3 English INTRODUCTION 1 ST ANDBY/ON T urns this unit on. Press this button again to set the unit to the standby mode (page 14). 2 Opens and closes the disc tray . Pressing during standby mode turns on the D VD receiver and sets the input source to D VD/CD.

Here, the connecti on example uses the Y AMAHA NX-E700 (consisting of two speak ers) and its supplied cables. F or in formation on your speak ers, refer to the owner’ s manual for the speakers.
CONNECTING SPEAKERS 8 1 Remove appro xim ately 10 mm (3/8 in) of insulation from the end of each speaker cable and twist the exposed wires of the cable together to pr event short circuits. 2 Press and hold the lever . 3 Insert one bare wire . By rele asing the lever , the lever is replaced.

CONNECTING ANTENNAS 10 T o enjoy radio on the D VD receiver , you need to connect AM and FM antennas to the D VD recei ver . This product includes an AM loop antenna and ind oor FM antenna. If there is a problem of weak radio wa ve reception in your area or you want to improv e radio rece ption, we recommend that you use optional outdoor antennas .
CONNECTING EXTERNAL COMPONENTS 11 English PREP ARA TION Y ou can connect external components such as a CD recorder or MD recorder to the following jacks on the D VD receiv er . This section provides an ex ample of other equipment connections. For inform ation on your equ ipments, refer to the manuals for them.
CONNECTING EXTERNAL COMPONENTS 12 ■ About the A UX jacks • The signal input from the A UX IN jack is not output from the A UX OUT jack. • The D V D recei ver’ s digital and analog signal circuits are independent of each othe r . Analog input signals are output only from analog output jacks.
13 English PREP ARA TION ■ T o replace the b atteries Change all of the batteries if th e operation range of the remote controls decreases. • Do not use an old battery together with ne w one. • Do not use diff erent types of batteries ( for exam ple, alkaline and manganese) together .
TURNING THE POWER TO ON/STANDBY 14 Press ST ANDBY/ON once to tur n on the D VD receiver . Press ST ANDBY/ON again to set the DVD receiver to the standby mode. y Y ou can set the DVD receiv er to the eco standby mode by pressing DISPLA Y on the front pa nel during standb y mode.

ADJUSTING THE CLOCK 16 1 Press TIMER on the fr ont panel to select “TIME” and then press MUL TI JOG. 2 Rotate MUL TI JOG to adjust the hour and then press MUL TI JOG. 3 Rotate MUL TI JOG to ad just the minute and then press MUL TI JOG. 4 Press MUL TI JOG again to set the time.
SETTING THE SLEEP TIMER 17 English BAS I C OPERA TION If you set the sleep timer , the D VD re cei ver automatically turns to the St andby mode after the specif ied time.
CHANGING THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE DISPLAY 18 Y ou can change the brightness of the DVD recei v er display . Press DIMMER. Each time you press DIMMER, the brightness of the display switches between Dimmer on and Dimmer of f. ■ T o cancel the dimmer mo de Press DIMMER again.

USEFUL PLAYBACK OPERATIONS 24 Y ou can shuffle tracks or chapters. • Random Play may not work dep ending on D VD disc types. • If you press a during rando m playback, the ne xt track or chapter will be randomly select ed and played. If you press b , the currently played track or cha pter will be played from the beginning.
USEFUL PLAYBACK OPERATIONS 25 English BAS I C OPERA TION Y ou can repeat single chapter (t rack), single title, or entire disc. Also, you can set two point s (start and end points) to repeat the specified section of a title (track) with A-B Repeat (page 26).

USEFUL PLAYBACK OPERATIONS 27 English BAS I C OPERA TION Many D VDs and video CDs in clude original navig ational menus called “D VD menus” a nd “video CD Playba ck Control menus”. These menus provide a con venient way to operate the disc. Follo w the procedure below to use a D VD menu or video CD Pla yback Control with the D VD receiv er .
SELECTING AUDIO, SUBTITLE AND ANGLE 28 Y ou can select audio and subtitle lan guages for D VD playback. Y ou can also se lect a vie wing angle for D VD playback.
ZOOMING IMAG ES 29 English BAS I C OPERA TION Y ou can zoom in a specified part of pi cture during D VD or video CD playback. 1 While playing a disc or pausing, press ZOOM. The current zoom setting appears on the TV screen. 2 Press ZOOM repeatedly to select the zooming scale.
USING GUI 30 Y ou can view v arious information of the currently played di sc on the TV scree n and specify an elapsed time where you want to start play back.
ENJOYING HIGH-QUALITY VIDE O (NTSC/PROGRESSIVE SCAN) 31 English BAS I C OPERA TION Progressi ve Scan is video that represent a frame with one pass of sequential scan lines wh ereas interlace outpu t video, which is usually adopted for most TVs, represents a frame with two passes.
ENJOYING MULTIMEDIA FILES O N DISCS 32 This D VD recei ver can play MP3, WMA, Di vX ® and JPEG f iles on a personally reco rded CD-R/R W disc or commercial CD. 1 Load a disc in the disc tray . The disc menu appears on the TV screen. The disc reading time may exceed 30 seconds due to the complexity of the dire ctory/f ile configur ation.

F ollow the procedure belo w to tune your fa vori te radio stations. About the displa y 1 ST indicator Lights up when recei ving a strong FM radio signal.
34 TUNING RADIO STATIONS If you preset your fa vorite radio stations with Auto Preset (page 36) or Manual Preset (page 36) on the DVD receiv er , you can tune the ra dio stations simply by selecting the preset number . Use the number b uttons or press PRESET u / d repeatedly to select the preset number of the radio station you wa nt to listen to.

On ce you select a program type, the D VD receiv er autom atically search es for FM Radio Data System stations cu rrently broadcasting th e corresponding programs.
PRESETTING RADIO STATIONS 36 Y ou c an preset your fav orite radio stati ons to tune the sta tio ns simply by selecting the pres et number . The D VD receiv er can store up to 20 AM stations and 30 FM stations in its memory . Follo w the procedure belo w to preset radio stations automatically .

ADJUSTING SOUNDS 40 Y ou can adjust following sound settings: B ASS, TREB LE, L/R B ALANCE, EQ MODE , and the DIRECT mode. These settings ha ve no ef fect on the reco rded sound during recording. 1 Press SOUND repeatedly to select the setting yo u want to adjust.
