou turn OFF your c omputer a nd unplug the pow er c ord, rem ove th e cover f rom th e com pu ter .
3 In sert the AFW -4300 into the PCI e xpansion slot. Pr ess do wn firmly until the card clicks into place; then replac e the slot cov er screw . W hen installed properl y , the car d should appear level with the expans ion slot, as show n below . Once the AFW - 4300 is installed in your syst em co mplet e the fol low ing ste ps.
4 Go in the W indows Device Manager and check to see if the adapter is instal led co r rectly under the IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller sec tion. M aci ntos h I nsta llation Ins er t th e Ins ta l la ti on CD i nto yo ur Mac in tos h CD -RO M dr i ve. Double-click on the Start Installation Her e fil e on y our Installation CD .
5 F ollo w these st eps to a ttach a Digital V ideo Camera t o y our AFW -4300. Us i n g a s t a n d a r d 6 - t o - 4 - p i n 1 3 9 4 c a b l e , p l u g t h e l a r g e r c o n n e c t o r (6-pin) of the cable into the exte rnal 1394 por t on AFW -4300.
6 Y ou can connect up to 62 1394 devices t o the AFW -4300 in almost a n y configura tion using either 6-to-6-pin or 6-to-4-p in 1394 cables. If y o u hav e any pr oblems while installin g the AFW -43.
7 • F or the P o wer Macint osh system, v erified that the card is seen by the A pple Sys tem P rofiler ? T o verify that the card is seen by the Apple S ystem P rofiler , follow these steps: 1. Pull do w n from the A pple M enu to Apple S yst em Pr ofiler .
