4 4. Keep b y standers , helpers, pets, and children at least 50 feet from the m achine while it is i n operation. Stop machin e if an y o ne enters the area. 5. Be careful when cul t ivating in hard ground. The tines may catc h in t he ground and prop el the cultivator forward.
5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR CULTIVATOR IMPORT ANT: This unit is shipped without gas oline or oil in the engine. Be certain to service engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in the separat e engine manual before operating your m ower. NOTE: Refe rence to right or left hand side of the cultivator is observed from the ope rating position.
6 On/Off Switch The On/Off sw itc h is located on the up per handle. The switch must be in the On (I) to start engine and Of f (O) to stop engine. Handle Conne ctors The handle con nectors are on each side bet ween lower and upper handle. The y are used to lock the upper handle in a set po s ition.
7 • Remove t he oil p lug/dipst ick fro m the cra nkcase and pour the e nt ire bottle of oil into the oil fill hole. See F igure 3. • Wipe up any oil that may have spilled and reinstall the oil fill plug/dipstick. Fi gur e 3 Gas Fill-Up Old fuel is the primary reason fo r the uni t not running properly.
8 • With one hand gras ping the starter handle, the other hand sho uld grasp the front handle on the cultivator for a brace. • Pull the starter rope briskly 3 to 5 times or until engine st arts.
9 • Push t he On/Off switch to O ff (O) position to stop engine and tines and disconnect spa r k plu g t o avoid ac c ident al starting. • It may be necess ary to lay the cultivator back in a horizonta l position on a flat level surf a c e with the upper handle touc hing the ground.
10 • Refill the crankcase with 3.4 fl.oz. (100 ml.) of SAE 30 SF , SG, or SH oi l. • Replace the oil fill plug/dips t ick. Air Filter Maintenance • Open the air filter cover on side of engin e by push ing the tab on the left side in and swinging the air filter cover out and off.
11 • Wipe equip ment with a oiled rag to prevent rust. • Never store the unit with fuel in the tank where fumes may reach an open flame or spark. Engine If the unit w ill be stored for longer t h an 60 days: • Drain all gas oli ne f rom the gas tan k into a container and dispos e in accordance with federal, state, and local regulation s .
