3 INTRO DUCTION The YAMAHA CinemaStation “DVR-S150” is a slimline DVD receiver equipped with a digital amplifier. This product provides you with the best sound possible, allowing yo u to enjoy not just DVDs and CDs, but various other AV sources as well.

CONNECTING SPEAKERS 9 PREP ARA TION Follo w the procedure belo w to connect speakers to the Ci nemaStation. Here, the connec tio n example uses the Y AMAHA NX-P150 (consisting of four satellite speakers, a center speaker and a s ubwoofer) and its supplied cables.
Connecting Speakers 10 1 Insert the cable plug of the speaker cable into the speaker jack of th e same colo r until you hear it clic k into place . • FRONT R (Red), CENTER (Green), FRONT L (White): Insert the cable plug fa cing the tub upwards. • SURROUND R (Gray), SURR OUND L (Blue): Insert the cable plug facing the tub downw ards.
Connecting Speakers 11 PREP ARA TION When using speakers or cabl es other than those of the Y AMAHA NX-P150 (consisting of fou r satellite speakers, a center speaker and a subwoof er) and its supplied cables, be careful of the following.
CONNECTING A TV 12 Follo w the procedure belo w to connect your TV to CinemaSt ation using the supplied vide o pin cable. If you want to output sound from the speakers connected to CinemaStation, prepare a commercially a v ailable a udio pin cable to connect them.
CONNECTING ANTENNAS 13 PREP ARA TION T o enjoy radio on the Cinema Station, you need to connect AM and FM antennas to the CinemaStation. This product includes an AM loop antenna and indoor FM antenna.
CONNECTING EXTERNAL AV COMPONENTS 14 If you connect external A V equipment such as a VCR, video camera, or g ame c onsole to the following A V jacks on the CinemaStation, you can enjoy those A V sources with the CinemaStation. Also, you can record A V sources played on the CinemaStation using the recordi ng equipment.
Connecting External AV Compon ents 15 PREP ARA TION If you connect a VCR to the CinemaStation using commercially a vailable audi o/video cables, you can enjoy videos with the CinemaStat ion and record A V sources played on the CinemaStation on the VCR.
Connecting External AV Components 16 If you connect a game console to th e Cinema Station using a commercially av ai lable a udio/video cable (for analog connections) or a video cable and optical cabl e (for digital connections), you can enjoy ga mes or videos with the CinemaStation.
Connecting External AV Compon ents 17 PREP ARA TION If you connect a CD recorder or MD recorder to the CinemaStation using commer cially a v ailable optical cables, you can record audio sources played on the CinemaStation. Also, you can enjoy audio sources played on the rec order with the Ci nemaStation.
INSTALLING BATTERIES IN THE REMOTE CONTROL 18 ■ T o replace the batteries If the batteries grow old, the effectiv e operation distance of the remote control decreas es considerably . If this happens, replace the batteries with two ne w ones as soon as possible.
Turning the Power to On/Standby 19 B ASIC OPERA TION Press ST ANDBY/ON ( ) on ce to turn on the CinemaStation. Press ST AN DBY/ON ( ) once more to place the CinemaStation in standby mode.
Adjusting the Volume Leve l 20 Press V OLUME + to increase the v olume le vel and V OLUME – to decrease. Press MUTE to mute the sound. T o restore audio output to the previous v olume le vel, press MUTE again or press V OLUME +/–.
Auto Speaker Setup (YPAO) 21 B ASIC OPERA TION W ith the Y AMAHA Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YP A O) feature, you can av oid troublesome speaker setup and achiev e highly accurate sound adjustments. The supplied optim izer microphone collec ts and analyzes the sound that the speakers produce in your actual listen ing en vironment.
Auto Speaker Setup (YPAO) 22 4 Press ST ANDBY/ON to turn on the CinemaStat ion. 5 Press AMP, then press YP A O to start the setup pr ocedure. T est tones (the v olume is adjustable) are output from each speak er , and the display changes as follo ws.
Auto Speaker Setup (YPAO) 23 B ASIC OPERA TION ■ T o tu rn the YP A O mode on/off Y ou can switch between speaker settings configured by YP A O and manual setup by turning on/of f the YP A O mode. 1 Press AMP. 2 Press ON/OFF to di splay the currently selected mode, then press ON/OFF again to select “YP A O ON” or “YP A O OFF”.

Setting the Sleep Timer 28 If you set the Sleep T imer , the CinemaSt ation automatically turns to the Sta ndby mode after the specif ied time. Press SLEEP to select the time setting. Each time you press the SLEEP but ton, the time setting changes as follo ws: The “SLEEP” indicator lights up in the CinemaStation display .

Since so me CinemaStation disc ope rations are limited to specific disc types, the supported disc types are indicated usi ng the icons shown belo w . Each icon means that the operation is limited to the co rresponding disc type.
Basic Playback Operations 33 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Follo w the procedures belo w to carry out basic disc playback opera tions. The CinemaStation also provides v arious useful functions for disc playback. Fo r details, refer to “Useful Playback Operations” (page 34).

Useful Playback Operati ons 37 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Y ou can repeat single chapter (t rack), single title , or entire disc. Also, you can set two point s (start and end points) to repeat the specified section of a title (track) with A-B Repeat (page 38).

Useful Playback Operati ons 39 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Many D VDs and video CDs in clude original na vigational menus called “D VD menus” a nd “video CD Playba ck Control menus”. These menus provide a con venient way to operate the disc.
Selecting Audio and Subtitle Languages 40 Y ou can select audio an d subtitle la nguages for D VD playback. Also, you can set default languages for D VD playback with the On-Screen Menu. F or details on setting def ault langua ges, refer to “On-Screen Menu guide” (page 30).
Selecting a Viewing Angle 41 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Y ou can select a viewing angle for D VD playback. This selection is av ailable only with mul ti-angle compatible discs. Also, viewing angl es a v ailable for each disc may vary . For information on your disc, r efer to the operating instructions in the D VD menu or on its jacket.
Zooming Images 42 Y ou can zoom in a specif ied part of picture during D VD playback. The Zoom feature is a v ailable only with the On-Screen menu (page 29). 1 Press D VD/CD, then press ON SCREEN to display the On-Screen Menu on your TV . 2 Press or to select “T oolbar”, then press .
Restricting Playback (Parenta l Control) 43 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Y ou can set playback restrictions for ce rtain discs using Parental Control. Only users who kno w the passw ord can access the locked disc s. Y ou can restrict playback according to a predetermin ed le vel (P arental Control le vel).
Restricting Playback (Parenta l Control) 44 Y ou can use this function to lock all video discs to restrict playback. Only those disc s you select to unlock in “Playing lock ed discs” are a vailable for ac cess. 1 Carry out steps 1 to 5 in the “Se tting the Parental Contr ol level ” procedure (pa ge 43).

Enjoying High-Quality Vide o (NTSC/Progressive Scan) 46 Progressiv e Scan is video that represen t a frame with one pass of sequential scan lines whereas i nte rlace output video, which is usually adopted for mo st TVs, represents a frame with two passes.
Enjoyi ng JPEG Images 47 ENJO YING MO VIE AND MUSIC DISCS Y ou can view JPEG p ictures in a com mercial JPEG C D or personally recorded on a CD-R or CD-R W disc on the TV screen. 1 Load a disc in the disc tra y . Playback starts autom atica lly and thumbnails appear on the TV screen.
Tuning Radio Stations 48 The CinemaStation provides se veral methods for tuning AM/F M radio stations, such as Auto T uning (FM only), Manual T uning (AM/FM) and Preset T uning (AM/ FM). Follow th e procedure belo w to tune your f av orite radio stations.
49 Tuning Radio Stations ENJO YING RADIO If you preset your fa vorite radi o stations with Auto Preset (page 51) or Manual Preset (page 52) on the CinemaStation, you can tune th e radio stations simply b y selecting the preset group and number . 1 Press A/B/C/D/E to select the preset group of the radio station you want to listen to.
50 Tuning Radio Stations ■ T o select stations b y pr ogram typ e (genre) Y ou can tune FM RDS stati ons by selecting a program type (genre). Once you select a program type, the CinemaStation autom atically searches fo r FM RDS stations currently broa dcasting the corresponding programs.
51 ENJO YING RADIO Y ou can preset your f av orite radio stati ons automatically (FM stations on ly) or manually to tune the station s simply by selecting the preset group and num ber . The CinemaStat ion can store up to 40 stations (5 groups x 8 stations) in its memory .
52 Presetting Radio Stations If you want to preset AM st ations or FM radio w av e reception is weak in your area, follo w the procedure belo w to preset radio stations manually . 1 T une the radio station y ou want to p reset. For details, refer to “T uning Radio Stations” (page 48).

54 Playing Back External Sources If you connect the VIDEO IN L/R (A UDIO/VIDEO) jacks on the CinemaStation to the audio/video output L/R jacks on your game console usi ng an audio/video cable (page 16), you can enjoy game sounds with the CinemaStation.
55 ENJO YING EXTERNAL A V SOURCES If you connect an exter nal recorder to the CinemaStation, you can record A V sources play ed back on the CinemaStation or external A V equipment. For detail s on the connection methods, refer to “Conne cting External A V Components” (pages 14 to 17).
56 Recording AV Sources With External AV Components If you use analog connections to co nnect a VCR and video component to the CinemaStation (pages 15 to 16), you can copy video component sources to a video cassette on the VCR.
