8 En FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW 1 LIGHT Lights up the remote control b uttons. 2 DIMMER Selects from three dif ferent le vels of brightness for the front panel display: medium, lo w and auto. For aut o setting, brightness is aut omatically set to lo w only during playback.

CONNECTIONS 10 En Be sure to turn off this unit and unplug the po wer supply cable, before you make or change connections. • Depending on the component you want to connect, there are various ways to make connections. Possible connections are described below.
11 En CONNECTIONS English ■ Digital connections If you want to use the Dolby Digital, DTS or MPEG function on your A V receiv er , connect HDMI <A> or DIGIT AL (CO AXIAL) <B> or DIGIT AL.
12 En CONNECTIONS ■ HDMI jack <A> HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) pro vides high quality digital audi o and video on a single connection. Connect HDMI jack of this unit to the HDMI input jack of your A V receiv er , and then to that of your TV using a commerciall y av ailable HDMI cable.
13 En GETTING STARTED English 1 Press the part and slide the battery compartment cov er of f. 2 Insert the two supplied batteries (AAA, R03, UM-4), following the indications (+/–) on the inside of the compartment. 3 Slide the cov er back un til it snaps into place.
14 En GETTING STARTE D This unit is comp atible with bo th NTSC and P AL video formats. Select the color sy stem that matches your TV . • Before changing the current T V Standard setting, ensure that your TV supports the selected TV type system.
15 En GETTING STARTED English Y ou can select your o wn prefer red language settings. This unit will automatica lly switch to your preferred language for you whene ver you load a disc. If the language selected is not av ailable on the disc, th e default language of the disc will be used instead.
DISC OPERATION 16 En • Unless otherwise specified, all operations described here are carried out using the su pplied remote control. • If the inhibition ic on ( or “Prohibit” ) appears on the TV screen when you press a button, the function for that button is not av ailable on the current disc or at the current time.
17 En DISC OPERATION English Searc hing bac kward/f orwar d 1 Press SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) . • For slo w search, press P A USE ( 8 ) to pause playback before pressing SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) . 2 While searching, press SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) repeatedly to select the desire d speed.
18 En DISC OPERATION Y ou ca n customi ze the pl ayback o rder for tracks stored in the disc. This unit supports a maximum of 20 programmed tracks. 1 Press ST OP ( 7 ) to stop playback if necessary . 2 Press PR OG . ➜ The program setup menu appears on the TV screen.
19 En DISC OPERATION English Using the Video CD playbac k control (PBC) menu (VCD/SVCD) 1 Press MENU to turn on the PBC function. ➜ The disc menu appears on the TV screen. • Depending on the disc, the disc menu may appear once you load the disc. 2 Use SKIP ( l 22 / 33 l ) or the nu meric b uttons (0-9) to select a playback option.

21 En DISC OPERATION English If the disc contains sequences reco rded from dif ferent camera angles, you can view th e picture from a number of dif ferent angles. V iewing angles available for each disc may v ary . Ref er to the operating instructions in th e D VD menu or on its jacket.
22 En DISC OPERATION Y ou can select a track in a specific grou p for D VD-Audio discs and a track/ fi le in a folder for data disc. Selecting a group (D VD-Audio) 1 Press GR OUP . ➜ A group icon appears on the TV screen. 2 Use / or the numeric b uttons (0-9) to select a group n umber .
23 En DISC OPERATION English 1 Press ST OP ( 7 ) to stop playback. 2 Press MUL TI / 2CH . ➜ MUL TI indicator lights up when the multi-channel area is sele cted. Y ou can play MP3, WMA, Di vX and JPEG f iles on a personally recorded CD-R/R W disc or commercial CD.

27 En SETUP MENU English Setting the screen sa ver Y ou can turn on or off the screen sa ver . • Select [Screen Sa v er] in [GENERAL] menu. On Select this to turn on the scre en sa ver when disc playback is stopped for more than 15 minutes. Off Select this to disable the scree n sav er function.
28 En SETUP MENU Setting the analog output Set the analog output to match the play back capability of this unit. • Select [Analog Output] in [A UDIO] menu. Stereo Select this to change channel output to stereo, which only deliv ers sound from the tw o front speak ers.
29 En SETUP MENU English Setting spea ker sizes Y ou can set the sizes for individual speak ers. • Select [Size] in [SPEAKER] menu. Front L/R Set the sizes for front L/R speak ers. Large Select this if the connected speakers are large. Small Select this if the connected speakers are small.
